no need for a tie. The vertical lines on this plaid

For low cut shirts a necklace with different siz-

With 9.1% of the nation on

unemployment, the stock market like a rollercoaster

and the national debt over 14 trillion dollars, what can be done?

-Ashley Denise Wilkins

Our government spent a trillion dollars to lower un-

employment, lower the debt, and stabilize the market,

but it did the opposite. What they did makes as much

sense as a family that’s $200,000 in debt borrowing

more to reduce their debt. If you have more money at

the end of the month you cut your spending to bring

things into balance. Not our government. They just go

borrow more.

First of all they use what’s known as baseline budget-

ing. This form of budgeting for one uses 10 year pro-

jections, which means anything passed this year can

be changed the very next year. Plus they always use

rosey income estimates which are never achieved ,

and expense numbers they always exceed.

Baseline budgeting also projects an 8-8 1/2% increase

in spending for each year going forward regardless of

the success or failure of the program. So when the

government tells you they are cutting spending, they

are lying. If through baseline budgeting they are

scheduled to spend 108 million, which is an increase

of 8 million from the previous years budget, the gov-

ernment tells you they are cutting the budget by 5 mil-

lion. They are not cutting. They are just spending 103

million instead of 108 million. This is still an increase.

Our government does not know how to stop spending.

Our country’s fiscal year ended with a 1.3 trillion dol-

lar deficit with no end in sight. The worst part is that

the most solutions given out of Washington involves

spending more money. We need to get back to the ba-

sics. K.I.S.S. is short for Keep It Simple Stupid!

These are some steps that our government can take to

get on the right track.

1. The government is bloated. Freeze spending for

one year then cap increases going forward to 1-2%

while cutting waste to make it efficient.

2. Eliminate the Head of Household filing status.

This is one of the most abused items in the tax

code.

3. Eliminate the Earned Income tax credit. This is

another item that is fraudulently during tax time.

These items should be done in the first two years and

after that we should start phasing our of all other tax

deduction and credits with the mortgage and charita-

ble deduction being the last.

As these deductions go tax rates are to come down.

Our corporate rates are at 35% ;these should be low-

ered to 10%. The personal income rate should be low-

ered to 15%, also capital gains and dividends should

be at 5%. The reason this is lower is because these

Page 16: PLUS! Magazine

Finance Welcome to OUR World

PLUS! Magazine 16 www.sharinicole.com

Earnings come from money you have already paid

taxes on. Under this plan a flat rate of 15% comes

from every ones income with only one exception; tax-

payers making below the poverty level.

As of last year 48.5% of taxpayers paid no tax. Under

this plan only about 15% pay no taxes.[ People below

the poverty level.] As this is phased in, a national

sales tax is implemented to make up any shortfall.

Some people believe this will eliminate the IRS, but it

will not. It will still have to collect taxes and enforce

law but the needs will be lowered, thus their resources

will be used to help other agencies find fraud while

lowering its personal levels to reflect the new IRS.

Lets hope someone in Washington is listening.

10 easy Ways to exercise

1. Sweep. Instead of vaccuming your floors, pull out the broom. Your arms will thank us!

2. Take pumpkin for a walk. Grab a leash and take your pooch for a walk.

She’ll burn a lot of that tear up your shoes energy and you will feel great too!

3. Rake Leaves. Fall is here and so are the leaves. Instead of paying your neighbor’s child to

rake them for you, do it yourself. You’ll even save some cash!

4. Rearrange your furniture. Move the sofa in front of the TV. or move

the piano in another room. This may no be feasible but get your move on anyhow!

5. Clean out your closet/cabinets. This may sound like an easy

job but once you get into it you will quickly find out otherwise.

6. Dust your home. If you have pets you know that hair and dirt are not our furniture’s

friend. Take out an old rag and some furniture polish and get to work!

7. Lose pumpkin and walk with friends. Get some much needed

girl time or male bonding time with this one!

8. If you have stairs, bingo! Enough said!

9. Invest in an xbox360 or Wii. After two rounds of Michael Jackson The

Experience you’ll understand!

10. Sex. This means that you have to actively participate. No special treatment tonight. (or in the

morning if that’s what you do)

Time to cuddle up

6 ideas to keep you warm this fall

Truth or Dare

Take yourself back into time and let your inhibitions

fall by the wayside while playing this game. Its sure to

get things a little steamy with that special someone!

Pillow Fight

If you realize you and your partner have watched all

of the Martin marathons on T.V., turn it off and let

your inner child out. Especially if they’ve eaten the

last of the treats.

Romantic Getaway

Ok so you may not be able to take you lover in the

islands but who says you can’t bring the islands to

them. Whether it’s creating an authentic dinner for

with your loved one to watch a movie. No matter what

film genre you choose this will always make the time

you spend with that someone wonderful.

Mediated Communication

Interview by

Sheneka Smith

PLUS! Magazine 24 www.sharinicole.com

I read one of the most craziest statuses on Facebook

ever! This girl was trying to give this guy at a club her

number and he asked if she was on Facebook and that

he’d contact her on there. Really? This type of com-

munication is not meant for this purpose. Mediated

communication is basically any form that isn’t face to

face and done through social sites or emails. We asked

a young male (Damion Crawford) what his take on

this was and this is what he had to say.

Sheneka: Do you prefer to talk to your loved one

through text or face to face?

Damion: Face to face. I really don’t like texting at all.

Sheneka: What does it typically mean when a guy

communicates through forms other than talking?

Damion: Typically guys that won’t talk to a female

are usually doing something that he shouldn't be doing

or something that he doesn’t want you to know about.

