PG&E’s Energy Management Solutions for HOTELS, MOTELS, & RESORTS Pacific Gas and Electric Company offers hotels, motels, and resorts design assistance, financial incentives, as well as education and training to support energy efficient, high performance buildings. Whether you are planning a new facility, retrofitting old inefficient equipment, or implementing demand response capabilities, PG&E’s energy management solutions can be customized to meet the unique needs of your project. For more information on PG&E’s ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS, call the Business Customer Service Center (800) 468-4743 or visit www.pge.com/business PG&E’S ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS can help you control your operating expenses through building energy efficiency and demand response capabilities into your new and existing facilities, and your long-range planning. Services include energy analyses of existing facilities, design assistance for planned projects, equipment rebates, project incentives, and education and training. DESIGN ASSISTANCE, REBATES AND INCENTIVES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING MEASURES: NATURAL LIGHT Utilize natural daylight to illuminate common areas such as lobbies, reception areas, and conference halls. Daylighting can substantially minimize energy use while enhancing the functionality of interior space. Choose appropriate window glazing to control direct thermal gain from sunlight. The sun’s energy can be used as an energy saving heat source, or blocked to reduce cooling load, depending on local climate conditions. LIGHTING – Install compact fluorescent lighting in guest rooms and common areas. Substantial energy savings can be achieved with minimal impact on lighting quality. HEATING AND COOLING – Utilize heat pumps for guest room heating and cooling. Water-source and air-source heat pumps are typically among the most efficient unitary heating and cooling units available. CONTROLS – Install guest room occupancy sensors to control thermostats and lighting. By turning off light fixtures and allowing heating and cooling set-points to float in unoccupied rooms, significant savings may be achieved without compromising occu- pant comfort. Install occupancy-activated bi-level light fixtures in stairwells and linen closets. Areas that see transient or infrequent use can reap large energy savings by using self-adjusting light fixtures. PROCESS LOADS Specify pre m i u m - e fficiency motors for pumps and cooling equipment. DEMAND RESPONSE STRATEGIES – Shift on-site laundry operations to off-peak times. Avoiding electricity use during peak utility periods can reduce energy demand and drastically lower utility bills COOL ROOFS – Use highly reflective roofing material to reduce the absorption of thermal energy from sunlight and lower air cooling requirements within the facility. COMMISSIONING – Insist on new construction commissioning, retro-commissioning, or re-commissioning to ensure that building systems are built and operate as intended OTHER STRATEGIES • Install low-flow showerheads in guest rooms; faucet technologies can save large amounts of energy and water with little or no loss of functionality. • Implement an optional towel-sheet reuse program; by allowing guests to choose to re-use their sheets and towels for more than one day, major energy, water, and cost savings may be realized. • Train employees to conserve energy and promote efficiency. “The Fairmont Hotel has a ‘Green Initiative’ so we are very pleased with all the savings we are able to achieve: significant savings in energy consumption, as well as maintenance costs. We retrofitted lighting with longer-lasting compact fluorescents, installed variable frequency drives on the fan systems, and installed occupancy sensors in the ‘back of the house’. We achieved a load reduction of about 34.79 kW, and received over $3500 in rebates to boot. A great program all around.” Don Vincent Director of Engineering The Fairmont San Francisco

Energy AnalysesAn energy analysis - also referred to as an “energy audit” - is the first step toward a comprehensive energy management plan and can help you identify a no cost, low cost and investment grade action plan. PG&E offers an on-site Integrated Energy Audit that identifies opportunities in demand response and self-generation as well as energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency Rebates for Your Business Rebates are the quickest and simplest way for you to get cash back for your eligibleenergy efficient purchases. PG&E offers rebates for hundreds of energy-efficient technologies in multiple categories: Appliances and General Improvements, Boilersand Water Heating, Food Service, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC),Lighting, and Refrigeration. To find out if a product qualifies under the rebate program, go to www.pge.com/biz/rebates/rebates_assistance or contact the BusinessCustomer Service Center at 1 (800) 468-4743 to request an application and one ormore technology catalogs.Customized Energy Efficiency/Demand Response Incentive ApplicationFor more customized energy efficiency projects or projects with a demand responsecomponent, PG&E offers design assistance, calculation support, and standardizedincentive rates through the Customized Energy Efficiency/Demand Response Incentive.Total incentive payments are based on actual reductions in energy usage. Customersand their consultants may sponsor projects under this approach. Be sure to contactPG&E early in the design process, before you start your project so that you can sched-ule optional technical support and the required pre-inspection of your existing equip-ment.

New Construction Design Assistance and Cash IncentivesPG&E’s new construction program – also referred to as Savings By Design – providesowner and design team cash incentives, technical design assistance, and education to support the design and construction of energy efficient new facilities and processsystems. Incentives are based on exceeding Title 24 requirements by at least 10% for standard building systems, and on exceeding industry standard practice baselinesfor process systems. Through both the simple Systems Approach and the moreintegrated Whole Building Approach, owners and design teams may be eligible for cash incentives.
