MINIATURE CIRCUIT BREAKER

• Why used?• The indication of faulty

circuit become very fast

• provides shrouds to prevent direct touch with live parts ensuring protection against electrical shocks.

• Operating

mechanism:• Quick make • Quick break trip free

mechanism

RCCB (RESIDUAL CURRENT CIRCUIT BREAKER)

• The RCCB works on the principle of current balance that is in an electrical circuit .

• The incoming current is equal to the outgoing current.

• The CORE BALANCE TRANSFORMER having primary and secondary winding and a sensitive relay for instantaneous detection of fault signal.

• The primary winding lies in series with supply mains and load.

• The secondary winding are connected to sensitive relay.

MCCBS (MOULDED CIRCUIT BREAKER)

1. Actuator lever - used to manually trip and reset the circuit breaker. Also indicates the status of the circuit breaker (On or Off/tripped).

2. Actuator mechanism - forces the contacts together or apart.

3. Contacts - Allow current when touching and break the current when moved apart.

4. Terminals 5. Bimetallic strip 6. Calibration screw - allows the

manufacturer to precisely adjust the trip current of the device after assembly.

7. Solenoid 8. Arc divider / extinguisher

FUSES AND ITS CLASSIFICATION

• A device that by the fusing of one or more of its specially designed and proportioned components opens the circuit in which it is inserted by breaking the current when this exceed a given value for sufficient time.

• The common materials used for fuse element are copper, tin lead alloy (tin 63% and lead 37%), silver, aluminium etc.

• TYPES OF FUSES: • There are two common types of fuses:• LOW VOLTAGE FUSES• HIGH VOLTAGE FUSES

Page 17: Performance Testing of Hrc Fuse Links

• LOW VOLTAGE FUSE: SEMI CLOSED REWIRABLE FUSES : • Consists of two separate parts made from porcelain called

base and fuse carrier.• These fuses are made up to 500 Amp current but there

breaking capacity is low.

HIGH RUPTURING CAPACITY FUSES :• HRC cartridge fuses are specially designed for extremely rapid

operations.• They are quite reliable and can be selected for proper

discrimination.

Page 18: Performance Testing of Hrc Fuse Links

HIGH VOLTAGE FUSES:

The following two types of high voltage fuses are:

CARTRIDGE TYPE: • It is almost similar to low voltage HRC cartrisge fuse in construction. • The only difference is that the fuse element is wound in the shape

of helix so as to avoid the corona effect

LIQUID TYPE: • It essentially consists of a glass tube filled with carbon tetra

chloride solution and sealed at both ends with brass caps.

• The corona is eliminated by carbon tetra chloride filled in the tube.

HRC FUSES AND FUSE BASES• SALIENT FEATURE:• High breaking capacity 80kA and 120 kA at 500V• Available with ISI and CE marking.• Low watt loss, ensures cool running and longer life.• No duration required for connected equipment.• Low cut off characteristic , reduced electro magnetic stress.• Fault indication is immediate. The red pop up chin comes out

instantly on fusing

• TYPES OF HRCs: • The following types of HRC s are manufactured in INDO

AISAN,MURTHAL PLANT.:• DIN TYPE HRC • BOLTED TYPE HRC• CYLINDRICAL TYPE HRC• J TYPE HRC
