Awise woman once said, Athing of beauty is not somuch what one sees, but ratherthat of which one dreams. Andrightly so. Dreaming is associatedin our minds with beauty,as exemplied in English byexpressions such as dreamy ordreamboat.
Adream can become some-thing beautiful, because itcan develop into an idea, andthe idea into reality. In this
case, a grand piano that seemsto hover in midair, in a vibrantelegance unmatched anywherein the world, symbolized by agolden Pegasus gurine mountedon its top, representing thewinged stallion of classical Greek
mythology, which down throughthe millenia has been associated
with beauty and the ne arts,as well as being one of theconstellations of the night sky.
This particular Pegasus adornspianos which evoke admira-tion not only because of theirgracefully rounded forms, butalso because of their pure, clearsound, rich in dynamic-modula-tion capabilities and their nepiano-manufacturing craftsman-
ship. Both sound and technology are up to the highest artisticdemands.
Pegasus at rst it was just adaring ight of fantasy onthe part of the eccentric Germandesigner Prof. Luigi Colani
and the German pianomanufacturer Nikolaus W.
Schimmel, who inheriteda pioneer spirit from hisgrandfather and father. It was their vision tofree the grand piano, the most expressiveof traditional acoustic
musical instruments, from itsform, which had hardly changed
in the past 150 years,as well as to impart to
the upright piano a future-oriented design. Sound andform, form and sound were topermeate these new extraordinaryinstruments, and the pianist wasto be an integral part of them.
And every Pegasus grand isan exclusive instrument.Manufactured in a strictly limitedannual number, each instrumentbears the logos of its manufac-
turer Nikolaus W. Schimmel andits designer Prof. Luigi Colani.
Mother Nature played adecisive rle in all this.Because Prof. Colani, whocommutes between Tokyo, LosAngeles, Berlin and Paris, is atwar with all corners and edges. For him, only one form counts the oval. He considers it one ofthe most perfect forms of nature, and it is the archetype of manyof his internationally renownedcreations.
Because nothing is moreawless than an egg. Nothingfeels more comfortable in our
hand than a stone wornsmooth by the ocean tides
to an ovoid shape. Nothingis more sthetic than thesweeping form of a sand
dune shaped by the wind.
This natural beauty and ele-gance is reected in thePegasus grand. A beauty thatlives and breathes, that almostemanates an aura or eroticismwhen one touches the high-glosssurfaces and curves of the instru-
ment. A beauty that seems tobe weightless, incorporating theinvisible vibrations of the per-fectly balanced sound. And thepianist as well. He/she becomesa part of the instrument, and thetwo become one.
In this sense, the Schimmel/Colani grand is more than justa dream of something exclusivelybeautiful. It is beauty that canbe felt, seen and heard. A dreamcome true.

Theres no royal road to suc-cess. Only hard work. Andentrepreneurial spirit alone couldnever have created an instrumentin a quality to match that of thePegasus grand. This top-of-the-
line product, extraordinary insound and form, could only havecome into being because, like allSchimmel pianos, it is a master-piece of art, craftmanship andtechnology resulting from overa century of experience in pianomanufacturing.
C ultivate time-honored piano-manufacturing traditions.Yet dont be afraid to try some-thing completely new and different.Offer your customers productsfeaturing quality workmanshipand a long service life. These arethe three pillars of the companyphilosophy of the Schimmelfamily, now in the third generation, going on four. A philosophy
which has made Schimmel whatit is today Germanys leadingresident family-owned and -operated piano manufacturerand a brand name renowned andhighly respected worldwide.

Be honest now, havent you atsome time or another wanted
to own something beautiful, some-thing that would make othersadmire, or even envy, you? And lets come right out and say it something with a air of luxury
to it? This, incidently, is a com-pletely legitimate desire, one asancient as the concept of beautyembedded in human conscious-ness for thousands of years.A desire which has been aroundfor as long as mankind has been
deriving joy in creating thingswhich are not only practical, butbeautiful as well.
And this was precisely thethought behind the creationof the Pegasus grand. With its
future-oriented form and itssonority, it appeals to our senseof beauty.

The spectrum of music isinnitely broad and richlyfaceted. A human lifetime wouldnot sufce to gain an overallview of its diversity, from ancientto modern, classical to popular,European to exotic sounds. But
lives, is a matter of taste, and, aswe all know, there is no arguingwith tastes.
The Pegasus grand is fasci-nating not only in its soundand form, but in its myriad of
wherever our preferences may lie,the 88 ergonomically curvedkeys of the Pegasus grand unlockthe door to the wonderful worldof sound, to your own joy andthat of others. Because music, like so many other things in our
colors as well. It can be orderedin any color available in a high-grade automobile lacquer, settingvirtually no limit to your personaltaste. A piano for individualists.

This sound is the result ofthe cultivation and furtherdevelopment of a piano-manu-facturing tradition dating backto 1885, when the rst Schimmelpiano saw the light of day in asuburb of Leipzig, a city witha long musical tradition. Threegenerations of the Schimmelfamily, now going on four, havecontinually pursued the goal ofa more and more perfect matchbetween the sound and thekeyboard-and-action assembly.
The Pegasus grand and uprightare labors of love, a perfectsymbiosis of painstaking handcraftsmanship and modern tech-nology. Avant-garde in theirform, each instrument under thesign of the winged stallion is aclassic, heart and soul.
The heart of a piano is its key-board-and-action assembly.
Its sound is its soul. It imparts tothe instrument its unmistakablecharacter. Inside the avant-garde cabinetry of the Pegasus grandand upright are traditional acous-tic pianos, which produce a soundwhich in its natural diversity can-not be successfully imitated byelectronic pianos. Because it hasa soul.
Well-thought-out details for maximumcomfort: At the touch of a ngertip,an electrically driven lift mechanismsilently raises or lowers the top, as ifby magic. The integrated piano stool, which can be extended in width for duet playing, conveys a feeling of completeharmony between the pianist(s) andthe instrument. The music rack, ofa durable transparent acrylic plasticmaterial, can be set in either an uprightor a at position, independently ofwhether the top is open or closed.

From towel racks to cityplanning, from can openersto cockpits, from coffee servicesto futuristic sport cars for
Prof. Luigi Colani, the
impulsive eccentric among theGerman designers of internationalstatus, nothing is too small ortoo large, whether of a syntheticmaterial or steel, that he wouldntbe able to come up with ideas forredesigning it to make its formand function more elegant, morepractical, more eyecatching and most of all more sthetic.
Without all the edges and
corners, of course. Becausefor an aerodynamics expert likeProf. Colani, such things are aninhuman abomination. His worldis an ovoid. Gracefully curvedfor the eye. Sensually rounded forthe hands.
Some of his imaginative designshave remained thought-invoking utopias. But many ofthem were realized in Japan,America and Europe. Amongthem the Pegasus grand andupright. Wherever these instru-ments might be, they are admired but also heatedly discussed by pianists, music lovers andtheir friends. Because no one canremain unaffected by them.