Sheneka: I find that interesting because most guys

claim their busy and that they’re unable to communi-

cate vocally.

Damion: It’s true that we sometimes are busy. We

may be spending time with our kids, at work, in traf-

fic, etc., but we’re not doing that all day. At some

point we have time to talk. It’s just a matter of is the

girl worth talking to or is this NBA 2K12 more im-

portant.

Sheneka: What advice would you give any woman

dealing with this?

Damion: I would say it’s not a big deal. All you have

to do is move on because really, women have what

most men want. She will eventually find someone that

will give her the attention she needs and deserves.

People that don’t want to vocalize with their partner

are 9 times out of 10 are not looking for anything seri-

ous.

Sheneka: I feel that it’s a level of disrespect to con-

stantly ignore my calls then text immediately text me

right after.

Damion: That’s exactly what it is and if I can’t talk to

you, I don’t want to be with you.

Diseased Mind

Page 31: PLUS! Magazine

I have never been, well, “skinny”. I have always had to

watch what I eat and for the longest time I never felt that I

measured up to society’s idea of perfection: somewhere

around a size 2 with washboard abs (at least that’s what I

imagined). I remember when it all started; I was about 8 or

9 years old at Girl Scout camp. A group of my friends were

all standing around and talking in a circle. One girl started

talking about her weight and then before I knew it everyone

was going around the circle taking turns saying their

weight. Yes, weight is even a topic of conversation at 9,

who knew? I didn’t think much of this at the time. Every-

one else before me had said about 50-60 pounds, some

even less than that. When I spit out “101 pounds” proudly

I didn’t think about what a difference that was. The circle

of girls started snickering. It hadn’t really occurred to me

that I was different than them until that moment. I did all of

the same things the other girls did so why was my weight

such a big deal?

After this conversation my mind was diseased. I started

noticing little things that had never occurred to me before.

Many of the other girls shared clothes but not with me, ex-

cept for those mild occasions when one of my friends

would say “Here you can wear this, it is too big for me.”

Before I never would have taken this as an insult, now it

was all I could thing about. I also noticed my swim suit

didn’t fit like my friends. There swim suits were small and

fit snuggly, mine fit tightly and I had bulges everywhere. I

started to become self conscious. I started to eat very little

if I was in front of other people and then gorge when I was

alone. It suddenly felt like everyone was looking at me and

thinking about how big I was. I could hear their thoughts.

“Why is she eating dessert? She obviously doesn’t need it.”

“101 pounds? That is twice my weight!”

Realistically, I gave far too much credit to the attention

span of a 9 year old girl. Were my friends really thinking

those thoughts? No, most likely not. Was I really that dif-

ferent than them? No. People are people and we come in all

different sizes. It took me years to figure out this small

break through. I wasn’t really different; I had made that

distinction on my own. No one saw me as some alien who

didn’t fit in because she was bigger than everyone else. I

was just a person, a girl trapped with her own thoughts and

judgments who alienated herself. Society does have a way

of “diseasing your mind” as I did to myself at such an early

age but I have come to realize size doesn’t really matter. If

you try your best to live a healthy life and exercise regular-

ly chances are you still won’t be a size 2 and you know

what? That’s okay! You can be beautiful at a size 47! It is

all about your mind set and how you look at life. I choose

to be the “bigger” person everyday and my mind is free of

disease.

10 Things we’re tired of

1.RAIN BOOTS AND NO RAIN!

That’s just a fashion statement gone wrong!

2.KIDS BOP CDS!

Just because it’s has kids singing over the song doesn’t make it kid appropriate. If we made a PLUS! Kids cd

but have them singing TLC’s Red Light Special would you all still buy it? Don’t answer that!

3.CELEBRITIES SAYING THEY WANT TO BE NORMAL!

Attention to anyone of a celebrated status! If you want to trade lives (this includes bank accounts) you can

contact me at [email protected]! Get real. If you wanted to be normal you’d fall off the grid like

the guy that played Eddie Winslow. LOL!

4.NBA PLAYERS WANTING A 50/50 SPLIT WITH OWN-

ERS!

Really? When have you EVER seen a fry cook get paid the same as the shift manager? Essentially you’re

playing a game guys. There are plenty of guys that would love to take your spot. Maybe if you didn’t waste

so much of your MILLIONS you wouldn’t want more. Ouch!

5.OBAMA SAYING “YES WE CAN!” WHEN APPARENTLY

WE CAN’T!

The new motto should be “ YES WE CAN VOTE YOU OUT OF OFFICE”! We realize that Congress actu-

ally runs the country but maybe he should let Michelle sit in on a couple meetings. We bet the U.S. would

have a surplus income in 3 years with gardens in every backyard!

Page 33: PLUS! Magazine

10 Things we’re tired of

6. FADED WRANGLERS WITH SHINY CHURCH SHOES!

The only way this is passable is if you have been the pastor of the same church for the last 20 years!

7. RICK ROSS THINKING HE’S EVERYBODY!

He probably hopes that someday some lonely rejected child will want to be him. Give it up already! Uhh! ( in

OUR Rick Ross voice)

8. ANGELINA JOLIE TRYING TO BE OCTOMOM!

You really should be jocking Kate + 8, that’s where the real franchise is!

9. TIGHTS AND WAIST LENGTH SHIRTS!

Tights should never be substituted for leggings or pants. Trust me, no one wants to see your Wednesday pant-

ies when clearly its Sunday.

10. PEOPLE GOING NATURAL!

Being natural is a way of life, so stop claiming to be natural only because you have had the same Keyshia

Cole quick weave for three months. People it’s more than a notion to go natural. So stop playing and dip your

head in some super lye relaxer. LOL!
