The Porsche Centre AMAG Zug andthe Porsche Club Seetal Luzern or-ganised a joint three-day driver andsafety training event from Septem-ber 2nd to 6th 2007 at the Formula1 racetrack at Magny-Cours. Thisthird training event was a resoun-ding success, not least because ofthe presence of professional racingdriver Marcel Fässler.

The first day was dedicated to vehiclehandling and how to deal with hazar-dous situations. Under the instructionof sports director Heinz Arnold, partici-pants were divided into groups, eachunder the guidance of two instructors. They learnt how to approach and drivethrough bends, mastered evasion ma-noeuvres and practised controlling avehicle nearing its handling limits.

On the second day of training, it wastime to go out onto the track to experi-ence some pure driving pleasure. Un-der guidance, the drivers practiced fol-lowing the ideal line with the braking, turning and apex points.

With customers of the Porsche CentreAMAG Zug being given the opportunityto receive some training on Mondayand on Tuesday morning, the race trackwas open to Club members on Tuesdayafternoon and Wednesday. This gavethe 41 “racers” from the Club the per-fect opportunity to put the Porsche dri-ving dynamics to the test while at thesame time honing their own drivingskills. One of the highlights of the daywas an appearance by professionalracing driver Marcel Fässler, who tookthe opportunity to train for the racingseries with his co-driver.

The Porsche Centre AMAG Zug provi-ded a Porsche mechanic and workshop

vehicle for the duration of the event. The Club would like to thank all its spon-sors, the organisers Martin Kammer-bauer and Heinz Arnold and the volun-teers for their dedication to thissuccessful third driver and safety trai-ning event.

25 years of Porsche Club Deutsch-land – what better reason to spenda couple of thrilling days in the midstof the Porsche family in Stuttgart.

There was a huge farewell parade forthe outgoing President of the PorscheClub Deutschland, Ilse Nädele. The “old-timers” and friends from Italy, Sweden,Luxembourg, France, Scotland andEngland quite naturally made the mostof the opportunity to say an officialgoodbye to “their Ilse”.

The rainy days running up to the paradewould not have gone down well with theCabriolet drivers, so everyone was hop-ing for better weather. And as it turnedout, the Porsche drivers were blessed

with three glorious September dayswith bright blue skies and pleasant tem-peratures.

The special weekend got started onThursday at the Maritim Hotel in thecentre of Stuttgart. Participants re-ceived the event goody bag on arrival. The light-blue T-shirts with the 25th an-niversary logo were a particular hit. Ifyou wore blue you were a participant;those in green belonged to the organi-sational team.

And the organisers had plenty to do! Atthe final count there were more than400 people to serve at dinner thatevening. The close ties between thecompany and the Porsche family wereunderscored by the presence of Hans-

Peter Porsche, who mingled constantlywith the participants throughout the event.Bernhard Maier, Managing Director ofPorsche Deutschland GmbH, gave theopening speech. “I personally think ofthe Porsche Clubs as a large familywhose members are scattered not onlythroughout Germany but across the en-tire globe. This year they have foundtheir way to the Swabian metropolis tocelebrate in the midst of the Porschefamily. Together with you, the PorscheClubs, we will put all our efforts into en-suring that our brand is successful inthe long term.”

By Friday the sky was already brightblue. Over 200 Porsche vehicles wereexhibited in the Concours d’Elégance, held in the courtyard of the baroque

castle built by Duke Eberhard Ludwig(also known as the “Swabian Versailles”).The vehicles proved how beautifullyclassic cars can blend with the glow ofpast centuries. Each participant waswelcomed by Ilse Nädele and Hans-Peter Porsche with a handshake and afew personal words.

The cars were classified into groupsand displayed, freshly cleaned and pol-

ished, to the Ludwigsburg crowd, theparticipants and the strict panel ofjudges. Many of those taking partseized the opportunity to have a freeguided tour around the 300-year-oldbaroque castle.

In the evening, things moved on toGüglingen in Zabergäu. More than 400Porsche friends were invited to this an-cient noble wine cellar. Five buses fer-

ried the guests along the charmingcountry roads through lovingly restoredvillages, to be welcomed in the court ofthe restaurant “Deutscher Hof” with aglass of red or white wine.

