Established by Ugo Guandalini in Modena in 1932, the publishing house has stood for an original and innovative publishing line, reflected in a catalogue offering great European and American poetry, crucial twentieth-century writers and exponents of the brightest currents of modern thought.Its characteristics as a literary publisher attentive to the most significant values and writers were also preserved in the period following the founder’s death.From the Latin American fiction boom to the exceptional wave of Irish writing to the new American novel to the voices of more distant shores such as Iceland, to new English fiction and its Chemical Generation, Guanda offers the highest quality international catalogue, full of leading writers.

Reason why

Main promise

We decided to analize Guanda’s website in order to make a coherent choose with our studies. By doing this we would like to use our little knowledge of the world of the publishing industry in order to have the best result as possible. We hope this will bring us a personal growth on both sides: interface systems usability design and the universe of printed books.

Our aim is to enhance Guanda’s website through the analysis and the comparison with other website, that we believe to have better features and a better usability. Through this kind of analysis we will try to display a better graphic interface as well as a prototype of a mobile app.

Founded in 1973, Corraini mainly publishes works by Bruno

Munari and different kind of illustration books, filled with lots

of artworks and drawings.

The website shows us a good example of a nice, simple-

usable interface and also of an easy well-working internal

e-commerce.

The website offers a complete e-commerce catalogue and

furthermore the list of the authors who worked with Corraini,

an updated calendar of events and exhibitions in the libraries

(in Mantova, Milan, Bologna and Turin), and specified

sections dedicated to the most interesting editorial projects

of the moment.

Founded in 1962, its success is especially linked to the

courage and ability to bring to the public philosophical works

of great commitment, always characterized by refined styles

and instantly recognizable.

Adelphi’s catalogue ranges from physics textbooks

to classic literature, anthropology, philosophy, poetry,

journalistic investigation and neuroscience.

This publishing house gives us the possibility to see some

books-preview and it owns a blog too.

The project of the website - made by “Frequenze” - it’s

characterized by a distinct graphic (inspired by the unique

design of the covers of the publishing house) and different

tools for searching and browsing the catalog; it is completed

by an e-commerce system dedicated to publishing.

Founded in 1933, «Giulio Einaudi Editore», better known as

“Einaudi”, is one of the most significant publishing house in

Italy, founded in Turin by Giulio Einaudi.

The idea behind this publishing house is that there must be

a blend among political but also intellectual and educational

allegiance. Its authors included Cesare Pavese, Elio Vittorini,

Italo Calvino, Leone Ginzburg and Bruno Zevi. It was

acquired by Mondadori in 1994.

This well-work website is a good example of an up-to-date

program of events and meetings forpeople who love being

updated with the latest news.

The website was designed by “dgt media” in 2009 with a

minimal black&white graphic - traditional colours of Einaudi.

TASK TIMEThe task analysis for our 4 publishing houses websites is about the count of the

number of clicks necessary in order to carry out different functions.

We decided to analyze the amount of clicks required to achieve diifferent

purposes, starting from the homepage to: the page of a book, the page of an

author, the info page about the publishing house, the final page of the payment.

* 3+6 = the first 3 click are on Guanda's website; the other 6 are on ibs.com

website (because Guanda does not have an internal e-commerce).

school. She lives in Graffignana with her family which is made up

of her mother (a teacher of a local primary school), her father (a

pastry chef) and her little ten years old brother, Felice.

Her mother, Sofia, instilled her the passion for books and

American literature. In her free time she uses to go around in

search of unusual books for her personal collection.

Actually she definds herself as a bookworm, with a particolar

addiction to poetry (like Bukowski’s poems).

passions are djiing, riding his motorbike and travelling.

Due to his job he has to travel a lot around the country and

during his trips he likes reading little handy books about

OPENING SPEED

Level of entertainment of the user during the web surfing. The customer will enjoy using the webpage if there are images, videos, colors, curious and interactive elements, a plain and minimal layout.

FUN TO USE

PARAMETERS

All the parts of the website should be recognizable and coherent with the image of the brand (the colors, the typography, the use of fonts, and so on). The user, even the one that hasn’t ever visited the website, must not feel confused nor dismayed when surfing the internal pages.

Every phase of the buying process should be clear and linear from the beginning to the end (from the start to the checkout). The user shouldn’t find problems, otherwi-se he/she won’t complete the process and won’t buy anything. There should be the possibility of checking the products in the cart and delete them.

Every product needs to have a detailed description of its main features (in the case of books this can mean the num-bers of pages, the size, the weight, but also comments of other users and re-views).

Come si può continuare a scrivere quando la morte ti ha sottratto la tua Musa? È questo l'interrogativo che, l'8 giugno 1290, tormenta Dante Alighieri, giovane poeta ancora alla ricerca di una sua voce, davanti alle spoglie di Beatrice Portinari. Da quel momento tutto cambierà: la sua vita come la sua poesia. Percorrendo le strade di Firenze, Dante rievoca le vicissitudini di un amore segnato dal destino, il primo incontro e l'ultimo sguardo, la malìa di una passione in virtù della quale ha avuto ispirazione e fama. È sgomento, il giovane poeta; e smarrito. Ma la sorte gli riserva altri strali. Bellissimo, appassionante la vita di dante romanzata in modo superbo non volevo smettere di leggerlo un secondo, peccato che è gia finito.

"Come donna innamorata" mi appare un romanzo ibrido, cioè una storia di fatti che si svolgono, ma soprattut-to - guardando a Dante, che sulle sue visioni ha costruito la Vita Nova - una narrazione evocativa, in cui Firenze medievale e Dante e gli altri personaggi sono resi attuali come se per la nostra lettura essi venissero a vivere nel nostro mondo moderno, rimanendo , però nel proprio...Vi ho trovato tanti flashback, soprattutto quelli relativi ad avvenimenti salienti quali la morte di Beatrice l'8 Giugno 1290, e il 4° anniversario di tale ricorrenza che costituirà l'incipit della Vita Nova, la vita rinnovata dal vero amore. Essi ,scaturendo l'uno dall'altro, e continuamente intersecandosi, non intralciano, però, la narra-zione, che rimane scorrevole e uniforme, allo stesso modo in cui dalla corrente alternata si sviluppa una luce perennemente chiara e continua.

Come si può continuare a scrivere quando la morte ti ha sottratto la tua Musa? È questo l'interrogativo che, l'8 giugno 1290, tormenta Dante Alighieri, giovane poeta ancora alla ricerca di una sua voce, davanti alle spoglie di Beatrice Portinari. Da quel momento tutto cambierà: la sua vita come la sua poesia. Percorrendo le strade di Firenze, Dante rievoca le vicissitudini di un amore segnato dal destino, il primo incontro e l'ultimo sguardo, la malìa di una passione in virtù della quale ha avuto ispirazione e fama. È sgomento, il giovane poeta; e smarrito. Ma la sorte gli riserva altri strali. Mentre le trame della politica fiorentina minacciano dapprima i suoi affetti - dal rapporto con la moglie Gemma all'amicizia fraterna con Guido Cavalcanti - e poi la sua stessa vita, Dante Alighieri fa i conti con le tentazioni del potere e la ferita del tradimento, con l'aspirazione alla gloria letteraria e il timore di non riuscire a comporre il suo capolavoro... È un Dante intimo, rivelato nella sua fragilità ma anche nella potenza della sua visione del mondo, quello che Marco Santagata mette in scena in un romanzo che restituisce le atmosfere, le parole, le inquietudini di un Medioevo vivido e vicino. Il sommo poeta in tutta la sua umanità: lacerato dall'amore, tormentato dall'ambizione, ardentemente contemporaneo.
