Version: June 8, 2003; revised October 2009 Plant Checklist for Nisene Marks State Park and vicinity, Santa Cruz County, California Dean Wm. Taylor, Ph.D. INTRODUCTION This checklist is based on my nearly 20 years of residence locally in the vicinity of Nisene Marks State Park. All vascular plants I have observed growing hereabouts, without the benefit of cultivation, are enumerated (and conversely, many purely horticultural taxa are omitted). Non-native plants (denoted by an asterisk*) are so indicated. Some casually or sparingly introduced cultivars and/or taxa long persistent after cultivation are denoted by the symbol - - Plants found only on the feeble beach remnants at the creek mouth are indicated by the symbol - # - Nomenclature corresponds to the Jepson Manual (which is considerably out-of-date). REGION TREATED - The area covered by this checklist includes the entire watershed of Aptos Creek to the ocean shoreline, and all of Nisene Marks State Park. There are still sizable areas of the Park in the Soquel Creek watershed, and these portions I have not yet fully explored - therefore this checklist is likely to have enumerated much but NOT all of the local vascular flora. Specifically, the Soquel Demonstration Forest is not treated. VOUCHERS - Those records for which I have collected voucher specimen (or, for a few, for which vouchers were obtained by other botanists) are identified by the herbarium accession number at the University of California herbarium (i.e.JEPS89492 or UC1736181), or by my collection number (i.e. #11111). Locality data for the voucher specimens can be obtained from the web: WWW.UCJEPS.BERKELEY.EDU - for Consortium of California Herbaria specimens WWW.CALFLORA.ORG - for many of the backlogged collections Occasional vouchers of which I am aware at the Sharsmith Herbarium, San Jose State University (SJSU) and UCSC are similarly identified, and locality data for these can be obtained from the Consortium of California Herbaria website RARE PLANTS - Plants afforded rare status by the California Native Plant Society are highlighted in green overlay. #11111). Locality data for the voucher specimens can be obtained from the web:

WWW.UCJEPS.BERKELEY.EDU - for Consortium of California Herbaria specimens WWW.CALFLORA.ORG - for many of the backlogged collections

Occasional vouchers of which I am aware at the Sharsmith Herbarium, San Jose State University (SJSU) and UCSC are similarly identified, and locality data for these can be obtained from the Consortium of California Herbaria website RARE PLANTS - Plants afforded rare status by the California Native Plant Society are

highlighted in green overlay. Tabulation of the Flora Native Introduced Total Families 75 13 88 Genera 222 112 334 Species 348 191 539 additional ssp/var 3 0 3 TOTALS 351 191 542
