CHIEF'S CORNER | 3

I want to take this opportunity to thank Sean for the opportunity to be Director for another two years. I have truly learned a lot over the past two years and enjoyed working with the Board as we have brought many fun and enjoyable events

together. And as in years past, we have changes to our Board. This year we welcome Lori Wetsel to the Board as the Ladies of Harley Officer. She plans to continue the past traditions of LOH and add some ideas of her own. She’ll be looking to the ladies in the Chapter for ideas as well. Michael Savage has taken over as Safety Officer. As many of you saw and heard at the last Chapter meeting, he wants to emphasize safety on our rides as well as in our everyday riding. Look for him to disseminate lots of helpful information and tips. Lynn Lowrie has stepped down as Assistant Director. In his time he has revamped the Volunteer tracking, organized our pins and patches to ensure we had an adequate supply and implemented the vests for identifying the ride leaders making it easier to identify Road Captains and ride leaders. While he is no longer on the Board, he has promised to still be a member of the Chapter and we look forward to seeing him on rides.

Congratulations to VooDoo Chili for winning the DHOG Chili Cook-off. As usual, Kerry Turner put in a tremendous effort. Joining him in Abilene as the People’s Choice winner will be Don Terasaki’s Minimal Effort Chili. While it is unknown as of this writing who won in Abilene, we hope that one of them brings the Regional Chili Cook-off back to Dallas Harley- Davidson.

Our outgoing Ladies of Harley officer Darla Webster closed out her term with a great event, the annual Valentine’s Day movie at Studio Movie Grill. Fifty-five members and guests enjoyed “Kingsman: The Secret Service”.

You may have noticed on the flyer that this year we will be things a little bit differently on our 31st Annual St Paddy’s Day Run. This year it will be on a Saturday instead of Sunday and we will start at the Shop and finish at the Shrine. As always, the first 100 pre-registered receive the pin.

This month promises several new restaurants to test your palates. And it is March and the weather changes day to day, so make sure your email addresses are good and if you are not receiving the weekly blast from Ken “Papa Duck” Kennerly let him know so he can look into it. Also, I encourage you to sign up for the text notification service which we only use for last minute changes. Two other dates to keep in mind, March 8, 2015 at 2:00 am marks the beginning of Daylight Savings Time and March 20, 2015 at 5:45 CDT marks the beginning of Spring.

Financing Offer available only on New Harley-Davidson™ motorcycles financed through Eaglemark Savings Bank (ESB), a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson Credit Corp. and is subject to credit approval. Not all applicants will qualify. 2.99% APR offer is available only to high credit tier cus-tomers at ESB and only for up to a 60 month term. The APR may vary based on the applicant’s past credit performance and the term of the loan. For example, a 2015 Dyna® Wide Glide® motorcycle Vivid Black with an MSRP of $15,799, no down payment and amount financed of $15,799, 60 month repayment term, and 2.99% APR result in monthly payments of $283.82. In this example, customer is responsible for applica-ble taxes, title, licensing fees and any other fees or charges at the time of sale. APR is calculated according to the simple interest method. Not valid in conjunction with other offers. Customer must take delivery by April 30, 2015. Other terms, conditions, and limitations may apply. Dealer participation may vary. Financing offer is subject to change or cancellation at anytime. See your Harley-Davidson dealership for details

Greetings and welcome to you from the Duck Pond. It is that time again, when the chapter holds its annual St. Patty’s Day Run. This year’s run will be the 31st annual holding of our

traditional event. We hope you will find the time to come out and join us as we shake things up a bit.

But first let me address an issue that certain of you have been keen to bring to my attention for several years now and that is whether the proper name for our run should be St. Patty’s or St. Paddy’s. Let me be up front and honest with you by saying I do not know which is correct. According to the Provisional Government of Paddy, it is not Patty, because the d’s in Paddy come from the Irish spelling, Pádraig. So it seems that, in Irish history, it is indeed Paddy, but here in the good old U. S. of A., we Americans call it St. Patty’s. And since our founding brothers and sisters of DHOG saw fit thirty-one years ago to christen our annual run as St. Patty’s that is what I am going to go with.

