da sempre cerca di coniugare la sua personale interpretazione del mondo delle

immagini con la domanda dell’ambiente che lo circonda, attraverso una visione filtrata

del quotidiano, dove la realtà assume sempre nuovi significati.

Maurizio Marcato inizia a dare sfogo alla sua vena creativa sin da bambino, attraverso

la pittura, per poi scoprire ed accrescere la sua vera passione, la fotografia, dal 1979

trasferendosi a Verona, dove apre uno studio fotografico finalizzato alla creazione di

immagini pubblicitarie e industriali.

Maurizio Marcato é un fotografo poliedrico e sempre attivo a livello internazionale, molti

sono infatti i progetti realizzati tra Giappone e Stati Uniti. I suoi campi d’attività spaziano

dalla fotografia commerciale e pubblicitaria alla fotografia artistica, dal reportage al

ritratto, dall’architettura alla paesaggistica.

Non abbandona mai la fine art realizzando mostre fotografiche di prestigio in tutto il

mondo. Dagli anni ’80 collabora con molte riviste di design e dal 2004 è docente di

fotografia presso la Facoltà di Design del Politecnico di Milano.

La continua ricerca ha portato a concepire una visione più ampia del concetto di

comunicazione. Nasce nel 1994 Terzo Millennium, agenzia che vede un ulteriore

sviluppo dei servizi di consulenza volti al miglioramento dell’immagine aziendale. Tutto

questo grazie anche al consolidamento di un network internazionale.

A questa si aggiunge MiMA International Image District, un’associazione culturale che

attraverso l’esperienza della comunicazione fotografica promuove workshop, iniziative

culturali e progetti espositivi dedicati all’immagine a livello internazionale.

Maurizio Marcato has always tried to combine his own personal interpretation of the

world images with the demand of the environment he lives in through a filtered vision of

the daily life, where reality always takes on new meanings.

Maurizio Marcato began to give full to his creativity since he was young, through

painting to discover and enhance his true passion, namely photography since 1979

moving to Verona, where he opened a photographic studio aimed at creating images

for advertising and industrial applications.

Maurizio Marcato is a versatile photographer, always-on in the international field, many

are the projects realized between Japan and the United States. His interests go from

commercial and advertising to artistic photography, from reportage to portraits, from

architecture to landscapes.

He never gave up with fine art realizing prestigious exhibitions around the world. Since

1980 he has been working with many design magazines and since 2004 he has been

teaching photography at the Design faculty of Politecnico of Milano.

His everlasting research led him to conceive a far wider vision of the communication

concept. In 1994 Terzo Millennium was founded, an agency that further developed the

consultancy service to improve the companies image. All this thanks to a consolidated

international network.

Furthermore there is MiMA International Image District, a cultural association that through

the experience in the photography communication experience promotes workshops,

cultural initiatives and exhibition projects dedicated to international photography.

