USOS• Expresa acciones acabadas en un
periodo de tiempo también acabado: “Yesterday we had a wonderful at the
theme park” I went home as soon as we finished
packing.
PAST CONTINUOS
• Afirmativo: He was timing us up on his stop watch.
• Interrogativo: Were you waiting at the bus stop?
• Negativo: They weren´t listening to you.
USOS• Se utiliza para recalcar la duración de
una acción pasada en un periodo de tiempo también acabado:
“Yesterday I was the whole afternoon revising for the final exams”
• Con la partícula “always” para mostrar disgusto por una acción que se repite:
• “He is always taking my things without permission”
• En combinación con un pasado simple para indicar la más larga de dos acciones pasadas.
“I was having a shower when the phone rang”
• En combinación con otro pasado continuo para indicar dos acciones pasadas, simultáneas y de más o menos la misma duración.
“While I was knitting, he was reading the newspaper”
• Future in the past: Indica una acción que “era futura” en el momento al cual hace referencia la oración.
They were coming for lunch but the baby got ill.
I didn´t phone him so he didn´t know that I was having an operation on Monday.
PAST PERFECT• Afirmative:
I had finished my lunch.
• Interrogative: Had they met before?
• Negative: She hadn´t been there before.
USOS• Expresa una acción pasada que tuvo lugar con
anterioridad a otra acción, que aparece en pasado simple, o a un periodo de tiempo pasado.
• When you rang her up, she had left.• At 5.00 I had already filled in all the
information.
