Baptist Church OCTOBER 2017
FROM THE MINISTER
Sometimes when we hear a particular song, or go somewhere that we have not been for a long time, or suddenly bump into someone that we have not seen for a long time, it triggers a flood of memories in our mind – some good and some not so good. In our personal lives we use dates to help us mark, remember and celebrate particular milestones: birthdays and anniversaries. We remember our own birthdays another year past and others celebrate with us just as we celebrate with them when their turn comes around. Anniversaries, particularly wedding anniversaries, play an important part in our remembering and celebrating. Other anniversaries, sometimes sad ones like the loss of a loved one bring back memories of happy times together but are also a reminder of the pain of separation. Particular dates bring to mind particular memories and act as reminders that are fixed and set in a calendar that does not change. In our national life, there are dates remembered and marked by nearly everyone: Remembrance Day – when we come together to remember those who gave their lives in war, Bonfire Night when for some reason that I don’t quite understand we mark the thwarting of the Gun Powder Plot. In Church life, the year is separated by the big festivals of Christmas when we celebrate the coming of Jesus, the Son of God coming into the world, and Easter when we remember the one who gave up His life for our forgiveness. This month as part of our 300th Anniversary Celebrations, we are having a Sunday School Reunion. If at any time you attended the Sunday School at Pentref we would love to see you at the reunion. In fact even if you did not attend the Sunday School you would be more than welcome to come. The reunion will be a time that we can meet up with old friends, remember good times shared together and have some fun as we do some of the old Sunday School Activities together, (there will be a tea to follow the reunion service – and as this is for the Sunday School there will be jelly). If you can, please come and join us at 2:00pm on the 8th October.
Steve
Bible Study
On Tuesday mornings a group of us get together to look at a particular part of the Bible. This is an informal gathering where all are encouraged to take part. We are not a bunch of academics debating the finer points of a text, but a group of people who want to hear what God has got to say to us through His word. In October we will be continuing to look at the gospel of John. If you would like to come along we will be meeting on Tuesday 10
th and 24
th
at 10:30am, in the Baptist Church hall. A few of us go to lunch in Rhayader after the meeting. You would be more than welcome to join us. (2 courses for only £5.00)
The next Coffee Morning is on Wednesday October 4th We will supply the coffee and tea – the cakes and biscuits
and you can come along to supply the good humoured company.
No charge but donations gratefully received in aid of the: Restoration of the Chapel Windows

honeymoon ! In his sermon he spoke about diversions and changes in
directions in life, referring to how the Apostle Paul listened to the voice of
God and made changes to his planned journey through the provinces of
Macedonia and Asia Minor, (a region we now know as Turkey), eventually
leading to Rome.