“Se i miei naturali paesaggi raccontano la poesia di un pianeta dipinto dalle nuvole, dai mari, dai ghiacci, nemmeno voglio far dimenticare la minaccia con cui risponde la natura stessa, come la povertà umana che elemosina acqua con contenitori di plastica o scavando arrangiati pozzi fatti di copertoni, fratelli di milioni di tonnellate di pesticidi detersivi e quanto usato a sproposito, deliberatamente immesso nei territori che insieme a proibitive lavorazioni chimiche hanno ucciso i fiumi prima, mari poi e ora minacciano gli oceani. Ma non voglio dimenticare la fede nel genere umano, nella bellezza di un’adolescente non più bambina non già adulta, una speranza e un futuro che vorrebbe toccare i cuori di quanti hanno il potere di cambiare il corso del tempo e non lo usano. La vita di un fiore scaturito dall’acqua, la morte di un fiore sepolto nel cemento. Le inquadrature sono centrali, puntano dritte al soggetto, nessun virtuosismo, qui la materia racconta e diventa storia. L’acqua pulita che scorre sulla pelle è una sensazione di vita e una sensazione di rinnovo continuo, un bene insostituibile che lo accomuna a tutti gli elementi della natura, come l’aria, non si consuma, continua un eterno scorrimento e continua rinascita. Questo è il ciclo naturale, ma cosa stiamo facendo? Ci siamo adattati e ci adatteremo a molto di peggio, ma rinunceremo all’infinito piacere e all’infinita bellezza dell’acqua? “If my natural landscapes reveal the poetry of a planet painted by the clouds, the seas, the ice, I don’t even want you to forget the threat with which nature itself responds, for example by human poverty begging for water with plastic containers or digging makeshift made of tyres, brothers of the millions of tons of pesticides, detergents and any other thing excessively used and deliberately dumped into the soil, and which, together with forbidden chemical processing, have killed the rivers first, the seas after, and they are now threatening the oceans. But I don’t want to lose faith in the human race, in the beauty of an adolescent who’s neither a child not an adult, a hope and a future which would like to touch the hearts of those who have the power to change the course of time and do not use it. The life of a flower springing from water, the death of a flower buried in the cement. The shots are central, they point straight at the subject, no virtuosity, here the matter tells us something, it is and becomes history. Clean water running down the skin gives a sense of life and a feeling of perpetual renewal, it’s an irreplaceable resource just like the other elements of nature, just like air, it never runs out but keeps going in an everlasting flow and constant rebirth. This is the natural cycle, but what are we doing? We have adapted to this, and we will adapt to even worse events, but will we be able to give up the never-ending pleasure and beauty of water? Da una riflessione sulla condizione umana contemporanea nasce l’idea di Maurizio Marcato di voler creare una mostra fotografica proiettata verso un futuro di difficile definizione. Un futuro... da restaurare. Come si presenta il futuro all’alba del terzo millennio? Una testimonianza molto forte, un grido, un urlo. Solo così ci si può far ascoltare in questo universo caotico. I personaggi di “Restaurando il futuro” acquistano voce tramite la fotografia, ci parlano, ci comunicano sensazioni ed emozioni. Attraverso le immagini toccano argomenti contemporanei che ci riguardano da vicino: l’ecologia, l’acqua, la sostenibilità, l’inquinamento. Acquisire la consapevolezza dell’importanza di tutti questi problemi per riuscire ad arrivare ad una nuova rinascita, una nuova era, un nuovo futuro.La visione di Maurizio Marcato passa attraverso la fotografia 3D, tecnica fotografica ormai sempre più usata, in cui Maurizio Marcato fonde la realtà con il virtuale. La fotografia diventa uno strumento di comunicazione attraverso il quale si fondono l’importanza, la sempre più rilevante presenza della tecnologia nella nostra vita e il futuro verso il quale ci guiderà.

Questa mostra può già vantare la vittoria ad un concorso internazionale. L’opera “Sweet home” è rientrata fra le finaliste del concorso d’arte “Premio Internazionale Tokyo 2010”.

A reflection on the human condition in the contemporary age: this is what lies behind Maurizio Marcato’s desire to create a photographic exhibition able to look out towards a future horizon that is difficult to discern. A future... in need of restoration. How does the future look at the dawn of the third millennium?A strong signal, a scream, a roar. Nothing less will do to make a point in this chaotic universe. The characters featured in “Restoring the future” spring to life through the photographs; they are given a voice, the ability to transmit sensations and emotions. The images tackle contemporary issues of close, direct concern to us: ecology, water, sustainability, pollution. Acquiring awareness of the importance of all those problems is the only route towards rebirth, into a new era, a new future. Maurizio Marcato’s vision takes shape through 3D, a photographic technique whose use is very much on the increase, through which Maurizio Marcato blends the real with the virtual. Photography becomes a means of communication able to take on board the increasing importance and significance of technology in our lives.

This exhibition can already boast an award in an international competition: the work “Sweet home” was among the finalists in the “Tokyo International Award 2010” art competition.

