Meaning and etymology of name

• The poet Heisod connects the name Pegasus with the word for ‘spring, well, pege’:’the pegai of Okeanos’ qhere he was born. A proposed etymology of the name is Luwian pihassas, meaning ‘lightning’.

• Pegasus is similar to a horse, but pegasus is a horse with wings.

What it is like

• Pegasus is a beautiful white horse. It has got two big wings and it can fly.

How was born pegasus?

• Pegasus was born from the blood of Medusa’s head when Perseus killed her. His brother Chrysaor was born at the same moment. Poseidon was the father.

• Bellerophon tried to use Pegasus to fly to Mount Olympus, but Zeus was not amused and sent an insect to bite Pegasus. Pegasus then bucked off Bellerophon, who fell to earth and died.
