Creating a Simple Podcast

• Check out a voice recorder from the library.

• Prepare a script for your podcast and rehearse.

• Use the voice recorder to record your audio clip. Step-by-step directions for recording are in the bag.

Upload Your Podcast to Schoolwires

• Using the USB adaptor, plug your voice recorder into the USB port

• Open Schoolwires, sign-in and go to your Section Manger view.

• Click on New Page.

• Select Podcast as your Page Type.

Name Your Page

• Think about how you want to organize your podcasts. More than one podcast can be uploaded to a podcast page.

• Example 1: Podcasts – Science, A.M. Class

• Example 2:Podcasts – English, Period 7

• Example 3:Library Podcasts – Grade 8

Name Your Page (continued)

• Type your page title.

• SAVE!

• Find your Podcast page and select Edit.

• Select New Episode.

Fill in the title of the podcast you are about to upload and the author of the podcast.

Description – you can skip this section if you choose.

To actually upload that audio file you created, click Browse.

Locate and Select Your File

• You may have to use trial and error to locate the drive into which the voice recorder is plugged. It may be F: or it may be G:

• Click on MIC

• Click on Recordings.

• Select your file. If there are multiple files, select the last one in the list.

Once you click on your file name, it will automatically upload and appear at the bottom of the screen where it says Media File

SAVE!

• Save your file and if you are ready for your podcast to go live, click the Active box.

That’s it! You’re finished. You’ve created a simple podcast.

Adding Links to Your Podcast

Why ?

• To lead students to more information on the topic of your podcast.

How?

• Return to your podcast and select Edit.

• In the Description section, use the Insert Link button.

OPTIONAL –Edit Your Podcast

• From “All Programs” on your computer, open Audacity.

• Using the USB adaptor, plug your voice recorder in the USB port.

• In Audacity, select File-Open and locate the drive for your voice recorder, then locate your audio file.

Editing (continued)

• You can use the tools in Audacity to cut sections of your audio file.

• You can insert music clips at the beginning and end of your audio file. See Creative Commons for copyright friendly music.

• You can lay a second audio track and put music in the background.

Convert to MP3 format

Once you have finished editing your file in Audacity it is saved as an Audacity Project.

It must be converted to MP3 format using free software called Lame.

Lame should be on all computers in the building.

If working from home you can download both Lame and Audacity for free.
