JULIA RINGS THE BELL

Awesome August
One of the definitions of the word “awesome” is
overwhelming. That describes August for the Cobb
Family- great moments of joy mixed with overwhelming
emotions. Julia rang the bell on August 27th
ending her
treatment. PRAISE GOD! However, only a few days ago,
she was having another transfusion as a result. By far,
the highlight of the month was baptizing my girls and
being “overwhelmed” by a standing ovation of more than
3000 people. Brady & Charmaine Johnson (and family)
drove down to be a part of the special day also. While
we celebrated Julia’s last chemo, we met another family
arriving with their daughter to begin their journey.
While we are ending our treatment, we are sad that
another is beginning.

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. Psalm 91:15-16
Jenna & Julia baptized on August 5, 2012 Julia rings the bell at the MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital
on August 27th, 2012!
The Cobb family traveled to Fort Worth, Texas on
August 26th to share our story at the First Baptist Church
Lakeside. The church was having a special service called,
“Storm Sunday,” designed to encourage
individuals/families going through difficult challenges.
The Cobb family was interviewed on stage and asked
some challenging questions about our journey through
various storms in our life. We started our conversation
with the story of how our home/church was destroyed in
Hurricane Andrew. It concluded with Julia’s arrival on
stage to a standing ovation that lasted several minutes.
When the invitation was given, there were many
professions of faith, people joining the church, and
rededications. To God be the glory! What the devil
intended for harm, God has used for HIS glory! AMEN!
Jonathan traveled to San Antonio, Texas to assist in the
funeral of his friend, David Smith (45 yrs. old). David
discovered Jonathan’s inspirational cancer story on the
internet last year and contacted him about his treatment.
David was diagnosed with the same rare cancer
(duodenal cancer) that Jonathan had in 2006. As a result
of their conversation, David opted to be treated at MD
Anderson. Unfortunately, David passed away a few
weeks ago when his cancer metastasized to his liver. He
left behind a beautiful 18 year old daughter and two sons
(16&15). While Jonathan was in Alabama the first part of
the year, David would often come by and visit Jennifer
and Julia at the hospital. Shortly before he passed away,
he called Jonathan to rejoice over Julia’s MRI report! He
told Jonathan that he knew that he only had a few days to
live and that all he wanted was to be assured his kids
would be okay. Please pray for the Smith Family.
What’s been happening in August
When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.

Jonathan & Julia visit with Chris Stoeck, whom we met through
the church we are attending. He’s getting a stem cell transplant.
Julia & family visit Harry Irwin after his brain surgery to
remove a renal metastasis to his brain.
Jennifer and I celebrated our 14th anniversary on
August 6th. It was a “romantic” evening with our 4
kids and a trip to see the newest ICE AGE movie. It
doesn’t get any better than sharing Goobers and a
Coke Icee with your wife. I’m just happy we are all
together. Any ONE of the many tragic events in our
lives could have threatened to pull us apart. However,
our home has always been centered around Christ.
After all, HE is the Solid Rock and He can pull you
through anything, just as long as you can stand the
pull!
Our list of patients to visit, along with their families,
continues to grow. There has been an increasing
number of calls from our local church asking me to
visit someone at MD Anderson. I am thankful for my
family partnering with me in this ministry. My
children are often leading in prayer and finding new
ways to encourage people. Our new “JuCan” ministry
number is up and running (888-99J-UCAN). The kids
are now welcoming calls to pray for pediatric cancer
patients and their siblings also. In addition, little
Jonathan designed a new USA t-shirt (“Red, White,
and Ju”). A portion of the proceeds benefit the MD
Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital and The Julia
Cobb Cancer Fund. A tithe from the proceeds of the
overall sales of the shirts goes back to RBC FIRST!

Thank you for continuing to pray for Julia. Her next MRI
will be in late October. If (WHEN) things go well with her
scans, she will be scheduled to have her port removed. Please
don’t let up in your prayers for her daily.
My mother’s tumor is “stable.” She has resumed
chemotherapy and will have an MRI later in September.
There’s still swelling around the brain and the side effects of
steroids and other meds are quite impressive. Pray that her
appetite will increase and that she can gain some additional
weight. My parents will celebrate their 50th
anniversary on
September 1st. We’re still searching for a school for the kids,
so please keep that on your list as well. Pray with us that God
will provide the financial resources to enable our continued
treatment at MD Anderson. Not only is cancer tough
physically, it has major emotional and financial implications.
We thank God for answered prayers. We have moved (note
the new address) into a house closer to the church
(Sagemont) we have been attending. I think our Golden
Retriever is much happier as a result. LOL

The JuCan Journey & The Cobb Family Story
“3 generations of cancer & 3 generations of what GOD CAN DO”
The Cobb family has spent much time in prayer regarding our ministry. Our #1 desire is
to see people brought closer to Christ. It is our prayer that God will use our family in an
even greater way to share His message of HOPE & encouragement! Pray that God will open
doors in churches, schools, and other organizations. Please share our newsletter and/or
contact information with your friends or other ministries who might be interested.