Paw Paw Scott has decided to throw us a fun change up by moving the run to a Saturday this year and having our run’s beginning point return to Dallas Harley Davidson, like we did in years past. It is our hope that this move will entice more of you to come out and support what has always been a very fun and successful event. We will still have a great route, plenty of stops, along with food and prizes at our ending point, The Hella Shrine, in Garland. Remember, this is an open event, meaning anyone on any brand of scooter can come out and enjoy a great ride, some wonderful fellowship, and make

some lasting memories to take with them. So invite your neighbors, friends or family and come join us for some fun sponsored by your DHOG Chapter.

Speaking of great rides, for those of you who missed our Chapter ride to Lee’s Pizza in Scurry back on Saturday 14 February 2015, you should have come out with us. This was originally James Pate’s ride, that we had to reschedule at least twice due to weather, but Road Captain Jerrod White stepped

up and took charge for a third attempt and he did a good job. It was also an opportunity to train one of our new Road Captain candidates, Brad Layton, by allowing him to lead the ride with Jerrod right behind helping him along the way. Brad did a really good job of leading us and I see a bright future for him if he decides to continue on with his training for one of our Road Captain positions.

We left the Dealership under clear skies and pleasant temperatures with twenty six scooters and thirty one riders for what became a three hour tour. This is the marvelous fact about our DHOG chapter in that, just because our destination may be just down the road, our Road Captains and Officers can find new and exciting roads that take us on new experiences on our scooters. We do not just ride straight there, we take a journey and have adventures along the way. This was a nice 100 plus mile journey and everyone had a great time. When we finally arrived at Lee’s Pizza, we were greeted by another five members who were not able to make the ride but were able to come join us for some pizza and fellowship.

Thanks to Brad, Jerrod, and James for planning and executing a very successful ride for the benefit of our chapter members.

We hope you join us on our 31st St Patty’s Day Run this month and we encourage you to come out and ride with us each weekend. The weather should be getting steadily warmer as

we get close to spring. The Road Captains and Officers put in a lot of time, expense, and planning in putting together our rides and we do it to provide you, the members of DHOG, an opportunity to ride your scooters and be a part of a really great group of likeminded fellow riders. We all bought our Harley’s to ride and what better way to ride than to join us as we go out and make lasting memories together.

I look forward to getting to visit with you at our next get together…

Till next time remember, It’s not the destination, it’s the journey!

Headed out on a chapter ride on a beautiful Saturday morning, going on an errand to the

grocery store, commuting to work? How do we stay safe on the road? The first thing to evaluate is our attitude and how we approach riding our motors.

Checking your bike for mechanical problems such as oil leaks, functioning lights and brakes, tires inflated to the proper pressure. Making sure the motor is in proper working condition is critical to your attitude and safe riding conditions.

Once on the road practice emergency braking before you leave the neighborhood. This means squeezing your front brake and light pressure on your rear brake and practicing a controlled quick stop. This will get your mind focused on riding and not driving your cage. Leaving the neighborhood and you are now in the proper frame of mind.

What is your focus? Staying safe and having fun. Braking using your front brake in conjunction with your rear brake will give you the best stopping power. The front brake is 90% of your stopping power.

Once you can stop effectively then

you need to be able to swerve and maneuver your motor around object in the road, whether it’s an animal, road gator etc…

When we are out on the road our minds should be totally focused on riding. Riding our motors is very similar to flying a fighter jet! We have to go through our pre-flight check

list, observe the mechanical condition of our motor. We then must be totally aware of our surroundings and the ever changing conditions. Continue to ride safe and remember, “Every ride is a practice ride” (Ken Ridout)

Y ou may have noticed a new face behind the lunch counter at DHD the last few weeks. That would be the new Marketing Manager, Rachel Gilham. Some of you may recognize Rachel as she has been working around the shop since July 2013 when she began

doing bikini bike washes, sales videos and other promotions. During that time she also worked as a bartender and server at various restaurants around DFW. Before that she worked for many years as a sales analyst, sales and marketing coordinator and other administrative roles.

