Term 4 Week 9, 11 December, 2017

Principal’s Report - Richard Ford

This is the last newsletter for the year. I would like to thank all the parents and community for their

attendance at all our celebration events. The turnouts have been excellent and this has helped build a strong

school culture of support for our students.

Last week we had a visit from a world record holder Paralympic rower, Erik Horrie. He spoke to the

students about trying their best and celebrated their success in the premier sporting challenge. It was a

great experience for our students to meet such a great athlete and down to earth person.

We also had our Christmas concert last week. Although we provided more chairs than last year the crowd

grew again. We had parents everywhere in the hall and it was such a wonderful turnout. The kids did an

amazing job and everybody seemed to have a fun time. I would like to thank all the teachers who made the

morning such a success but also the community who celebrated every performance to give our students a

great sense of pride.

Morrie represented NSW again in football in the national finals whilst also competing in the 200m and the relay

team at the same time. NSW won again and Morrie played some fantastic games. We wish him all the best as he

goes off to High school next year and hope he keeps performing at such a high level.

As the year comes to an end I would like to thank the students, teachers and parents who have made Crawford such a

wonderful place to come each day.

We also need to say goodbye to a few staff members who are moving on. Firstly Mrs Maureen Stirton from the front

office. Mrs Stirton has been at Crawford for over 20 years and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She has

done an amazing job over the years and touched many a students’ and teachers’ heart. She will be sorely missed but

we do hope she enjoys retirement spending time with the grandkids.

Next Miss Haller. Miss Haller is what a teacher at Crawford is all about. Dedicated, caring, hardworking and always

wanting the best for her students. We wish her all the best as she takes up the role of Assistant Principal at Marayong

Heights Public School.

Another teacher who is also taking up a relieving Assistant Principal position is Miss Buraga. She is heading to

Chester Hill Public School for the next 12 months and we hope she enjoys this great opportunity.

Mr Atfield will also be taking some Long Service Leave for the start of the year and we hope to see him back

midway through the year or at the end of the year. We hope you relax and have a well-deserved break.

Mrs McIntosh who returned to us after a few years off has been doing a great job in the library. She has accepted a

library position a little closer to home and we wish her all the best at her new school.

Miss Wilkinson was also made permanent at Ironbark Ridge Public School through the year and will take up her

new role next year. She is such an engaging teacher and she will be sorely missed.

Thank you to Mrs Salib ,Miss Hague-Carey and Mrs Gopakumar for all their tireless work in Learning and support

and RFF positions this year. We know that we will see you in some capacity working at Crawford over next year.

We also have a few people coming to us next year. We welcome Miss Hardie who transferred to our school from

Bidwill, Mrs Kellie Bentley who was successful in gaining the Learning and Support permanent position and Mrs

Furlong who was successful in becoming permanent at Crawford after 6 years. We will also have a couple of new

faces that will arrive day one.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe school holidays and we are looking forward to day one next year. Years 1 to 6

students return on Tuesday 30 January, 2018 and all new Kindys will start on Monday 5 February after doing their

Best Start Assessment.

Erik Horrie PSC Ambassador visit

On Wednesday 6th December Erik Horrie an Australian Paralympic adaptive rower will visit our school

and present some achievement certificates to some of our students. Erik is a silver medallist at the 2012

London Paralympics and it is a real honour for our school to have him talk to the 3-6 students. We had a

large percentage of our 3-6 students take part in the Premier's Sporting Challenge back in Term Three and

as one of the ambassadors of this program Erik has taken time to thank our students in participating.

Morrie's Awards

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure to accept 'The Peter Davis Award' for the most outstanding boy ath-

lete in Sydney West PSSA on behalf of Morrie and our school. This award is of the most highest honour in

terms of sports awards in our sporting Region. Morrie received this award for being selected into the Syd-

ney West PSSA AFL, boys Football and Athletics teams in 2017. The Sydney West PSSA boys Football

team were crown champions earlier in the year with Morrie kicking the winning goal for the title. He of

course then was selected in the NSWPSSA state teams for all of those sports as well. Crawford Public

School and the whole school community is very proud of this humble and most talented sports person. It

has been a privilege to have watched his development across a range of sports.

Mt Druitt PSSA Awards

From a Mt Druitt PSSA award perspective Morrie last week was awarded the Mt Druitt PSSA most out-

standing boy sports person award for representing Mt Druitt in athletics, AFL and boys football. The boys

football team was crowned the champions at the Sydney West PSSA championships as well.

Adina was also presented an award for gaining selection into the Mt Druitt/St Mary PSSA girls touch foot-

ball team that were crowned Sydney West champions earlier in the year. Both these students had a fantas-

tic year on the sporting field and I wish them all the best and hope to see them grace the field representing

their family and community at even a higher level.

PSSA 2018

Next year many of our students may try out for the summer PSSA competition. Sports that would be on

offer are AFL, Cricket, Girls Touch Football, T-Ball and Softball and also Volley Ball and Newcombe

Ball. These sports are a great way to develop teamwork and skills across various sports that use different

fundamental movement skills. I recommend that students in years 3-6 look at taking part in such a fantastic

competition convened by so many wonderful teachers in our PSSA system.

Football signed shirt raffle

Thank you for all the support that our school community provided this year in all the raffles that assisted

Morrie make it to Adelaide this week. We raised over $1400 in raffles this year and these funds really

helped his family meet the coasts involved in such an event.

The winners of the signed Wanderers and Sydney FC training shirts were:

D Fox - 'Wanderers'

C Johnson - 'Sydney FC '

Thank you again for all those who supported the raffles.

Lastly I would like to wish everyone a most safe and restful holiday period. Thank you for all your support

this year and I look forward to the new year and new sporting challenges for our students.

From the sports desk.
