The lake can be accessed via I-71, US 30, and state routes 430 and 603. History: Charles Mill Dam was constructed on the Black Fork of the Mohican River in 1935 for the purpose of flood control. The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) owns the lake and surrounding land, and is responsible for managing conservation and recreational activities. The dam is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Fishing: Charles Mill Lake is home to bluegill, bullheads, channel catfish, crappie, flathead catfish, hybrid striped bass (wiper), largemouth bass, saugeye, and white bass. Hunting: Hunting and trapping on MWCD land is regulated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife, which issues a publication detailing Ohio hunting and trapping regulations. To request this publication, please contact the Division of Wildlife or pick one up at the MWCD main office in New Philadelphia. In the interest of safety, hunting on MWCD land is prohibited within 500 feet of "restricted use" areas, buildings, and public roads.
