Your Itinerary

Bill Zeigler, the Chicago Zoological Society’s senior vice president of animal programs, will lead this trip.

Join us... on an incredible adventure to the heart of polar bear country. Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, is one of the few human settlements where polar bears can be observed in the wild. Each fall, hundreds of these magnificent animals migrate to Churchill as they wait for the Hudson Bay to freeze. You’ll explore the Churchill Wildlife Management Area, home to the largest concentration of polar bears in the world, and will make lifelong memories as you get up-close-and-personal with arctic wildlife.

DAY ONEArrive in Winnipeg (by your own arrangements), and enjoy a welcome dinner with your group and a Frontiers North interpretative guide. Spend the night in Winnipeg at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. (D)

DAY TWOAfter breakfast, you will take an early- morning flight from Winnipeg to Churchill. Welcome to the polar bear capital of the world! An exploratory and informative drive will bring you directly into the town of Churchill, where you will eat lunch. Then, it’s time for a dogsled adventure, which will be led by a local resident and dog sledding expert who will teach you about dog handling philosophy. After your mile-long ride, we’ll take you to the Tundra Buggy Lodge for the evening. (B, L, D)

DAY THREEToday is your first full-day Tundra Buggy adventure! After breakfast, your group will board your Tundra Buggy and head into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. As you scan the tundra for polar bears and other arctic wildlife, your interpretive guide will share information about the area’s history and geology. Return to the Tundra Buggy Lodge to hear an evening presentation, and rest up for your second day on the tundra.(B, L, D)

DAY FOUROn your second full-day Tundra Buggy adventure, you will again have the chance to view and photograph wildlife on the tundra. You will also have the chance to listen to in-field lectures from experts with Polar Bears International. At the end of the day, you will take an evening flight back to Winnipeg, where you will again stay in the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. (B, L, D)
