MS - Lounge. Sam and Anthony arestood in the foreground with Blake satin the background between them.

SAMANTHA:

(Excitedly) Happy Birthday son

ANTHONY:

(With a smile) Thanks mom. (Cheekily) Mom, thank

you, it's perfect, exactly the one I was looking at, you

have better taste than I thought you did

SAMANTHA:

Well I thought it was about time you had a new one,I've noticed that you've not been wearing your old

one since you started sixth form, perhaps it was a bit

dated. Hopefully you won't be too ashamed to wear

this one.

ANTHONY:

No mom, not ashamed, it's a trendier one that's all,

the chain on my old one was wearing a bit. I just

didn't want to lose it. (He looks at his mom's neck,

confused) Isn't it about time you had yours on again?

For as long as I can remember you've said it's been

being repaired or something, where is it?

SAMANTHA:

(Sharply) I told you. I need a new chain. I can't find

LS - Lounge. Samantha is sat on thesofa, with joining her Anthony sat on

the arm next to her. Blake is sat nextto her on her opposite side,Samantha ignores him.

ES - Front of a house. LS - A youngSamantha and her mom are stood onthe doorstep of the house with thedoor open. Zooming in to a MS.

MS zooming into MCU - Doorstep,Ray is seen barging in between thetwo women.

LS - Front of house. Sam's mom isstill stood in the doorway shoutingafter Sam and Ray, who are walkingup the drive.

WS, tracking - Walking down thestreet, Ray is in front and Samanthais awkwardly trailing behind him.

ANTHONY:

(Enquiring) So the table's booked for half seven

tonight then mom, yeah?

(Samantha is staring lifelessly at the TV which is

showing a news report, she begins to zone out)

(Fading out) Mom? Mom..?

SAMANTHA'S MOM:

(Handing a set of rosary beads to Samantha) Don't

forget to give these back to Father Oakley for me

Sam, it was kind of him to lend me them after Imisplaced mine. And apologise on my behalf for me

not attending service this week, I daren't not go and

call round your nan's though, she's too ill to even get

out of bed this morning.

SAMANTHA:

(With a smile) I won't forget mom. Send my love to

Nanny Joan please, tell her I hope she's feeling

better soon.

SAMANTHA'S MOM:

(Smiling) I will do sweetheart.

RAY:

(Declarative) Come on ladies, we've got time for idle

chit-chat, you'll be late at this rate. (Glaring at

Samantha) Won't you Samantha?

SAMANTHA:See you later mom, love you.

SAMANTHA'S MOM:

(Calling) Bye Sam, see you later Ray, love you both,

take care.

RAY:

(Snarling) Come on, pick up the pace. We haven't

MS - Wooded Area. Ray grabsSamantha by the wrists and begins to

shove her into a secluded section ofbushes.

POV - Looking up and the trees andRay's face. Begins to fade into thenext scene.

ES - Playground. LS to MS ofSamantha sitting on the swingslooking troubled. There is a motherand child in the playground, with thechild running around singing happily.

got long you know. Left late didn't we? Convenient.

(Sam begins to panic, gasping and fighting back,

she opens her mouth to scream)

RAY:

Don't scream, you know it only makes things worse.

SAMANTHA:

(Panicking) No Ray, you can't do this again. I don't

want you to do this!

(Samantha is still fighting back until finally Ray

throws her to the floor and she lands with a thud and

begins to sob)RAY:

(Nastily) Just shut up. Just keep your mouth shut.

SAMANTHA:

(Soothing/Softly/Whispered/Sadly, through tears)

Hush, little baby, don't say a word.

Papa's gonna buy you a mockingbird

And if that mockingbird won't sing,

Papa's gonna buy you a diamond ring..

CHILD:

(Singing happily) And if that diamond ring turns

brass,

Papa's gonna buy you a looking glass

And if that looking glass gets broke,

And if that billy goat won't pull,

(Sam looks up at the child and begins to sing to

herself again)

SAMANTHA:

(Singing to self) And if that cart and bull turn over,

Papa's gonna buy you a dog named Rover

LS - Lounge. The three are sat asbefore.

MCU

Samantha walks out of shot.

And if that dog named Rover won't bark

Papa's gonna buy you a horse and cart

(Ray walks up from behind her and puts his hand on

her shoulder. Sam is startled)

(Anthony places his hand on his mom's shoulder.

Samantha is starled)

SAMANTHA:

(Singing to self) And if that horse and cart fall down,

You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

(Blake also puts his hand on her shoulder. She does

not feel or acknowledge this, but turns to look at

Anthony)

ANTHONY:

Mom? Have you been listening to a single word I've

been saying? You haven't have you? What time's

the table booked for, half seven?

SAMANTHA:

Erm, yes, half seven. I'm going to go and get ready

now anyway. I need to make myself look decent

don't I? You need to start soon as well Mr, I don't

want you looking all scruffy, you know what your

Nan's like. Make sure your trousers aren't hanging

down low either. Although, it seems to be your friend

Ben who likes to wear his trousers like that.

ANTHONY:

It's the fashion mom!

SAMANTHA:

It's unsightly, that's what it is. Why young men think

people want to see their underwear is beyond me!

LS - Bedroom. Samantha is sitting inthe bedroom, her hair is half up halfdown, sectioned, ready to bestraightened. Her make up is done

and she has changed her clothes.

MS - She takes out a Baby's First Boxfrom under her bed and begins tolook at items, taking them out andplacing them on the bed. She thentakes a smaller, less decorated boxout of the larger one, she does thesame with that box.

MS - A young Sam is sat placing

items into a box. She is holding a setof rosary beads when the cameracuts.

MS - Sam is still sat holding rosarybeads.

MCU

(After taking out the second box, a tear rolls down

her cheek. She is holding a set of rosary beads)

(Sam is crying and wiping away tears)

(Sam places the rosary beads back inside the box,

closes it and picks up the crucifix. She then makes

her way over to the mirror where Blake puts the

crucifix on for her. She stands for a second and then

faints. Blake has disappeared. Anthony speeds over

from the doorway to catch her)

ANTHONY:

Mom, are you okay? Take it easy. Sit down on the

bed.

(He helps her over to the bed. Sam scrambles up the

items and places them all back into the larger box

before Anthony can see them. Anthony stares at his

mom's neck)Oh, you found a chain for it then?

(Anthony picks up the set of rosary beads which

Sam failed to pack away)

Where have these come from? I've not seen these

before, were they nan's or something?

(Samantha looks at him, a tear rolls down her cheek,

and she pulls him close to hug him)
