    If your machine is foot-operated. push theplug of the sewlight cord into the wall outlet

    To switch on the sewlight, push the buttonon the face cover (see ill.).

    Power-driven machines (with built-in motoronly) feature a lever (10) underneath thebalance wheel which serves to swing themotor to its operative position. To engagethe motor, flick this lever down. After youhave completed sewing, flick this lever toits top position.

  • 1To enlarge the sewing area of the Pfaff 295.295-1 and 297-1 for ordinary sewing operations, push the workplate into the free arm asfar as it wilt go (Fig. 1). Then lock it in placeby turning down the lever on the back of themachine (Fig. 2) until the locking stud snapsinto the nole in the free arm. Press the work-plate support against the machine base untilit snaps into place (Fig. 3).To remove the Norkplate, swing up is support and unlock it by pulling Out and swingng up the lever on the back of the machine

    (Fig. 3).

    On machines having no carrying case base.the worplate supoort is pressed against thebaseplate of the machine.

    To draw up the bobbin thread, hold theneedle thread and lower the sewing foot

    Turn the balance wheel toward you a full turn.Pull the needle thread to draw up the bobbinthread.

    Place both threads back under the sewingfoot after it has been raised again.

    Fundamentals of machine operationBefore you begin working your machine youshould know the following:

    Turn utility-stitch control (5) clockwise (asindicated by arrows in Fig. 1) until the symbol of the desired seam (straight stitch, zigzag stitch, etc.) is opposite the dot.For ordinary sewing, needle position lever(19) should be in its center position (Fig. 2).

    Make sure take-up lever (2) is at its highestpoint before you begin and after you havecompleted a seam (Fig. 3).Aways rotate balance wheel (8) toward you(see arrow). As you do this, check to makesure the stop motion knob is tightened firmly(Fig. 4).

    The bobbin thread tension is regulated byturning the small knurled screw on the bobbin case (Fig. 1).

    Turn this screw right (with your thumb nail)for a tighter tension, or left for a looser tension.

    This tension s set correctly if a sight resstance nas to be overcome when pullingthe thread.

    Please note: Ease both :ensions somewnatfor sewing Silk and other delicate fabrics.

    To change the needle, oring the needle barto its highest point and lower the sewingfoot. Loosen needle set screw (22) and pulllhe old needle out of the needle clamp.Insert new needle and push it up as far as itwill go (Fig. 3), making sure that the flatside of its shank aces toward the back.Tighten screw (221 secureiy.Use system 130 needles as indicated in thetable on the inside rort cover

  • To prepare your macnine for darnnc. proceed as follows:

    Replace he ordinary sewing foot by darning foot No. 93-106103-91. attaching it fromthe rear so that soring clip c rests on needleset screw i22l Tighten sewing foot thumbscrew (16). Lower the presser bar lifter

    Draw up tOe bobbin thread and hold boththreads lightly with your eft hand whilethe first stitches are being made. Trimthe threads and start stitching back andforth across the hole in sewing directionMake sure the threads are anchored in tneunworn area around the hole.

    Turn the faoric at right angles and sewbacK and forth over the preceding workwith short stitcrtes.

    If th.e needle thiead should break, the upper tension is too tight.

  • Use ordinary sewing foot.Stitch length: 2Turn utility-stitch control (5)to zigzag-stitch symbol.

    To overcast the edges of light and medium-weight fabrics, set the machine for its maximum stitch width.

    Soft and flimsy fabrics are best overcast witha zigzag stitch of medium width.

    Make sure the needle takes one stitch into thefabric and the other over its edge. This willcover the fabric edge securely.

    Attach ordinary sewing foot.Turn utility-stitch control (5) tozigzag stitch symbol.Set stitch length control between buttonhole symbol andO.Set stitch width control (18) onnarrow zigzag seam symbol.

    Sew the two pieces of material togetherwith the machine set as indicated above.Then press the seam open. This seam isparticularly well suited for stretch fabrics.When sewing synthetic stretch fabrics, pleasenote the instructions given for regulating thetension on p. 16.

    Remove the sewing foot and drop the machine feed Attach the darning foot andlower the presser bar lifter Insert a No. 70needle and use No. 50 embroidering anddarning thread. Ease the needle threadtension somewhat.

    Trace the monogram on the fabric.

    Let the needle stitch into the fabric at thebeginning of the design and craw the bobbin thread up through the fabric Hold ocththread ends and start your macnine.

    Hold the fabric taut with noth hands. F:msyfabrics are best piaced in darning hooos.Slowly move the material n writing direction.iithout turning c. ihiie the macn:ne s uning at hgn speed.

    Use a thin needle isee Needle and ThreadChart) and sew with straight or very narrowzigzag stitches. Sew synthetic materials withsynthetic thread.

    Hold syntretic materials a ittle taut whilesewing.

    Ease the needle Thread tension somewhat.

    Changing the needle positionSome special sewing jobs are made withthe needle switched to the right or left of

    .the needle plate slot. This is done cy movinglever (19) to the right arid left, respectively.The needle position lever is indispensablefor sewing on buttons and sewing buttonholes, for instance.

    Button sewing

    Attach clear-view sewing foot No. 93-100179-00.Flick the needle to its left position and dropthe machine feed.

    Turn utility-stitch control to zigzag symbol.Raise the needle. Place fabric and buttonunder the foot so that the holes in the buttonare visible through the needle slot in the foot.Regulate the stitch width until the needle alternately stitches through both holes. Beforesewing on the button, rotate the balancewheel to check the stitch width. If necesarry.adjust. Sew on the button.Move the stitch width control toward theright (straight stitchi and make two or threetying stitches.
