The P&F Association would like to welcome all new families to John Wollaston and look forward to meeting you all. BUSH DANCE AND BARBECUE Each year the P&F Association hosts a Bush Dance and Barbecue at the School to welcome everyone back. It is a great opportunity for new families to John Wollaston to meet other families, staff and teachers. The P&F Association will supply hamburgers and a sausage sizzle. Iced water will be available and the café will be open to purchase drinks and ice-creams. We will be entertained by “The Mucky Duck Bush Band”. This event is always a great night so bring along your chairs or picnic rug and join us for a fun evening. You will soon receive an Invitation to the Bush Dance which will be held on Wednesday 20 February 2013. To help with catering please complete the RSVP and return it to school. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The AGM will be held in the Library on Wednesday 6 March 2013 at 7:00pm in the Library Resource Centre. We would love to see some new faces at our AGM. The main aim of the P&F Association is to help our children by organising Barbecues, Discos, Seminars and the disbursement of the P&F Levy. QUIZ NIGHT In 2012 the P&F Association with the help of parents and businesses hosted a very successful Quiz Night. This year we will be hosting a Quiz Night on 29 June 2013. Please keep this date in mind as we would love some help and donations of prizes. SEMINAR In partnership with the Primary School, the P&F Association has organised a seminar for parents presented by Mr Griffin Longley, the Chief Executive Officer of Nature Play WA. Aside from his key role at Nature Play WA, Griffin Longley is an award-winning journalist, a columnist with The West Australian and the Manager of the Midnight Basketball programmes for at-risk youth in Midland. He will be speaking on the growing body of evidence showing the importance of free-play outdoors (nature play) to children’s cognitive and emotional development, capacity to learn and behavior. “We are in the middle of the single biggest change in childhood in human history, and it has never been more important to understand the impact that physical, unstructured, outdoor play has on the way our kids develop, relate to the world around them and learn”, says Mr Longley. Date: Tuesday 5 March 2013 Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm Location: The Chapel The briefing promises to be highly informative and give parents insight into the significant role outdoor activity plays in children’s development.
