Dear Parents/Guardians,
Another term has flown by and we are fast approaching the Easter holiday. The mixed weather hasn’t stopped the
children from working outdoors and the benefits of doing so with the younger children cannot be overstated. All
classes have benefitted from trips to enhance their learning and this will continue next term.
Attendance has been mixed due to the coughs, sniffles and chickenpox but, despite this, we are on course for some
very impressive attendance figures across the valley this year. Thank you so much for your support in this area - it
really makes a difference to your child’s education and also their social wellbeing if they attend regularly. In the long
term, your child will benefit hugely if they have attendance better than our goal of 95%.
Primary Assessment Week: Tuesday May 7th – Tuesday May 14th (inclusive)
It is very important that all children are present during these weeks. Assessment activities will be provided including National Numeracy & Literacy Tests for Y2-Y6 in order to set educational targets and to assess the children’s progress. Please do not book a holiday under any circumstances between these dates as tests cannot be sat outside this time frame. You may have had some practice papers from school already. Reading with your child at home is excellent preparation too.
We hope you have an enjoyable Easter break. Go easy on the chocolate :-)
Mr Rob Appleby (Primary Phase Leader), Miss R Gierat (Lead Learner) and Mr G Groves (Acting Headteacher).
Safeguarding
We have noticed a significant increase to the number of parents parking their cars on the double
yellow lines at both the start and the end of the day. We have spoken with the police who have agreed to undertake numerous spot checks at various times of the day. We hope that you understand our reasons
for doing this- your child's safety is paramount in our school.
We have also been approached by a parent regarding inappropriate ‘WhatsApp’ messages
between pupils. Please can you monitor your child’s usage accordingly.

School News
There have been many trips shared between the
schools this term, from the youngest to the Y6s.
We are very proud of our Wizards teams who com-
peted successfully at Llandarcy Academy of Sport
in their tournaments between other schools across
Port Talbot. We have also had tournaments in net-
ball and football between the schools which will
continue in the good weather (!) after Easter.
There have been visits to each school
from Ysgol Cwm Brombil to pass on infor-
mation to the pupils who have chosen
that as their comprehensive. There are
more visits planned after the Easter
break - please ask the school office for
more details.
