APRIL POPE’S UNIVERSAL INTENTION
Doctors and their Collaborators in War Zones. For doctors
and their humanitarian collaborators in war zones, who
risk their lives to save the lives of others.
MAY POPE’S UNIVERSAL INTENTION
The Church in Africa, a Seed of Unity. That the Church in
Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be
the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope
for this continent.
FAMILY FAITH MOMENTS
Today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday. The message
of The Divine Mercy is that God loves us – all of us, and
He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than
our sins. When we call upon Him with trust, we receive His
mercy and let it flow through us to others. This message
and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on
the writings of St. Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated
Polish nun who wrote a diary recording the revelations
she received about God’s mercy. Pope John Paul II lived
and taught the message of Divine Mercy, describing it as
the answer to the world’s problems. When he canonized
Sister Faustina, he also established Divine Mercy Sunday
on the Second Sunday of the Easter Season and
declared, “This is the happiest day of my life.”
Celebrating the Church year with your family. Discuss the
ABC’s of the Divine Mercy message as a family. A – ask
for God’s Mercy. Approach Him in prayer repenting our
sins and asking for His mercy upon us and the whole
world. B – be merciful. God wants us to extend love and
forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C – completely
trust in Jesus. The more we trust in Jesus, the more graces
we will receive.
EVERYDAY HOPE CIRCLE
The Everyday Hope Circle (previously called the
Interracial Dialogue Circle) will be meeting in the West
Conference Room on Monday, May 13, at 7:00 pm.
Please join us as we discuss the beauty and inspiration of
God’s creation. For more information, please contact
Bernadette at 235-2447 or email Amy at
CANDY for the MILITARY
You can donate candy bars for the military men and
women at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Snacks are
provided free for the soldiers in the USO Wright Cafe. On
the first full week of each month, a basket will be in the
main foyer of all the Region XII churches for your
donations. Look for the baskets from May 5 to 11. Thank
you for your continued support for our military members!
BLESSING OF HOMES
There is a Catholic Tradition to have homes blessed as a
means of being made more
aware of God’s presence in our
lives and to respond to the
One who loves us. It is the
Church’s hope that having invoked these blessings, the
people know that they, too,
are blessed and are called to
make the world a more holy place by their very
lives. Region XII clergy would like to extend the opportunity to have your home blessed. Please call the Parish Administration Office at 233-1503 to make
arrangements for the blessing.
PRAYER CHAIN
We are called to pray for each
other as a region family. If you
or a loved one is in need of
prayers, please send your
prayer request by calling the
Parish Administration Office at 233-1503 or email [email protected]. The prayer request
will be sent out so that others may know of and
pray for your intention. Your privacy will be
respected.
FAMILY CELEBRATIONS
Calling all REGION XII members... are you
celebrating the birth of a new family member, a
special birthday, a significant anniversary, or a
major milestone… is someone in your family graduating or getting married outside the region? If
you would like a noteworthy family event posted in
the bulletin, please email details and a picture to [email protected].

CATECHISM CORNER
Merciful Marriage
by Josh Miller
It is providential that this catechism
series has come to the Sacrament of
Matrimony on Divine Mercy Sunday.
It has been said that the battleground
for the soul of today’s society is the
family. The family is built on the love,
commitment, and forgiveness of man
and woman towards each other.
In the beginning, man was made for love. Marriage is
the most profound natural expression of love to which
most of our race is called. But, we blew it. We sinned.
As a consequence, the union of man and woman
“has always been threatened by discord, a spirit of
domination, infidelity, jealousy, and conflicts that can
escalate into hatred and separation” (CCC 1606).
This discord first manifested itself with a blaming match
between Adam and Eve after the apple. “Their
relations were distorted by mutual recriminations;
their mutual attraction, the Creator’s own gift, changed
into a relationship of domination and lust; and the
beautiful vocation of man and woman to be fruitful,
multiply, and subdue the earth was burdened by the
pain of childbirth and the toil of work” (CCC 1607).
The catechism names recrimination as the vice which
corrupted marriage. Aggressive (or passive aggressive)
accusations damaged the first marriage. Accusations
continue to damage our marriages today. These
accusations are not always unjustified. Eve shouldn’t
have tempted Adam with the apple. Adam shouldn’t
have let the serpent into the garden in the first place.
Husbands and wives today make real mistakes too.
No one can inflict a deeper wound in you than
the love of your life. If reconciliation is going to be
difficult anywhere, it will be here. Yet, one who
accuses in anger is not seeking truth or justice.
Loveless accusation destroys relationships.
Sometimes, Divine Mercy can become just two nice
words we like to string together. Not so when we apply
them to marriage, including everything from ruining the
laundry to infidelity. Divine Mercy is unlimited.
Unlimited patience. Unlimited understanding.
Unlimited forgiveness. Such infinite virtue is impossible
for mankind, but that is why marriage is a sacrament.
God offers His divine strength, and Grace is never
insufficient. Grace strengthened Christ to endure the
cross. Grace offers us faithful, lasting, fruitful, sacrificial,
and merciful marriages. All we have to do is ask for it.
Josh is a Youth Minister for high school and junior high
students at St. Peter. Contact Josh at 674-0763
or through email at [email protected].
The Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday celebration on April 28, will complete the individual’s private Novena to the Divine Mercy, which began on Good Friday. Attend Mass and receive Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday.

May 1
Blanca Schwendeman and her culinary partner Anna Marie Berger are promising a great Mexican/Lithuanian/Hungarian mish mash in tribute to Cinco de Mayo. Never heard of such a combination? Neither has anyone else, but they promise a presentation that you will not want to miss.
May 15
Matt de Angelo, the executive Chef at Citi Lites, will do his molecular gastronomy presentation, with food fun using foams and gels and centrifuges and other scientific equipment to entertain you with good food and good science. Hope our insurance is current in case he has an industrial accident. If he injures himself prior to that night, Frank Leibold (a son of the parish) will fill in. His left arm is in a sling for two more months, but Frank guarantees he can cook one-handed.
RSVP
Please call Lena at 233-3531 (by the weekend before the class) so that we have enough food and copies of the recipes for everyone. All classes are from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Cost is $5 per person each class, and include taste testing of the delicious food and the recipes.

THE DIVINE MERCY
“Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, ‘Peace
be with you.’” The disciples were paralyzed by fear. After the
Crucifixion, they had locked themselves in a room and were
keeping a low profile. They didn’t want to end up how Jesus
had ended up. But the Lord stepped right into this paranoia and
dispelled it in an instant: “The disciples rejoiced when they
saw the Lord.” Although these first Christians were very
concerned about preserving their lives, the fact is that living
holed up in an attic wasn’t a life of much freedom or joy. Jesus
wanted His followers to have the fullness of life, but this
required trust in Him and His promises. As today’s Gospel puts
it, through the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, “you
may have life in His name.”
You and your family are invited to serve together, at St. Peter Parish, as FAMILY ALTAR SERVERS.
The Altar Server Ministry is a humbling and special ministry, in which you assist the priest at Mass. Serving at the Lord’s Table, individually or together as a family, is a great to way grow and learn your faith.
Training and scheduling will be available. Children must be 5th grade or older. Please call the Religious Education Office at 237-3516 for more details.
