Podcast Script Instructions: Please print out this script so that you can follow along with the audio version of the podcast. You may also keep it to refer back to later, as you work through the instructional unit. VO: Welcome to "Visualization and Visual Aids in Public Speaking." I'm your instructor, Dr. Valerie Terry, and I'm very excited to share this one-on-one learning time with you. I'm not there with you in person, but I designed this learning module specifically with you in mind. VO: In class, you've been learning about the Monroe Motivated Sequence and how it is used in persuasive public speaking. In this unit, we will be exploring the fourth step in the Sequence in more detail. The fourth step is the "visualization" step. VO: Let's get even more specific so you'll know what to expect as you surf through this learning unit. In fact, you can expect to learn four important lessons in this unit: First, you will learn to define the term "visual aid" in public speaking. Second, you will learn to match different types of visual aids that are used with different types of speech content. Third, you will learn what descriptive word imagery is in public speaking and then be able to explain the difference between visual aids and imagery. Fourth and finally, you'll learn to define "visualization" as it is used specifically in the MMS. At this point, you'll accomplish the ultimate goal of this learning unit: to explain the difference between visual aids in public speaking and "visualization" in the MMS. Assignment Performance Objective: Given an 5-minute videotaped persuasive public speech using the MMS on a topic familiar to you in which one visual aid is used, you will be able to correctly explain the difference between the visual aid and "visualization" used in the speech viewed.
