At the end of this activity, students should be able to:
1. Conceptualize a definition for anxiety and anxiety disorders.
2. Describe the differences between anxiety and fear.
3. Differentiate normal anxiety responses from those suggestive of an anxiety disorder.
4. Identify specific types of anxiety disorders.
5. Discuss the epidemiology, etiology, and symptomatology, of selected anxiety disorders.
6. Discuss the axis I diagnosis in the context of the DSM-IV-TR criteria for this disorder and be able to state subtypes and specifiers with justification.
7. Describe the possible consequences of this disorder.
8. Utilize the nursing process in developing a plan of care for persons with anxiety disorders.
9. Describe an appropriate treatment strategy for this patient using the bio-psychosocial approach.
10. Identify the services in the community that are available to facilitate the management of persons with anxiety disorders.
