Pentecost Sunday
May 31, 2020
Domingo de Pentecostés 31 de Mayo de 2020
From the Pastor’s Desk
It is Pentecost Sunday! How is the Holy Spirit Calling our Young Adults to Volunteer?
I wish all of our parishioners a Blessed Pentecost Sunday. I pray the Holy Spirit,
who you received at your Baptism and whose gifts were strengthened at Confirmation,
enlightens you in a special way this year. It is the Holy Spirit that inspires you to live and
practice your faith. I pray you can listen to the Holy Spirit speak to your heart about how
you can become more involved in the parish and to live your call to be missionary disciple
in your family and community. As I mentioned in last week’s bulletin, we are getting
ready to open our churches for public Mass again. Although we do not know when (I am
writing this on May 28) I suspect it will be sometime on June. The parish also asked for
volunteers to help usher and clean our churches. Approximately 50 or so have called or
emailed the office to volunteer, and we appreciate how you stepped up in this challenging
time. I also understand and support those who are not ready at this time because you
have real health and safety concerns. This week I am asking our young adult parishioners
and those home from college to think about volunteering. As happens so often in parish-
es, most of the volunteers tend to be over 60. Health officials tell us that the Covid-19
Virus hits older adults particularly hard, thus, this week I am asking our young adult
parishioners to think about helping. Pray for guidance. Serving in the church is a joyful
experience, a joy given by the grace of the Holy Spirit. If you feel called to help please call
the parish office at 856-627-2222. God Bless you and family, and please stay safe.
Congratulations to our High School Graduates
Our Parish family congratulates all those graduating from High School this year. We know this has been a particularly difficult year for our graduates. Many of the events
you waited so long for have been canceled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic that hit our world. Your proms and senior trips were cancelled, and even your graduation ceremony
will be much different. Do not be afraid to acknowledge your pain and sorrow and disappointment. It is very real and very understandable. Please know that your family at home, and your parish family, is very proud of you. This is a big step in your life and you
worked hard in your high school years. You were also faced with learning a difficult life lesson at a young age. In life, everything doesn’t always go as we plan. Also, know that God is with you every step of the way, and the Lord will continue to accompany you as you
plan for college and your work years that await you. The Church is here for you also, and I pray that your Catholic Faith continues to guide you in the wonderful life adventures
that await you. Congratulations to the High School Class of 2020!

Stewardship Reflection:
Stewards Holy Spirit
“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 CORINTHIANS 12:7 For Stewards to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, we
must open our hearts and invite Him in! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words and actions every
day! Be grateful for all the gifts God has given you!
Regardless of our individual circumstances, God has
given all of us many blessings. What we do with those
gifts is our gift back to God! By generously sharing
everything we have and everything we are, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered” and our
lives truly reflect God’s light, love and mercy.
The Richness of the Spirit:
Students, and most adults recalling their school
days, are familiar with the phrase “compare and
contrast” that shows up from time to time on tests.
Today we hear two different accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the church. Let’s contrast, then
compare. Luke’s account from Acts is filled with
arresting details: the mighty wind from heaven, the
tongues of flame, the miracle of different languages.
John’s account seems timid: fearful disciples, the wounded Christ, the expelling of breath from his
risen body, not from the sky. Our literal, modern
minds wonder which way it happened; our noisy
culture probably makes us prefer the former. But if
we compare the two, we find that the dazzling
richness of the Spirit fills both accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen Christ, ascended to the
sky in Luke, that appears to his disciples in John
and sends his followers forth to carry on his
mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming the mighty
acts of God.
