    Leaves of Three Let it Be!

    Western poison-oak

    thrives throughoutCalifornia. It can growboth as a dense shruband as a vine.

    The leaves are dividedinto 3 leaflets, 1-4long, with the terminalleaf on a slender stalk.The leaves havescalloped, toothed, orlobed edges generally resemblingthe leaves of a trueoak, though thepoison-oak leavestend to be moreglossy.

    Leaves are generallybright green in the

    spring, yellow-green toreddish in thesummer, and brightred in the fall. Duringlate spring looseclusters of greenish-white flowers form.During summer andfall, female plantsproduce ivory-whiteberries. Poison-oak iswinter deciduous, sothat after cold weathersets in the stems areleafless.
