Reflection My Learning Community
has helped me to succeed academically by helping me set my goals and providing ways to
study and connect with my peers.

My Learning Community has helped me to
prepare for my classes and to enjoy my life at
the University of Cincinnati
The learning community I am in has helped me in a number of different ways. It has helped
introduce to many new people. It has given me time to work on homework with peers when I
didn’t understand it. I have also learned a lot about the other people in the LC. It has been a
very positive experience and I would recommend all freshman to join one because it makes
the transition to college life much easier.
The MECH IV LC has been very beneficial to me when it comes to collaborating in order to get all our assignments done, even from multiple classes at a time.

Being in a Learning Community was
definitely one of the better decisions I made
when coming to UC. It can be an
uncomfortable feeling getting thrown into
college life as a Freshman, but having a group
of other students in all your classes and at the
LC meetings not only helps with keeping up
with schoolwork, but with the social
transition from where you grew up to college.
Jake Fisher Reflection
The LC has helped me get together with other people who are in the exact same situation I am. This is very beneficial because it creates a time for us to work together to maybe understand a course concept, or simply to work on a group lab. It has created time that I can consult with people that are in my same classes, which creates a great knowledge base for the specific school related things that I may need help with. Also, having an experienced mechanical engineering student leading the group allows us to get questions related to registration and staying on the right course answered in a more comfortable and relaxed way compared to seeking out a faculty advisor. Overall, the LC has been a great success in my opinion and will continue to sign up for this one.

Learning Communities have helped me get in
touch with my classmates so that I can get help on homework and study for tests with
people in the same class.
Ethan Kocjan
Reflection Through the LC, I’ve had the opportunity to network with fellow classmates, which has
allowed me to discuss problems and work toward
solutions as part of the group.

Being in a learning community has provided a time built into my schedule to study, which has made managing time significantly easier

Andrew Nottingham My Learning Community has been helpful in a number of ways this quarter. First and foremost, it has helped me get to know people on campus, something I consider to be quite valuable in my first year. Also, it has provided an environment for collaborative learning in which each of the members help each other out with any academically related pursuit. Finally, our peer leader has supplied us with some helpful information about being successful in general, from talking about study skills to giving us information about résumés. Because of how helpful my Learning Community has been, I am certainly glad that I joined one this quarter.

The Learning community has helped me in
different ways. My goal is to have a 3.5 gpa and with the help of my LC friends I can make that
happen.

• Have made new friendships and learned the true value of teamwork.
• Have seen the importance of leadership and variety diversity brings.
The LC has helped me immensely this quarter. It has allowed me to make many friends as well as get help with almost anything covered in our classes.

Reflection The LC has been a great way to get to know fellow Mechanical Engineers, set goals for ourselves and the LC, have fun playing dodge ball, work on homework problems, and even study for tests. I would highly recommend that a first year student would at least try out a Learning community for their first quarter.
The Learning Community was a great kick start to college out of state as it created a network on campus from day one. It was also a great group to work out all the bugs in Mathematica and Excel with.
The learning community has helped me with my transition to college from high school, they have given me different resources that I would not have known otherwise. The learning community has given me class mates that have the same classes as me and if I needed help I know who I can go to.

The LC has helped me meet new people and have some friends that I can ask questions.

Being from Pittsburgh (go Steelers), I came to this University not knowing a single soul. My Learning Community helped me to create new friendships almost instantaneously. It has also helped me become a better student, and has given me a reliable network of fellow students I can turn to if I ever need any help in class.
MECH 2016
Cincinnati has truly become my home. Since I come from Cleveland (GO BROWNS) I don’t get to visit much. I entered into the Mechanical Engineering program because it has been a lifelong dream of mine to be a engineer. I joined a learning community and it have not regretted it. It was truly helped me through the first quarter and I believe it will continue for as long as I am a part of it.
