The feed, consisting of hydrolysate and recycled process water, is unique, complex, and not well-defined. This may present challenges and require PCAPP to be particularly flexible and proactive in the operation of the plant.

the 30-day hydrolysate tanks provide equalization and the ability to have controlled feed to the BTS. BRS and BTS vendors will provide startup and operational assistance.

Starting the Immobilized Cell Bioreactor (ICB) units sequentially instead of simultaneously is strongly urged.

Start-up will be sequentially.

The build-up of solids could be a major problem. Solids accumulations in the ICB units will be minimized by aeration. The yield values from the BRS and BTS vendors indicate that the solids can be handled.

Continuous and extensive process monitoring throughout the BTA-WRS-BRS is required to prevent system failure. A comprehensive corrosion monitoring program is also necessary

The Sampling and Analysis Plan to be implemented during Pilot Plant Testing addresses issues of monitoring needs. Corrosion monitoring measures to be implemented during operations are being evaluated.

Colorado State University-Pueblo student Michael Martino (front), gets first-hand experience with the Laboratory staff, including working with Lab Operations Manager Brian Ramdwar (right).

Martino, who is part of the university’s Honors & President’s Leadership Program, has to complete 30 hours of shadowing a leader in his field. Martino is a biology & chemistry major.

Hazard School Board

Confined Space Entry was the Hazard School Board’s safety topic this month. PCAPP employees went through a simulator to understand safety risks from confined spaces both at home and at work.
