September 17th, September 17th, September 17th, 2017,2017,2017, 24th Sunday In 24th Sunday In 24th Sunday In Ordinary Time: Ordinary Time: Ordinary Time: Stewardship is not optional! “None of us lives as his own master and none of us dies as his own master,” says St. Paul. “While we live, we are responsible to the Lord, and when we die, we die as His servants.” - Rom 14:7-9

Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...

FORGIVENESS - Nearly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways when the business they shared went bankrupt. The son blamed the father. They did not speak to each other again. Then the father became seriously ill. The mother called the son and told him he had better come soon. The son walked sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son to him and whispered: "Did you ever think you could do anything that would keep me from loving you?" Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from Sirach tells us. Remember the last things. Stop hating. Live by the commandments. As Saint Paul writes to the Romans, we are to live for the Lord and die for the Lord. Jesus' parable in today's Gospel reminds us of God's compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the same way. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

FOCUS: As God has forgiven our sins, so we must forgive others. Today’s Gospel reminds us that God freely and generously pours out His love and forgiveness upon us through our faith in Jesus and the sacraments of the Church. These gifts are given to us, not only for our salvation, but so we may share them with others, and so peace may be built up more fully in the world.

LITURGY OF THE WORD:

In the first reading, we are reminded that we will be forgiven as we have forgiven others. In the second reading, Saint Paul tells us that we belong to God in both life and death. In the Gospel, Jesus uses a parable to illustrate that our generosity in forgiving those who have wronged us must be lavish if we are to hope for the same consideration from our heavenly Father.

Reflections on Today’s Readings:

Fall Film StudyFall Film StudyFall Film Study

Our Fall Film Study will take place on Thursday October 12th, 19th and 26th in the School Library at 7:30 PM. We will be viewing and discussing the 2016 film A United Kingdom. This film is based on the true story of the black crown prince of Botswana who married a white Englishwoman in the late 1940s. As one might expect, neither the Africans nor the British were happy with this arrangement. It is a powerful story of love and hope in a difficult time and place. We look forward to three evenings of an enjoyable film and interesting discussion. For further information, please contact Mark or Shelley Calde at 310-641-1157

Kids Living Faith: Sunday, September 17th, 2017 24th Sunday In Ordinary Time

I say to you, not even seven times but seventy-seven times. Mat 18:22

Helen is learning to p[lay a song on the piano, but her fingers keep hitting the wrong keys. It takes two weeks of practice before Helen can finally play the whole song through without any mistakes. But what if Helen only had one chance to get it right? Do you think she could do it? Could anyone? Probably not. Jesus knows that we sometimes sin over and over again. But He doesn’t give us only one chance. He wants us to know that we can keep coming back to God. We can keep asking for forgiveness and trying to do better. Of course, He wants us to treat others the same way too.

As you forgive my sins when I am truly sorry, Lord, help me forgive others.

Safety Priorities - There are different safety priorities for children of different ages. The “My High 5” awareness

campaign by Safe Kids Worldwide makes it easy to identify the safety actions that make the most sense for you and your family. Visit www.safekids.org/my-high-5. For tips on creating safety priorities for children and youth from newborn to 18 years old.

High School Sophomore FORGIVE OTHERS There are many kinds of alms the giving of which helps us to obtain pardon for our sins; but none is greater than that by which we forgive from our heart a sin that someone has committed against us. --St. Augustine AUTUMN Besides the autumn poets sing, A few prosaic days A little this side of the snow And that side of the haze. --Emily Dickinson
