Unemployed In CitiesAs we discussed yesterday, it was not just farmers and people working in the agricultural field who were affected by the Great Depression. Many factories shut down as well, leaving people in cities without jobs.

Unemployed in CitiesThe unemployed in cities usually did not have transportation to leave the city and find work elsewhere. Instead of becoming migrant workers, they stayed in the city, taking whatever jobs they could find.

Bread Lines and Soup Kitchens•To help the unemployed, many charitable organizations began (there were no government-sponsored help programs)•Soup Kitchens- A place where free food is served to those who are homeless or down on their luck•Bread Lines- The lines that formed outside soup kitchens and food pantries