It was so mild in the evening that somepeople made themselves at home inthe gardens, preferring to sit under theclear and starry Swabian sky ratherthan the dignified wooden beams. Theambience among the guests was sim-ply wonderful. The buffet was plentifuland the beer and Württemberg wineflowed, and as such people soon tookto the dance floor. As there was a longPorsche tour to come the next day, theofficial part of the evening came to anend at around midnight and the guestswere taken back to the hotel.

On Saturday, everyone met at thePorsche Centre at Stuttgart airport. Inexcited anticipation, the participants re-ceived the goody bag, the log book andthe food provided for the first 145 km.Colleagues and helpers from PorscheDeutschland and the Porsche Centrehad worked hard to plot the sportsroute, tourist route and direct route onwell over 100 maps using colouredmarkers. Hans-Peter Porsche againmingled with “his” customers, accom-panied by Sandra Mayr from the world-wide Porsche Club Coordination Teamand her colleague, Anne Philipp.

The sports route was 250 km long withtwo time trials and 12 questions. Thetourist route was 195 km long with onetime trial, 12 questions and 3 further“guesswork” questions.

Reading a log book is one thing; follow-ing it is another. Although the route wasaccurately set out in the log book, mostteams made it hard for themselves. But

the beautiful weather and the winding, almost empty country roads allowedthem to enjoy “driving in its purestform”. Some gave up looking at thedashboard and the distance being cov-ered!

After all those glorious kilometres onthe road, the participants savoured thefinal hours leading up to the big eveninggala event. It is always amazing howpeople manage to fit a dinner suit, evening dress, make-up bag and vari-ous pairs of shoes into a 356, a classic911, a Boxster or a Cayman. ObviouslyCayenne owners don’t have to worryabout that.

The “Old riding hall” (“Alte Reithalle”) ofthe hotel provided the perfect settingfor the 400-plus participants and in-vited guests. In his speech, Hans-PeterPorsche had some very personal wordsto offer the outgoing President. "Youhave given outstanding service to thecompany and the Porsche brand in yourcapacity as President of Porsche ClubDeutschland and as a colleague of theformer Porsche PR Director, race man-ager and racing driver Huschke vonHanstein, who came up with the ideafor the first Porsche Club, Porsche ClubWestfalen, in 1952. I would like to offeryou my sincere thanks for this, dearIlse, personally and on behalf of thePiëch and Porsche families, as well asthe members of the Managing Boardand Supervisory Board!” Klaus Berning,Sales and Marketing Director atPorsche AG, extended the best wishesof his fellow board members andpraised above all the Club members’dedication and the impressive atten-dance at the Porsche Sports Cup andthe Club motorsport events.

After an exquisite gala dinner, theguests once again took to the dancefloor. Hans-Peter Porsche and IlseNädele “kicked off” the dancing. TheLas Vegas Live Band entertained theyoung and the young-at-heart until theearly hours. The evening was especiallysignificant for the guests from abroadwho saw it as the official farewell to

“their Ilse”. Johnny Lachmann fromSweden gave Ilse a commemorativegift. Others simply seized the hour tothank her for her work.

There was a surprise on Sunday. Theparticipants had Sunday brunch accom-panied by Dixie music in the WeissachCasino, a stylish restaurant beyond

compare, located in the heart of Weis-sach’s development centre. The Casinospoilt the guests with a stunning buffetand they really could not have wishedfor more. It is surely unique in the his-tory of the club that every participanttook home either a winner’s trophy or asouvenir award.

It was a worthy end to a wonderful andunforgettable event. We would like tothank the sponsors Porsche, PorscheDeutschland, Michelin, GeldermannSektkellerei, Maritim Hotels, ConfiserieHeilemann and ADAC for their generoussupport, and the Managing Board ofPorsche Club Deutschland for themonths of preparation. But we mustalso thank the participants, who madethis event so memorable.

The Wild Rose Region of Porsche Club ofAmerica celebrated its 25th anniversarywith a trip to one of the most spectacularcastles of the Rocky Mountains – themagnificent Fairmont Banff Springs Ho-tel in Canada’s Banff National Park.

