From WikipediaA phase change material (PCM) is a substance with a high

heat of fusion. It is capable of storing and releasing large amounts of energy while melting and solidifying at a certain temperature. Heat is absorbed when the material changes from solid to liquid and released when the state changes from liquid to solid; thus,

PCMs are classified as latent heat storage (LHS) units.

Phase change occurs at a relatively constant temperature.

• Consumption of PCM products on large scale is expected to reduce energy demand by up to 50% by 2050

• By incorporating PCM in different applications, companies can earn 10-20times more carbon credits compared to other green material

• Most of the available PCM have a long operating life of about 20 to 30 years and need very little maintenance

• PCM have 5 to 6 times more heat storage capacity compared to other materials

PCM for Temperature Controlled PCM for Temperature Controlled PackagingPackaging

The industry uses the gel-pack; ice and dry-ice

Consumers are looking for better methods to:

• control temperature• reduce shipping weight• reduce packaging waste• reduce carbon footprint

Some are using qualified containers which use higher quality insulating material and PCM for effective temperature control

12

Page 13: PCM savENRG, RGEES LLC

13

• Saves Energy

– sharp phase change temperature– negligible super cooling– stores energy during off peak

• Predictable and large energy storage

• PCM quantity can be calculated to optimize shipping weight

– predictable duration of temperature control• Enables temperature control within +/- 5 degree C

• Increase Payload capacity

• Safe for Transportation - Non-Toxic and Non-Combustible

• Economical & Eco-friendly & Recyclable

Performance Specifications:

- Effective reinforcement to restrain the walls against swelling- When frozen and laid flat, the packs do not exceed the uniform thickness by more

than 25% (any deformation is reversible)- Packs withstand one meter drop onto every face, edge and corner when frozen

to -25° C and cooled to +5° C- Unfrozen packs, including cap, can resist a lateral force of 80Kg- Packs are constructed of uncolored translucent material

General Specifications:- Packs do not bond together when stacked and frozen in bulk- Packs and cap made of UV resistant and environmentally friendly material

Environmental Specifications:

- Ambient temperature range during transport, storage and use -30 to 55 degree C

- Ambient humidity range during transport, storage and use 5% to 95% RH
