Distinguishing features of his works

• Enjoys taking wide shots with (deep depth of field) of scenery with the human subjects in the foreground.

• Lighting always has clear contrast and colours are usually vibrant for outdoor shots.

• Prefers portraiture in indoor environments, with focus, primarily on human subjects.

5 Notable Works“Kutch Diamond”

Kutchh, India, 2007

• Portrait of a village girl

• Lighting and contrast draw viewers to the shape and form of the girl’s facial features and possible way of life in rural India.

• Behind the scenes effort to set the scene and prepare the subject. (Bottom right)

“Bob on the Rock of Rah”Vanuatu, 2010

• Rule of thirds, High depth of field (small aperture)• Use of natural light, subject slightly turned,

provides contrast and depth of his form.• Long arrow Leads in to Bob and the scenery behind

him

“The Traveller”Dwarka, India 2007

• Rule of thirds disregarded: main subject (man) near center of image.• High depth of field • Flying birds form a rough boundary around subjects, framing them.• Leading lines: pavement leads to the town• Warm colours on the left, contrasts with cool colours of the sea on the right-enhances the effect

of the man making a personal journey to the town.

“The Figuig Oasis”Morocco, April 2013

• Lead in lines, reveals a town built around a water source in the middle of the desert.

• Alternates between warm and cool colours to guide/enhance the lead in line effect.

• High angle shot shows the depth of field and distance between the people walking in the foreground and the rest of the town.

“Veiled woman at the Rissani Souk”

• Wide aperture settings to capture shallow depth of field (ie veiled woman)• Background composition, though blurred, still clear enough to frame the

subject• Warm background colours contrast with cool colours on subject.

Learning Points

• Always practice and take as many photographs as possible.

• To document accurately, try to assimilate into other cultures as much as possible.

• Document and reflect constantly your own skill progress.

• Beautifully vibrant and soothing photographs that educate and enthralls the audience.