While she doesn’t own her own bike (yet) she loves riding with her boyfriend Hector on his 2013 Road Glide®. As it so happens, she met Hector while working a fundraising event for Dallas H-D at his bar (Union Park in Dallas) in September 2013. While it’s only been a few weeks since she started what Rachel enjoys most about her job is being around the shop every day, “I have a passion for Harley Davidson® motorcycles, that’s why I started working here and that’s why I’m still here.” She also enjoys the fast pace and constant challenges, “It never gets boring and the days fly by!”

Rachel is an avid baker and cook, and in her spare time she can be found in the kitchen or on the couch, reading a cookbook. She has a lot to choose from, she collects cookbooks from all eras and cuisines. Her collection stands at over 800… and she is always on the lookout for more! Putting on the Biker Lunch is fun for her, “Anytime I can cook for other people, that is always fun for me. Even if it is just hot dogs or sandwiches I enjoy it.” While she almost always wears a smile, getting her to open up is a little harder. An introvert by nature, small talk isn’t her forte. Asking her about her cat or her favorite recipe for apple pie will help bring her out of her shell.

Rachel’s advice to motorcycle riders is make sure to look twice, or more, at intersections or when changing lanes. Now that the weather is warming up riders will be on the road much more and those in cages don’t necessarily see or hear us all the time. Take it upon yourself to take the extra time to make sure you’re not putting yourself in harms way (even if you have the right of way). Good luck in the new position Rachel, we’ll see you around the shop!

ABOUT THE SALES DEPARTMENTThe Sales Department is one of the best areas in the dealership because we get to enjoy seeing customers obtain their dream bike. More than likely, you will have heard one of our team members ask “what kind of riding do you do or are you planning on doing?” This is because our job is to assist in providing the best solution to your needs as a Harley-Davidson owner. We pride ourselves on having a wide selection of motorcycles, both new and used, so that you can choose your perfect ride!

SERVICE DEPARTMENTJERRY CROUCHService Manager - Service @DallasHD.com

Friendly customers and staffBEST RIDE Texas Hill CountryADVICE TO NEW OWNERS

Maintain your motorcycle according to Harley-Davidson’s

maintenance schedule. Proper maintenance will result in years of enjoyable ownership and will protect your investment.

ABOUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTThe Service Department is the circulatory system of the dealership — the blood flow. But from the customer’s perspective, we are the Pediatric Ward, as we are taking care of their “babies.” We keep in mind that each customer’s primary concern is his or her bike. At any given time we can have up to 100 “primary concerns” in our care. Our job is to find the balance to give each one the attention it demands. Whether it’s a repair, maintenance, or an upgrade, we want to live up to the credo our Technicians came up with — WE TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR RIDE!

HOW TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENTMaking an appointment is easy. The best way is to complete the service request form on dallashd.com and we can save you time by having most of the check-in questions answered. Another option is to call 972-270-3962 and ask to speak with one of our Service Advisors. The check-in process will take about 10 to 15 minutes so we can be certain we are addressing all of your concerns as well as notify you about some of the H-D products that may enhance YOUR ride.

EXTENDED WARRANTY INFORMATIONOne of the best products from Harley-Davidson is the ability to add an extended warranty to your bike at just about any time in your ownership. If you have any questions about coverage, please contact Rob Kellick, a Service Advisor, or a Finance Manager in Sales for more info. Beyond the warranty - the possibilities are nearly endless to make your ride, YOURS. Whether it is performance, appearance, or a combination of both, we are here to help you stamp the final four letters into your V.I.N. — “M-I-N-E.”