Women don’t War

“Women don’t war” esprime al meglio il sentimento di repulsione verso la violenza contro le donne, ma anche il loro grande coraggio, lavoro e paura. Le donne raccontate da Maurizio Marcato sono portatrici di storie di dolore e di coraggio; sono coloro che ce l’hanno fatta a fuggire da condizioni di vita non più sopportabili, che insieme a uomini e bambini sbarcano sulle coste italiane o attraversano i nostri confini. Chiedono protezione e asilo, perché sono in fuga da ogni tipo di violenza e di terrore. Alcune sono analfabete, altre laureate, casalinghe o insegnanti, contadine o libere professioniste. Soprattutto sono donne con una forza che rinnova la speranza, suggeriscono con gli sguardi e la loro naturale bellezza quella forza della vita che non lascia indifferenti.“In Women don’t war” racconta Maurizio Marcato “ho cercato di ritrarre l’animo di questi veri e grandi personaggi, nella loro bellezza, nella semplicità di come mi si sono presentate, appena arrivate, ancora spaurite, nella loro diversità, nella nobiltà d’animo, riflessa appena dai loro preziosi o semplici vestiti, molto più riflessa nei loro sguardi”.

‘Women Don’t War’ expresses the sentiment of repulsion against women’s violence, but also their great courage, work and fear’.The women described by Maurizio Marcato are carriers of stories of pain and courage; they are those who have escaped from unbearable living conditions, who along with men and children landed on the Italian coast or crossed our borders. They are looking for protection and asylum because they are running away from any kind of violence and terror. Some are illiterate, other graduates, housewives or teachers, peasants or freelancers. They are primarily women with a strenght that renews hope, suggesting with their eyes and natural beauty a strenght for life that leaves no indifference.“In ‘Women Don’t War’” Maurizio Marcato says “I have tried to portray the soul of these great and genuine women, with their beauty, with the simplicity they had when they arrived here, still fearful, in their diversity, in the nobility of their souls, just reflected by their precious or simple dresses, but much more reflected by their eyes”.

Con questa collezione Maurizio Marcato celebra la bellezza, lo stile e lo spirito di libertà della donna Pin Up degli anni ’60.Maurizio Marcato prende ispirazione dal suo amore per l’animo della donna: per la sua sensualità, la sua forza e la sua voglia d’indipendenza. “Nel 1960 avevo sei anni e abitavo a Col San Martino. Non era ancora sparita l’ombra lunga della seconda grande guerra, ma la vita e la voglia di vivere spingevano, pronte a fiorire come la voglia di campare dopo una brutta malattia, come la felicità dopo un mal di denti” racconta l’artista, e continua “chissà se la mia aria trasognante veniva capita quando scortavo con lo sguardo quelle superbe donne che, liberandosi dell’infame violenza e buio portati dalla guerra, si impadronivano della scarcerata moda di allora. Non ho mai dimenticato quel fascino avvolgente, quei passi orgogliosi e audaci che sfidavano il tempo andato e aprivano le porte alla rivoluzionaria era del consumismo e della creatività”.Una donna che si identifica con la creatività, con la ripresa economica, con la felicità: questa è Pin Art. Nel lavoro di Maurizio la macchina fotografica cattura il momento e, nella post-produzione, le immagini appaiono pulite, stilizzate e colorate in modo da sembrare quasi dei dipinti.Il progetto Pin Art è stato esportato anche all’estero, apprezzato dal pubblico internazionale, che già l’ha premiato con numerosi riconoscimenti e preceduto da prestigiose esposizioni come quella presso Icebox Gallery a Minneapolis (Minnesota USA) durante l’evento Art-A-Whirl e la realizzazione di un calendario limited edition nel 2012.