The number of Club members who tookpart in the event was overwhelming.Porsche vehicles filled the parking lot atthe meeting place, then formed a contin-uous convoy many kilometres long alongthe TransCanada Highway towards BanffNational Park. From there, they com-pletely filled the courtyard at the famousFairmont Banff Springs Hotel to over-flowing – much to the delight of the inter-national hotel guests who naturally en-joyed seeing so many exclusive cars inone place.

Considering that almost 50 cars parkedin the hotel courtyard and the 100 partic-ipants, we can surely be proud of whatthe Wild Rose Region Club has accom-plished this year. For the anniversary runthe Club brought out many memberswho had not been to any Club event re-cently, or in some cases ever. Thefriendly relaxed and open approach ofthe Wild Rose Region made everyonewelcome.

We enjoyed a brief presentation of theClub’s history and its charter (the originalcharter was on display). It goes withoutsaying that the focus of a 25-year an-niversary of the formation of a chapter ofthe Porsche Club of America is a lookback over its own history.

We gave honour to the achievements ofpast Presidents, such as Harlow Rankin,Allan Botting, John Ferrara, Jeff Smith,Marvin Guenter, George Springer, RonDavies, Ken Johnson, Mark Polson, DanaLee-Trottier, Perci Hala and Ken McDon-

ald, each of whom left their mark on theClub, and upon whose hard work theClub has been built. The current Presi-dent, Martin Kratz, read greetings fromthe Porsche Club of America and its Presi-dent.

But what is a birthday party without pres-ents? As an anniversary present, everyparticipant received a special collector’sedition silver jubilee Wild Rose Regioncar badge and a 10-dollar petrol voucherto use at Husky Oil stations.

Then the participants were invited tosavour the culinary delights of the Fair-mont Banff Springs Hotel and the fa-mous Sunday brunch, featuring hun-dreds of choices of exotic and exquisitedishes, desserts, wines and much more.

Afterwards, we met in the courtyard for agroup photo. Kerry Smith, always the ad-venturer, took a spectacular shot fromthe top roof terrace on the seventh floor.

This anniversary event held on Septem-ber 30th, set a number of Wild Rose Re-gion records: It was the most successfulClub event to date. Never before somany cars had taken part in a Wild RoseRegion event and they created thelongest continuous line of Porsche vehi-cles (we covered almost 3 kilometers ofhighway). Gracefully led by some immac-ulate Porsche 356 models, we brought50 years of Porsche history together inone place – from a well-maintained 1957356 Cabriolet right up to today’s moderntechnology. We managed to bring morecars into the Fairmont Banff Springs Ho-tel courtyard than the hotel had ever ex-perienced in its entire history.

Lastly and most importantly we had thebest and strongest Club spirit among ourClub members!

Things look very positive for our Club for2008!

The headline can be taken literally, asPresident Michael Pledl and Vice Presi-dent Günter Mönning had somethingspecial in mind: With a speed yellowscooter, acquired especially for theClub event, Club members and guestsset off in teams of two on a challengingcourse. Although racing drivers wearoveralls, the dress code here was awarm winter jacket, gloves and scarf, cap and flying goggles. A real torture inthe summer heat.

Several of the chicanes built in by thesports management team demandedmaximum concentration and exceptio-nal physical control. Apart from thefather-and-son and junior groups, theteams were mainly mixed, and the fe-male contingent was very strong in-deed. Despite many great perfor-mances, there ultimately were winnersfrom each group!

You could see the happiness on the par-ticipants’ faces as they enjoyed the firstreal day of sunshine at the summer ce-lebration after a long, rainy summer. The romantic setting at Varrel was awe-inspiring and brought the guests outonto the picturesque forecourt of themanor house, where they savouredsparkling wine and fresh raspberries. Abarbecue was laid on for the Club mem-bers in the rustic garden. A summer sa-lad buffet offered a real feast and an ex-cellent selection of desserts and winesrounded off the meal.

The guests waited excitedly for theawards ceremony, as the ManagingBoard had gone to a lot of trouble, especially for the youngsters, with afew special presents from Porsche Se-lection. The organisers were rewardedfor their efforts with bright, happy faces.

The speed yellow scooter found a newhome that very evening with the tworacing-mad boys, Alex and Maxi …
