to eat, space to sleep, space to be silent, space to be themselves, space to make their own decisions, physical space and emotional space.

- Consider how you ask people about their identities. For many people Camp is the first space where they have been able to be open about aspects of their identities, and sometimes explaining this stuff can feel like hard work, invasive or just too much. That said, if you approach someone with a question with openness and respect and everyone’s into it, conversations about how we all identify can be great learning experiences.

- A word about pronouns: A person’s pronouns, (He, She, Hers, His, Zie, it, They, Theirs etc), like their name, belong to them and them alone. It is something that is self-defined, so avoid making assumptions. When you ask someone for their name, it is also a good idea to ask them what pronoun they use.

Post  Monster,  2014

“I  will  never  forget  the  people   I  have  met  and   the  friends   I  have  made.   I've  changed   my  appearance  and   have  become  more   comfortable   in  my  skin.  Thank   you  for  providing  me  with  such   a   life  changing   experience   I  will  never  forget”

“Thank   you   for  allowing  me  the  opportunity   to  be  myself   without  fear   of  judgement or  hate.  I  have  grown   in  my  five  short  days.   I  have  met  so  many   amazing   people  who   I  shall  never  forget.  My  memories   of   Camp  Out  will  always  be  with  me  and   I’m  sure  with  others.  My  fellow  campers

have  become   more  than   that,  they  are  my  family”

“Here  in  Camp  I  went  through  self-‐discovery  that  I  CAN  BE  ANYTHING  I  WANT  and  this  was  just  a  little  glimpse  of  the  real  world.  I  can’t  thank  everyone

enough  for  my  first  camp”

“I  walked  up  to  the  Campout  banner  on  Monday  morning  a  bundle  of  nerves.  I  was  worried  about  so  many  things

and  knew  no-‐one.  Now  it’s  the  last  day  and  I’m  sitting  in  a  puddle  of  my  own  tears  so  reluctant  to  leave  this  magical  rainbow  wonderland.  I  have  had  so  many  wonderful  experiences,  from  introducing  myself  as  a  mermaid  and  being  known  as  that  for  the  rest  of  camp,  helping  out  in  the  kitchen-‐finding  a  home  within  a  home-‐ to  learning  an  amazing   array  of  skills  and  gaining  heaps  of  knowledge  in  workshops,  to  making  amazing  friends  and  being  brave  enough  to  dance  in  front  of  50+  near  strangers.  I  will

treasure  these  memories  forever”

“Queerness  is  a  longing  that  propels  us  onward,  beyond  romances  of   the  negative  and  toiling  in  the  present.  Queerness  is  that  thing  that  lets  us  feel  that  this  world  is  not  enough,  that

indeed  something  is  missing.”
