Armed and Ready

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I Peter 5:8

The Accuser

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.”

Revelation 12:10

The Accuser

You’re so bad, you can’t be forgiven!

“Sure, God might be able to forgive some things,

but not that one that you’ve done…..

You’ve done that so many times, even God has lost patience with you….

God’s promise – Jeremiah 31 31 "The time is coming," declares the LORD,        "when I will make a new covenant        with the house of Israel        and with the house of Judah.

 32 It will not be like the covenant        I made with their forefathers        when I took them by the hand        to lead them out of Egypt,        because they broke my covenant,        though I was a husband to them,"       declares the LORD.

 33 "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel        after that time," declares the LORD.        "I will put my law in their minds        and write it on their hearts.        I will be their God,        and they will be my people.

34 No longer will a man teach his neighbor,

       or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,'        because they will all know me,        from the least of them to the greatest,"        declares the LORD.        "For I will forgive their wickedness        and will remember their sins no more."

 35 This is what the LORD says,        he who appoints the sun        to shine by day,        who decrees the moon and stars        to shine by night,        who stirs up the sea        so that its waves roar—        the LORD Almighty is his name:

God’s promise – Psalm 103Praise the LORD, O my soul;        all my inmost being, praise his holy name.  2 Praise the LORD, O my soul,        and forget not all his benefits-

 3 who forgives all your sins        and heals all your diseases,

 4 who redeems your life from the pit        and crowns you with love and compassion,

 5 who satisfies your desires with good things        so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

 68 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,        slow to anger, abounding in love.

 9 He will not always accuse,        nor will he harbor his anger forever;

 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve        or repay us according to our iniquities.

 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,        so great is his love for those who fear him;

 12 as far as the east is from the west,        so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

 13 As a father has compassion on his children,        so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

 14 for he knows how we are formed,        he remembers that we are dust.

God’s promise – Micah 7Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance?

You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

God’s promise – I John 1The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God’s promise – Hebrews 9,10Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant…

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:

‘This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put

my laws in their hearts and I will write them on their minds.’

Then he adds:

‘Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.’

God’s promise – I John 2Dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins .

“God is able to forget our past. Why can’t we? God throws our sins into the depths of the sea and puts up a sign that

says ‘No Fishing’.” (Michael Green)
