Joy can be defined as an emotional state of being or a feeling of elation, but many people miss the mark when searching exclusively for it. The world’s definitions of joy are incomplete and impartial, because those definitions can change at any time. To learn the truth about how to find it, we must search through the Bible. The world says we can find happiness when we buy a new car, shop at a particular department store, or earn a certain salary, or socialize with the right crowd. The problem with this way of thinking is that what the world says is important becomes meaningless and temporary when compared with the Scriptures, which are unchanging truths. When we study the Bible, we learn that God’s plan includes perfect happiness in Him. “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” ( John 16:24). Jesus spoke those words to His disciples to teach them that true and lasting joy comes only from God. When we refocus our mindset from looking for happiness with worldly things to realizing that it’s actually a blessing from heaven, our whole perspective begins to change. The world tells us we have to work hard to find any degree of happiness or peace, fleeting though it may be. Jesus reveals to us that we can’t find joy through our own efforts, only through Him. “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4, 6, 7). His blessings are found in peaceful children, happy marriages, stable finances, and success and prosperity in everything we do. Accepting God’s Word as truth and believing it strongly enough to apply it to our life allows Him to pour out those blessings on us. We’re suddenly caught by surprise when we realize that the deep sense of peace and joy that flows through us comes from His thoughts toward us. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11). God’s joy goes deeper than just a sense of elation or exhilaration. When we believe His promises to us, even in situations when we don’t feel happy at the moment, we still have a supernatural sense of joyful peace. It’s higher, deeper, and wider than any ocean, and we simply know it’s from His presence. “Rejoice always, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thess. 5:16, 18). God wants us to know that the kind of happiness greater than we could ever imagine is found only through Him. The theme of thanksgiving is mentioned repeatedly in the Scriptures because when we encounter His love, we can’t help but give thanks for the joy we discover. It originates from Him, not from the world. “Why is everyone hungry for more? ‘More, more,’ they say. ‘More, more.’ I have God’s more-than-enough, more joy in one ordinary day than they get in all their shopping sprees. At day’s end I’m ready for sound sleep, For you, God, have put my life back together” (Psalm 4:6-8, MSG). He makes us whole again! Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat 1 Altar Workers 6:30 pm 2 (Each Wed.) Thanksgiving Donations

Each year the C.E.C. Food Ministry gives out boxes with tur-

keys, potatoes and gravy, vegetables, and all the trimmings

to families from our church and community that otherwise

would not have a Thanksgiving dinner.

In 2015 we were able to bless nearly 100 families, and plan

to give at least that many again this year. We need your help!

Can you help us with a turkey, or canned vegetables? We also accept and ap-

preciate cash donations! Please bring any donations to the church office, or call

Spirit Filled Revival!

“. . .We will pursue and recover all!” 1 Samuel 30:8

“Behold I do a new thing and it shall spring forth.”

You don’t want to miss this powerful Woman of God as she ministers under the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Mother Sherman has devoted over 50 years to the ministry preaching the Word of God.

She is a dedicated and committed servant unto the Lord. Come with expectations of renewal, restoration and revival.

Many times I’ve been asked why I hold the sign. I’ve given different answers at different times. I hold the sign because I love the Lord (first great commandment), because I love the people (second great commandment), and because I want to be obedient to the Lord (John 14:15) and do what He says. Holding the sign lifts up the name of Jesus, edifies fellow Christians (builds them up), and presents Jesus’ name and message to the worldly.

Since I started the sign ministry, the Bible, the Word of God, has come alive to me. When I’m on the street corner, scripture comes alive at times. Interaction with people brings about many Biblical truths. Some people want to hug you, others want to curse, cuss or hit you. Many drive by stone faced.

Over the course of my ministry, I have heard back from some of the people. Many times I’ve been told that my ministry has changed people’s lives for the better. No, I’m not getting a big head or getting puffed up. I know that it is a work of the Holy Spirit that changes these people and their lives, I give all the credit to God. I’m just glad that He can use my hands, feet and voice. The Sign Ministry has also changed me a lot! I have experienced a lot of spiritual growth that would have never come about in any church building.

Let’s talk a little about persecution. Persecution just shows that scripture (biblical truth) works. Yes, it causes some people to talk negatively. Christians are to pray for those who persecute them (Matthew 5:44). Persecution brings a blessing on Christians and we are to be glad it has happened to us (Matthew 5:11-12). To understand persecution, please read and think about John 15:20 and 2 Timothy 3:12. Persecution is not something to be afraid of, you may not like it, but don’t be afraid when it comes.

Q. Who do I want for the Sign Ministry? A. Christians. My Sign Ministry is easy, it can grow fellowships and it can build you up spiritually. I would like to have Pew Sitters to come and join me and come alive spiritually. Who knows, the Sign Ministry could be your stepping stone to your own ministry.

My final point is that Pastor Maynard has held a sign many times and he promotes this ministry during church services. God bless you, Bro. Alan Burns

Our Nursery continues to share and thrive for the needs of our congregation. Our efforts are ongoing in welcoming new staff and assistants (Ages 16-18), that may be searching for a way to serve in God’s Kingdom. Classroom hours begin when Pastor releases the young people to children’s church, and closes at the beginning of prayer. Objective: Our objective is to provide a safe and loving environment for children, parents, and/or guardians, from their birth to 3 years of age. We ensure that all is decent and in order, and without any disruptions or distractions, during services and prayer in our place of worship.

Our Mission Statement and Commitment: Is to encourage a more parent friendly atmosphere, allowing all to hear the Word of God in our nursery along with their children. Also, to allow ALL parents and children to feel comfortable in a welcoming place, to respect our services, and to suit the needs or our children at Calvary. Our goal is to make your child’s experience in our

nursery a safe and pleasant one. We ask that you continue to pray for our ministry, as we move in a more positive direction, and continue to grow our ministry with new members. Please contact any Nursery Staff member for further details. Sis. Jae Sanchez
