PALM SUNDAY ~ “Hosanna to the Son of David” shouts the crowd as the liturgy of Palm (Passion)

Sunday begins; “Crucify him!” is shouted just as loudly and brings to a conclusion the readings from

the Word (the gospel reading of the Passion of Mark). A crowd simply can’t be any more fickle than

this. The crowd is a classic example of a mob – easily excited and easily manipulated. The crowd

doesn’t think for itself. The crowd doesn’t know what is really happening but only perceives the feeling welling up

within itself. If a convincing voice cries out ‘murder’ – then the crowd must provide the one to be murdered. The

crowd is so easily used to achieve even horrific ends. This scene is an old scene; it is a present scene; and it is the

future. It is, simply, human. Although history teaches lessons, it doesn’t necessarily teach people how to think or

how to live moral lives. This is one reason the Church believes in the need for the forming of consciences. This is

why the Church seeks to think through and attempt to communicate logical, thoughtful and wise ways to live our

lives as Christians. The Church is not perfect. The Church has made mistakes throughout history. But the Church

certainly makes an honest and helpful contribution to the human race in attempting to figure out how we can live –

not like crowds and mobs, but rather like thoughtful, caring, faith-filled followers of Jesus Christ!

+ PARISH FINANCES + GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION On this Friday, Good Friday, our donations are collected on behalf of the religious sites in the Holy Land. This day on which we celebrate the Passion and Death of our Lord, we donate to take care of the religious sites that are visited by

countless pilgrims each year. People come from all over the world to stand in these places where Jesus stood when he walked upon this earth. Most people say there are no words to express the power they feel being in this sacred place we simply call -- the Holy Land. Please be generous. Your donation will help to keep the religious sites well cared for, safe, and ready to receive the many who will make a sacred pilgrimage in the year to come!

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): TODAY begins Holy Week and the final week of spiritual preparation for the Elect who will receive the Sacraments of

Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Their excitement and joy can only be matched by the anticipation of our whole community who have been keeping them in prayer over this entire Lenten Season. Pause this week to lift them up in prayer. Ask God to pour out his Spirit over these days and especially in the celebrations within our community of faith.

This is the most sacred and powerful week of grace in the

whole church year. Nothing can be more fruitful than

participating in the sacred liturgies if

PALM SUNDAY AND EASTER SUNDAY

Please follow directions from the Knights of

Columbus who will be directing traffic on Palm,

and Easter Sundays. You WILL NOT be

allowed to enter the parking lot from Avenue 32, OR EXIT the lot

on Avenue 33. You must enter from Avenue 33 and exit to Avenue 32. Arrive early to deal with the extra traffic. Your cooperation on

these dates will be appreciated by your fellow parishioners.

Domingo de Ramos "¡Hosanna al Hijo de David", grita la multitud al dar principio a la liturgia del

Domingo de Ramos (Domingo de la Pasión); "¡Crucifícalo!" grita igualmente fuerte y lleva a la conclusión de las lecturas de la Palabra (Evangelio de la Pasión de San Marcos). La multitud no puede ser más voluble. Es un ejemplo clásico de la muchedumbre quien se deja manipular fácilmente. La multitud no

piensa por sí misma, no sabe lo que realmente está pasando, sólo percibe el sentimiento que brota dentro de ellos mismos. Si una voz convincente grita ‘muerte’ entonces la multitud debe proporcionar al que debe ser asesinado. Se utiliza a la multitud con mucha facilidad para alcanzar fines, incluso fines horrendos. Esta es una vieja escena; escena del presente; y del futuro. Es, simplemente, humana. Aunque la historia da lecciones, no necesariamente enseña a la gente cómo pensar ni cómo vivir los valores morales. Esta es una de las razones por la cual la Iglesia cree en la necesidad de la formación de conciencias. Esta es la razón por la que la Iglesia busca reflexionar e intenta comunicar formas lógicas y sabias para vivir nuestra vida como Cristianos. La Iglesia no es perfecta. La Iglesia ha cometido errores a lo largo de la historia. Pero la Iglesia ciertamente contribuye de manera honesta y útil a la raza humana al intentar descifrar cómo podemos vivir - no como las multitudes, sino como atentos, bondadosos, y llenos de fe, fieles seguidores de Jesucristo!

Este viernes, Viernes Santo, las donaciones se recogen a nombre de los lugares religiosos en Tierra Santa. Este día en que celebramos la pasión y

muerte de nuestro Señor, donamos para cuidar de los lugares religiosos visitados por numerosos peregrinos que cada año llegan de todas partes del mundo a visitar los lugares que Jesús pisó cuando caminó sobre la tierra. La mayoría de la gente dice que no encuentran palabras para expresar el poder que sienten al estar en este lugar sagrado que simplemente llamamos Tierra Santa. Por favor, sea generoso. Su donación ayudará a mantener aestos lugares religiosos bien cuidados, seguros y listos para recibir a los muchos que va a hacer una peregrinación sagrada en los próximos años!
