Courses in aesthetics (the philosophy of beauty) traditionally focus on such topics as fine art, classical music and literature. In this course we will study more every-day objects. No previous coursework in philosophy is required,
although is helpful. Topics Include:
Rock Music: What does the widespread preference for rock music over classical music say about Western culture?
Horror Movies: Horror is the most popular genre of film in the U.S.A., yet no horror movie has ever won an academy award.
The Art of Food: Can we think of cooking as an art form?
Aesthetics of Personal Style: What does personal style say about a person? Can one make their life into an artwork?
