Why must be “PLAtOO”? “PLATOO” this name comes from

kind of fish “mackerel” that called in Thai. The first reason we use this name for our magazine because, there are not any market in Thailand don’t have “PLATOO”. So, it can say that “PLATOO” is the one of signature in Thai market. Second, although “PLATOO” is not beautiful, not look palatable or in Thai called “Na Ngor Ckor Huk” but if you try it you will know that it is very yummy, espe-cially eat with chili that is the national identity and make Thai people who live in the differ-ent place around the world miss home every

time that they eat. And lastly, when we

divide word “PLATOO” to “PLA” and “TOO”, the sound of “PLA” like “PA” that is slang in Thai mean “GO” and “TOO” that is the brief of “Together”. Therefore, when we mix all together, we have meaning “Go Together!!!” like many lit-tle “PLATOO” persuade you to adventure and learn new

things concomitant.^^Parnravee Pornthisarn

Polite Thai manner THAI CULTURES

Culture is always respected by seniority and age shows that Thailand is neatly both physique and mind. Me-lodious speech is told that it is qualifi-cation of conversation for own benefit and happiness, which it helps speaker audiences be affectionate and popular.

Thai people who have the good dis-course have to be careful in lie that makes other people be defamed, aren’t cynical or interrupt them, try to use the proper word, and do not scream or laugh in conversation that good interlocutor should listen alone but has not to talk ,during the interlocutor is speaking .

Page 7: PLATOO TRAVEL MAGAZINE

They speak “ swasdee “ together with begging called “Wai” that the man says “swas-dee krub” and the woman says “swasdee ka” to be polite ,which the word “krub” or “ka” is the ending word when they greet each other instead of handshake. Moreover, the lady should keep one’s manners, speech, and thoughts under control. It is a tradition that the younger or elder respect, bow and beg when meeting elders or adults. For example, child impress in the word, as well as, respect in parents more than before, if they say politely with him or parents are merci-ful in child, if he says politely.

They do not slap in the other head, ex-cept for a child’s head because the head is the highest part of the body. In the other words, feet are the lowest part of the body that it’s bad manners to aim your foot at people or an object, which it’s impolite to put your feet on the desk when you are with other people, and should not pass anything over somebody else’s head too. Besides, they always take off their shoes before entering a Buddhist chapel where the main Bud-dha is enshrined. Normally, they are considerate person and do not do things that affect the other senses.

urian or “King of fruits”. It is distinctive for its large size, formidable thorn-covered husk and strong odour. If you want to talk about it until you can imagine, I will

refer writing in 1856. The British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace provides a much-quoted descrip-tion of the flavour of the durian: “The five cells are silky-white within, and are filled with a mass of firm, cream-coloured pulp, containing about three seeds each. This pulp is the edible part, and its consistence and flavour are indescribable. A rich custard highly flavoured with almonds gives the best general idea of it, but there are occasional wafts of flavour that call to mind cream-cheese, onion-sauce, sherry-wine, and other incongruous dishes. Then there is a rich glutinous smooth-ness in the pulp which nothing else possesses, but which adds to its delicacy. It is neither acid nor sweet nor juicy; yet it wants neither of these qualities, for it is in itself perfect. It produces no nausea or other bad effect, and the more you eat of it the less you feel inclined to stop. In fact, to eat Durians is a new sensation worth a voyage to the East to experience.” Do you want to taste a durian? you can find it everywhere in Thailand.

Loy Krathong

In November some may wonder what is going on in Thailand

when seeing travel magazine ads, posters at hotel of Thai girls

dressing in traditional Thai clothing with a beautiful floating object.

That's a sign indicating that Loy Krathong is on its way. In Thai

Loy means to float and Krathong means a circular floating object

with decoration of banana leaves, flowers, a candle and incense

sticks. All these are related to Loy Krathong, an event which does

not occur on the same date every year; instead it counts on the

full moon night of the twelfth lunar month. People look forward to

going out and launching Krathongs together to predict the romance

future by the direction the Krathongs float. However, this season is

also good for strengthening relationship in family.

In Thailand, people enjoy creating their own Krathong made from natural resources, such as leaves and trunks of banana adorned with flowers. Some might use bread instead of synthetic materials showing their concern for environment. Other than flowers, a candle and incense sticks, we often put some coins or betel pepper and nut in our Krathongs. And that’s why our Krathongs can’t drift any further as they are raided for little money. Nevertheless, Loy Krathong Festival remains the most romantic and favorite occasion for a num-ber of people and still best represents our gratitude.

35 exotic markets in bangkok

Page 41: PLATOO TRAVEL MAGAZINE

If you are in the North of Thailand, you can join this spec-tacular occasion at Chiang Mai where it is specifically called yee Peng -floating of lanterns into the sky. Or you can go to Tak where a line of thousand glittering lights are seen on the Ping River. When looking closer, you see that Krathongs here are made of coconut shells, threaded together to make chain and that's the story of Loy Krathong Sai. Moreover, this year you can see Loy Krathong Sai made from banana trunk in Samut Songkram too. For sure, the festival in old cities is so famous and attracts a herd of visitors. Glory and ancientness of the kingdom is utterly alive in Phao Thian Len Fai in Sukhothai. In Bangsai District, Ayutthaya, you can feel the grandeur of Loy Krathong Tam Pratip and long boat race at Bangsai Arts and Crafts Centre of H.M. queen Sirikit of Thailand.

If you think about Chicken Noodle of course you should think of Mae Sri Ruen Chicken Noodle which has been established in Pattaya for decades. The first branch of Mae Sri Ruen Chicken Noodle was founded in Center of Pattaya until today, they still preserve their own recipe, soup and chicken, for customers to try with reasonable price.

Dining!!tip&facts

Not only Chicken Noodle, they also have Thai food, such as Satay pork – toast, Seafood fried in batt served in hot pan, Papaya salad with crab, Fried rice with chili paste. Besides, they have Thai dessert. I would suggest Khanom krok (Thai traditional style sweet baked rice cake), Khanom thuay (Thai steamed pandanus cake in a cup top with coconut milk), and Khanom bueang (crispy pancakes). Mae Sri Ruen are easy to find because they have many branches in Pattaya and Bangkok. you can see the website http://www.msrpattaya.com/branch.html and http://www.msr.co.th/contact.htm
