the start of Term 2
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of Term One! This week has been
another busy week with our combined Infants and Primary scripture services
held yesterday; the Infants Easter Hat Parade down Kendall Street and Easter
Egg Hunt today and our whole-school end of term Assembly tomorrow, I’m
sure that all students, staff and parents are looking forward to the holidays and
the opportunity to relax and recharge the batteries!
School Fete
What a wonderful evening we had last Friday night at the Cowra Public
School Fete. The P&C committee certainly outdid themselves with the huge
array of stalls, delicious food, exciting entertainment and fun and games for
the whole family. The weather was perfect and the large crowd enjoyed all
that was on offer. Thank you to the hardworking P&C and CPS staff who have
worked tirelessly over the past few months to ensure the fete was such a huge
success, and thank you to all the families who came along and supported our
school.
State Swimming
Congratulations and good luck to Year 5 student Zoe McKay who is
competing at the State PSSA Swimming Championships in Homebush this
week. To make it to this level of competition is a remarkable achievement
and Zoe will contest the 50m Breaststroke event today. All of us at CPS wish
you the very best Zoe!
Easter Hat Parade and Egg Hunt!
Today also marked the annual CPS Infants Easter Hat Parade! Children have
been busily making their original creations over the past week and today the
finishing touches were put in place, hats were securely fastened onto heads
and all nine Infants classes made their way up and down Kendal Street. Thank
you to all the families and friends who came along to watch the parade and
support our school. Also this afternoon, all students K-6 had a ball
participating in our whole-school Easter Egg Hunt! Thank you to the P&C who
donated approximately 1600 eggs. Be sure to check out the school’s
Facebook page for lots of gorgeous photos!
Past Student Success!
Congratulations to former CPS student and former prefect Bella Scammell!
Bella recently competed in three events at the Australian National Rowing
Championships held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, winning two
gold medals and one silver. The events were: Gold - Schoolgirl Coxed Quad,
Gold - Under 17 Women's Double Scull and Silver - Under 19 Women's Coxless
Quad. What a fantastic achievement and a true testament to Bella’s hard
work and determination!

Term 2 Staffing
This Friday we sadly farewell Mrs Amanda Partridge, who will be taking some time away from the classroom
to prepare for the birth of her third child. We wish Amanda and her husband Tim all the best, and can’t
wait to meet baby Partridge in the near future! Mrs Mel Montgomery will return next term from maternity
leave to take up the position of classroom teacher on Gilaa, alongside Mrs Berry, and we are very excited
to be welcoming her back to CPS. Mrs Sheryl-Ann Pulling will be taking leave for the remainder of the year
and we look forward to Miss Jayne Sharkey joining our team as the new Garru teacher for 2019. Jayne had
the opportunity to meet the students in Garru this week, and is very excited to be starting her career on
such a beautiful class! I would like to thank and acknowledge the work that Mrs Gay Hilton has done with
Garru for the latter part of this term – we are fortunate to have such amazing teachers at CPS.
ANZAC Day
This year ANZAC Day falls in the school holidays and as in past years, we will be participating in the Cowra
ANZAC Day Wreath-laying Ceremony and ANZAC Day March. Thank you to all students who have already
returned notes indicating they will be participating. Students will need to meet the staff at the Cenotaph
outside the Cowra Service’s Club in Brisbane St at 10:00am. Please ensure children are in full winter school
uniform. Parents will need to collect their child from River Park at the conclusion of the march. We look
forward to seeing everyone there!
Week 11 Assembly
Just a reminder to all families, that tomorrow we will hold our “End of Term Whole-school Assembly” from
11:30am in the Hall. This is a combined Infants and Primary Assembly. All parents of students K-6 are invited
to attend and we will have some special performances from the School Band and Choir. We hope to see
you there.
As we wrap up the final week of Term One I would like to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of the staff at
Cowra PS and the wonderful progress the students have made so far this year. I hope all CPS families have
a relaxing holiday and enjoy spending time with friends and family. School resumes for teachers on
Monday 29th April and all students will return to school on Tuesday 30th April.
Have a great week…
