Functionality of the Month – How to set up Petrel for stereo ?

Example of Workflows - Asset team work from Seismic to

1. Open any Petrel project 2. Open a 3D window 3. Right-click inside the 3D

window and select Preferences / Stereo

4. Click on Use Stereo and select the desired mode

5. Adjust the Balance and Offset

The stereo functionality has been in Petrel since the beginning. It is a free option, which is part of the Base of Petrel, so any Petrel users can use stereo mode.

Tips : You can actually v iew Petrel in Stereo mode from your laptop or desktop if you are using the Red and Blue paper glasses and the Red/Cyan stereo mode

Workflow of the month – How to quick start with Petrel Uncertainty Editor ?

The Uncertainty Editor is part of the Base of Petrel so any user has access to that functionality. If the module is inactive (gray), it just means that you have not run Volume Calculation.

Few tips associated to Uncertainty workflows: Why my Uncertainty Editor is non-active and gray ? Make sure you have run at least 1 volume calculation which should be your Base Case model. What are the "Processes defining the case" ? These are all the properties that have been used to run volume calculation. For example, you have access to the Facies grid only it has been used as a conditioning during Property modeling. In my volume calculation I have used a 3D property created in the calculator and I can not see it under the “Processes defining the cases ? Please be aware that Property generated using the Property calculator won't be reported inside the Uncertainty editor. How do you define a Variable ? Any text starting by a $ (without space) is a variable in Petrel. How do I view the results ? For combined uncertainty , open a Histogram and select the cases created under the Case Tab, then go under Results Tab to select the volume you want to be reported. The P10, P50, P90 appear automatically . How do I view the variable values used for each case ? Under Results tabs, you can Double-click under Volumetrics folder and show the Report Settings. The report will be created with each indiv idual variable value. Under each case you have also access to indiv idual volume results.

What is the difference between Sensitivity and Combined ? Combined is bundling all the Variables in 1 go so you get the P10-P50-P90, but you don’t know which parameters is influencing your volumes. If you want to know about that, you can use exactly the same workflow but selecting Sensitiv ity instead which means that it will run every variable independently from each other. How can I create Sensitivity Plots ? When selecting Sensitiv ity and defining several variables in different processes, you will see the Number of run changes. Petrel stores the different cases into different folders. Right click under the top folder and Create Sensitiv ity Plot. Now you have a plot for each variable with each P10, P50, P90 and you can see which one is pushing the volumes up or down. How do I extract output grids from the cases I have been running ? Petrel Uncertainty editor do not output all the grids created, but all the parameters are saved so it is very easy to regenerate each case. Once you have set up all your variables using the Uncertainty Editor, you can click on the icon "Create Workflow" which is actually translating the Uncertainty Editor into a full Process Manager workflow. Now in the Process Manager you are free to add any lines, like Make v isible, extract output grid... save project, print... You can also regenerate a workflow under any indiv idual case (right click under one Case and select "Create worklfow").
