The transport service in Nottingham city is well develop.

It includes acceptable network of Buses, Tram, Taxi, and Trains.

While the bus and taxi are cover most regions of Nottingham city,

the tram does not covers all the parts of city .The prices of

transport vary. If you take tram ticket, it is with 3 pounds for one-

way. Otherwise, you can take NCT bus ticket for all day with 3.5

pounds only. The service is available 24 hour for Train, Taxi but

not to Buses and Tram.

Ibis hotel is quit and modern hotel in the heart of the historical

Lace Market district of Nottingham. It is located 10 minutes walk

from all major public transportations. The hotel has a good loca-

tion next to shopping centre. The room was very comfortable and

large .Every staff member I encountered was friendly, pleasant, and

extremely helpful.

Social Events

One of the important services provided by the University of

Nottingham is social events. These social events are for School

of Education students only. Every student will be able to book

their place two weeks before to the data of the event on the

School of Education website for Students. Fortunately, some of

the services are free of charge, such as the trip to Nottingham-

shire, Blackpoll Illuminations and Liverpool.

The Student Lodge is the first class

accommodation which is located in Player

Street. This location is considered as a great

location for students because it takes only a

few minutes from the University of Not-

tingham Jubilee Campus. The accommoda-

tion provides standard en-suite and studio

rooms which all have a modern and stylish

design. I would recommend this accommo-

dation because it is cheaper than others.

Sir Harry and lady Djagnoly Library is a quiet fantastic

place, located near the bus stop and opposite Exchange building.

The first impression about the building that is a mix between

modern and old architecture that because of the iron structure and

wood on the outside of it with wooden arch in the main entrance.

This gives a mixture between the past and the present. The build-

ing is located in the centre of lake, which gives it a charming

view and makes it very comfortable study environment.

Jubilee Campus: Facilities & Services

Aspire café is a modern design

café on the ground floor in Ameni-

ties building next to the student ser-

vices reception and next to the stu-

dents‟ classes. It is easy to go to

Prayer Muslim Room which is in

the first floor.

Food is delicious

and varied it has

a wide selection

of delicious food

such as English

cake, pastries

and fresh healthy

sandwiches and

the prices are suitable for students.

In addition, it offers fresh juice and

hot drinks like coffee and tea. The

service was generally excellent. The

Staff were very helpful and availa-

ble every time. Aspire café is an ide-

al cafe for breakfast and lunch.

Areej Alharbi

Terrazzo café is located in

the Exchange building near the

bus stop where all the buses of

the university stop . Thus it

could be easy for students while

they are waiting for the buses to

have some

coffee or oth-

er things from

it. Further-

more , there is

a mini market

beside it

where they

can take a

look at it while they are waiting

for their order or they can buy

something added to their meal .

No far away from the café there

is a book shop which sales some

English learning books and sta-

tionary . Inside the hall of the

Exchange building and near the

café, there are some computers

which makes this location even

more appealing to students as

they can have their meals and

and do some works using com-

puter in the same place.

The Atrium Restaurant is inside the Jubilee Campus

Table Talk is an activity carried

out for an hour each week in the

term at and it is hosted in the Dear-

ing building in University of Not-

tingham . This activity includes a

group of international students and

group leaders with main organizer.

They meet to talk and share opinions

on different topics.

Mahara

Nowadays, with the widespread

use of technology most of stu-

dents‟ problems regarding feed-

back are solved. In the Universi-

ty of Nottingham, they apply

technology in a programme that

is called “ Mahara “. Mahara is a

sophisticated website that has

been programmed by another

university but the rights have

been acquired by the University

of Nottingham. The purpose of

Mahara is to make it easier for

students to send and having their

work evaluated by tutors. Each

and every student will have an

account through which they can

easily send their work and share

it not only with tutors but also

with classmates.

Technology: One of the ways for learning English

Figure 1 shows information about websites

which international students use to practise

listening and note-taking skills for aca-

demic purposes and/or for general listen-

ing skills. You can also practise the listen-

ing skills from movies or Ted talks which

might be useful for pronunciation because

the English spoken in movies is very natu-

ral.

(Figure 2) represents information about web-

sites/applications which International students

use to explore and develop their vocabulary. It

is obvious that from the graph, there are lots

of useful websites that respondents pointed in

the survey. First of all, two famous sources

such as “oxford dictionaries” and “Google

translate” took first places. It is possible that

using different types of dictionaries is one of

the ways for improving and developing

spelling and pronunciation of words as well as

English vocabulary.

By: Akmaral Imangaliyeva

Nowadays there are different online resources which students can use to learn English. They

are useful to improve grammar and vocabulary and to develop academic writing and reading

skills. This research focuses on International students at the University of Nottingham, in the

Centre for English Language Education (CELE). It was found that on average the majority of

respondents preferred to use online resources (80-100%) for learning English rather than tradi-

tional methods.

Grammatical Mistakes: Reasons And Types

In a recent study at CELE UoN, a number of students on the presessional course were inter-

viewed to find out the most common mistakes in writing and what they though the reason of

their mistakes. Because of the importance of accuracy in writing for the students, I chose to

write research about the common mistakes that the E-learners make in writing and the reasons of

making these mistakes.

Based on this study. There is a definite need to

overcome this problem otherwise the students

would write meaningless and vague topics

then lose marks in the assessment. So that it

could be helpful if the students work hard and

practise the English grammars by using useful

websites and text books, . As a result of these

suggestions, the students can achieve great

progress in writing and find it easy to write

accurately in their future studies.

By : Amal Al oqbei

It has been found out that the grammatical

mistakes were the most common mistakes

in student‟s writings which prompted me

to focus on this area and identify more

specifically the types of grammatical mis-

takes that occur in students writing.

As it is shown in figure 2, the majority of

students had problems with the sentence

structure. Closely linked to this was the

problem of using tenses. Furthermore,

23% of the students had mistakes in using

articles; using a with uncountable nouns

(e.g. a money) or omission of the indefi-

nite article with singular countable nouns

(e.g. when I was child. It seems that the

students could not understand some gram-

matical rules correctly because of the dif-

ference between the rules in their mother

language and the rules in English lan-

guage. Furthermore, the kind and the

length of a topic could be a reason of do-

ing mistakes .For example writing a long

assignment or presentation could be more

difficult than writing a short piece as the

long assignment needs more details and

explanations then using more grammars

which could confuse students and make

them do a lot of mistakes.