With this vintage collaction Maurizio Marcato celebrates the beauty, style and freedom of the 60‘s Pin Up woman.Maurizio Marcato is inspired by his love for the woman soul: for her sensuality, strength and desire of independence. “In 1960 I was six years old and lived in Col San Martino. The long shadow of the Second World War had not disappeared yet, but the life and the desire to live were strong, they were ready to flourish just like the desire to start living again after a nasty disease, like the feeling of happiness after a toothache” - the artist says - “I wonder if my legendary dreamy nature was understood as my eyes followes those superb women who, setting themselves free from the infamous violence and darkness that came with the war, followed the unrestrained fashion. I have never forgotten that enticing charm, the proud and brave steps that defied the past and opened the doors to the revolutionary era of consumerism and creativity”.A woman that means creativity, economic recovery and happiness: this is Pin Art. In Maurizioʼs work the camera captures the moment and then, during post-production process, images appear clear, stylised and coloured in such a way that they look similar to paintings.The Pin Art project has also been exported abroad, and appreciated by the international audience that has awarded it with numerous acknowledgements, along with the success gained from prestigious exhibitions such as the one at Icebox Gallery of Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA) during the Art-A-Whirl event, and from the realization of a limited edition calendar in 2012.

“La terra è stata percorsa ed esplorata, ma la voglia di avventurarsi, di sentirsi di nuovo nomadi su percorsi diversi dai soliti ha una magia dalla quale difficilmente possiamo sottrarci. Viaggiare poi in paesi dove non si conosce la lingua del posto, ci trasforma in grandi osservatori. Torniamo ad essere più umani: più silenzio, più pensiero ed una comunicazione più essenziale, basata su pochi gesti, quelli che conosce tutta l’umanità. E’ come ritornare alle origini. “The globe has already been explored, but the desire to venture, to feel nomads again on paths different from the usual ones holds a magic from which we cannot back out of. Travelling in countries where we don’t know the language of transforms us into great observers. We become more human: more silence, more thoughts and a more essential communication based on a few gestures well-known to all mankind. It’s like going back to our origins. We travel through enchanting landscapes, we meet people who are regal, we become masters of ourselves and our time once again, full of projects and promises to redesign our lives leaving the banal behind.”

La realtà che abbiamo davanti ai nostri occhi non sempre è veritiera, a volte cela sottili segreti che si possono solo immaginare. Ma che cosa succederebbe se potessimo vederli? Se potessimo davvero, dietro un’immagine, scoprire la realtà che nasconde? Dare vita a nuove immagini, immagini che non si possono vedere ad occhio nudo, che fino ad oggi si potevano solo ipotizzare, così si presenta la mostra di Maurizio Marcato "Smartfun".I soggetti protagonisti prendono vita e aprono nuovi scenari verso mondi della fotografia fino ad oggi nascosti.

"Ispirato più dagli spazi che dagli ingombri ho lasciato esplorare ad una bimba questo mondo tra il reale e il virtuale che contamina gli oggetti domestici con la forza rigenerante della natura. Coesiste una semplice immagine di un immaginario prodotto contaminato con l’imbarazzo della bimba disorientata dall’assenza virtuale di oggetti raccontati come in un gioco. Siamo poveri, fiacchi, privi di senso senza il racconto di una bimba che ci conduce per mano in una silenziosa domanda che ci porta lontano da questo stesso luogo a rigenerare le possibilità di sviluppare una ricerca orientata. Un linguaggio che non supportato da uno smartphone è ancora più incomprensibile del caos o del silenzio".

The reality we see with our eyes is not always true, sometimes conceals subtle secrets that we can only imagine. But what if we could see them? If we really could, behind a picture, discover the hidden reality?Creating new images, images that can not be seen by a naked eye, which until now could only be imagined, this is how Maurizio Marcato presents his exhibition "Smartfun". The protagonists come to life and open up new scenarios to photographic worlds unknown until now.

"Inspired more by spaces than by obstacles I let a child explore this world between the real and the virtual that contaminates household items with the regenerative power of nature. A simple image of an imaginary product coexists contaminated with theembarrassment of the child disoriented by the virtual absence of objects as if they were in a game. We are poor, weak, meaningless without the story of a girl who takes us by the hand and leads us towards a silent question that takes us away from this same place to regenerate the possibility of developing an oriented research. A language that if not supported by a smartphone is even more incomprehensible than chaos or silence".
