Changing Lives Primer

The Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) is a carrier of social

programs focused on harnessing the potential of livestock

(carabao, in particular) through genetic transformation

ultimately leading to increased incomes for farming families

and established livestock-based enterprises.

This corporate brochure mirrors the over-all program of the

agency. Specifically, it gives a picture of what the agency has

contributed in the past, current thrusts and future directions.

Moving ahead of the challenges, the PCC continues to strive

in realizing its main goal and enhancing the well-being of the

greater sector of the agricultural community: the small-hold

farmers.

This corporate primer presents brief introduction of the

PCC in a flyer form. It highlights the information on Carabao

Development Program, mandate, services, and the brief history

of the agency.

The primer also includes the contact informations of the

PCC network of centers strategically located nationwide.

from the government agencies and the academe likewise

participated in the crafting of this document. Mandala

Agricultural Development Corporation (MADECOR) acted as the

facilitator, integrating all the concepts, strategies and activities

identified to be necessary in hastening the development of

the ruminant industry. These participatory consultations were

inspired and sustained by the vision and strong support of the

Agriculture Secretary.

Sire Directory

This directory is a listing of superior bulls which are sources of semen for artificial

insemination. It consists of two parts: (1) List of active bulls originally imported from

Bulgaria and island-born bulls that passed the rigorous process of selection based on their

dam’s milk production performance. These bulls passed the strictest criteria in semen

quality evaluation to give assurance that all frozen semen coming out of the laboratory is

only of the highest quality; and (2) A list of young bulls that are currently in training to

become semen donors. The bulls are managed at the PCC facilities in Digdig, Carranglan,

and UP Los Baños.

Businessing the Carabao

This book, written by Dr. Anselmo Roque, is a compilation

of the successes of numerous rural farming families whose

lives improved because of their “businessized” carabaos. It

is a presentation of how a number of people have become

successful entrepreneurs with the hope that others can see the

light and follow it for their own sake, or for the benefit of thier

families, and communities.

Released during the PCC’s 18th founding anniversary, the

book is a testament to the achievement of one of the important

goals of the Carabao Development Program-- the development

of carabao-based industries in the country.

Buffalo and Cattle

This coffee table book is a reproduction of the original book

“Cattle and Buffalo” published in 2009 by Mr. Hsieh Chyi-

G>#'-M!!

The author has the extraordinary ability to give life to his

subject and tell thousands of stories through his photography.

The images presented in this book more than relate human

with the buffalo and cattle, two animals that have important

contributions to the lives of millions of Asian rural families in

varying degrees in the past, in present and in future times.

Changing Lives...Beyond the Draft Carabao

Dr. Sosimo Ma. Pablico, one of the country’s most prolific agricultural journalists, went

around the countryside to carefully document the experiences of dairy buffalo farmers to

serve not only as a reference for research institutions, livestock practitioners, policymakers

and other interested groups, but also an inspiration to fellow farmers who count on the

carabao as one of their prized possessions.

The concept of putting together parts of this book came about when the farmers’

cooperatives started to make known their successes in buffalo-based dairy enterprises. They

attributed their achievement mainly to having gained access to dairy-type buffaloes, hard

work, mutual support from family members and their respective cooperatives, and technical

assistance from concerned public and private institutions.
