TRANSCRIPT
This year, we are focusing on reaching
the world by planting more churches in
America. For a long time, America has
been the strongest sending force for
missionaries, but over the last few
decades the United States has
become one the world’s largest mission
fields. Every year, 4,000 churches close
their doors, and 85% of existing
churches are declining in attendance.
98% of Christians admit to not sharing Christ during the
year. Despite these negative statistics about churches as
a whole, consider what God is doing through church
planting. Newly-planted churches (typically less than
ten-years-old) are proportionately bringing more people
to Christ than the largest churches in America. Also, as
we consider the future of world-wide missions, we need
more churches to be able to support the growing
demand for missionaries at home and abroad. That’s why
we’re having our missions conference, “Reach the Word.
Plant a Church.” We must get involved in helping church
planters and starting churches in our “Jerusalem” (our
surrounding communities). Let the Lord’s love for people
and the souls of the lost appeal to you, so that you might
be moved to get involved in Faith Promise Missions
Giving. Together, we can do this!
In Christ,
Pastor Dennis M. Schaffer
PASTOR DENNIS SCHAFFER

GUEST SPEAKER: DR. CHARLES SHOEMAKER CHURCH PLANTERS: RON & SUSAN TAYLOR
2013 COMMITMENT GOAL: $56,000
All monies given will go to support missionaries, to
provide for special missions projects, to send our
church members on missions trips to build our vision
for missions, and to host our annual missions
conference.
Faith Promise is a way of giving to Global
evangelism. Rather than waiting to respond to
individual appeals as they come along, believers ask the
Lord how much they should give to Global Missions over
the next year. They then commit to that annual total as a
"Faith Promise". This makes missions giving
strategic rather than sporadic. Please promise only what
you believe God wants to give through you. Then trust
God to be faithful in His promise. This is a promise to God,
not a pledge to the church. The amount is
between you and God. No one will notify you or keep
track of your commitment.
Your Faith Promise involvement says that you believe:
(1) Global evangelism is vital to accomplishing the mission
of the church, (2) the Gospel can change lives, (3) giving,
although important, is secondary to faith and praying,
and (4) God will help you pay the amount promised.
Ron and Susan Taylor were married
in 1997 and in the fall of 1998 moved
to Springfield, Missouri, shortly after
surrendering to ministry. At a chapel
service during their freshman year at
Baptist Bible College, God began
working in Ron’s heart about church
planting in America. He expressed
his burden to Susan, and together
they began praying about the
urban communities of the United States. God quickly
began to reveal to them the great need among the
New England states and even more specifically in New
York City. Realizing their lack of experience and need
for mentoring, God used two churches to prepare them
for ministry. The first was High Street Baptist Church
where Ron worked on staff in the Junior Varsity
Department. For two years, Ron and Susan taught and
discipled students as well as worked in the bus barn.
Upon graduation from BBC, God opened the door for
them to move to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and work in their
home church, Westwood Baptist, under the leadership
of Dr. Steve Proctor. For 4 1/2 years Ron was an assistant
pastor over the youth. During their years at Westwood,
God continued to burden their hearts for New York City,
and in October of 2005 God confirmed that call at a
missions conference with Dr. Charles Shoemaker of
Church Planting America. Ron and Susan have been
living in New York City for nearly 6 years, serving as
church planting missionaries with Church Planting
America. They have planted two churches thus far and
their God given vision is to plant 5 churches in all 5
boroughs of the city.
Dr. Charles Shoemaker was born
and reared in the Chicago area,
where he was converted to Christ at
the early age of eight through the
bus and AWANA ministries. At the
age of sixteen, Charles was called
to preach. After completing high
school, he attended and graduated
from the Institute of Biblical Studies
of Liberty University, earning a di-
ploma in Bible. He also has earned a Bachelor’s degree
(B.R.E.) in Pastoral Theology, a
Master’s degree (M.A.) in Biblical Studies, and a Doctor
of Education degree (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern
University. He has received honorary doctorates,
including the D.D. degree from Midwestern Baptist
College, the L.H.D. degree from Liberty University, and
the Litt.D. from Temple Baptist College.
Charles has been in full-time ministry since 1975 having
served as a church planter and senior pastor. In July of
1995, he joined the staff of Trinity Ministries, serving as
Administrative Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church and Presi-
dent/CEO of Trinity Baptist College. He has preached
and taught more than 5,000 times in over 400 churches
across the country. Charles desires to work together with
pastors and churches to plant healthier, dynamic,
growing churches in America and in the world. His
prayer is that Church planting America will help lead the
way towards a great revival of planting Baptist churches
all across our great nation!
He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 39 years
and reside in Jacksonville, Florida. They have two
daughters, Amy and Emily; two sons-in-law, Dennis and
Michael (all in full-time ministry); two grandsons, Charles
and Daniel, and two granddaughters, Michaela and
Sophia. In addition to spending time with his
family, Dr. Shoemaker enjoys reading,
writing, and politics.
WHAT IS FAITH PROMISE?
Between 50 and 75 U.S. churches close
their doors every week. (Barna)
More than 80% of the churches in the U.S.
have plateaued or are declining. (Barna)
In the United States alone, there are over
200 million unchurched people, making the
U.S. the third largest mission field in the
world. (Barna)
Since 1991, the number of adults in the
U.S. who do not attend church has
nearly doubled. (Barna Research)
Seventy-seven percent of
Americans do not have a consistent,
life-giving connection with a local
church. (Dave Olson)
America has more people but
fewer churches per person. There
are 60 percent fewer churches per
capita now than there were in
1920. (Dave Earley)
For every 100 members,
new churches see 70%
more conversions than
churches over 15 years old.
WHY PLANT CHURCHES?
