The History of HEB

The company was founded on November 26, 1905 when Florence Butt opened the C.C. Butt Grocery Store in Kerrville, Texas. In 1919 her son Howard Edward Butt took over the store, expanding HEB into four regions like Central Texas he changed the title of the company to the first initials of Howard E. Butt became the name of the store.

Charles, the youngest son of Howard E. Butt, became president of the H.E. Butt Grocery Company in 1971. As of 2010, Charles Butt is chairman and CEO, growing HEB grocery into an enormous grocery reaching to more than 300 stores and over 150 communities across Texas. H.E.B is a privately held supermarket chain based in San Antonio Texas.

HEB/UTSA Tailgate HEB sponsors many UTSA events

and one that is very popular is the UTSA tailgate. This event happens before every UTSA home game and is very exciting. There is food, fun and contests that help support HEB and raise school spirit. The contest is all about how you represent your school and HEB, you must use HEB products to qualify. The more HEB products you use, the higher chance you have of winning. Anybody participating in this contest has the chance to win money, recognition, and bragging rights.

UTSA World Class Faculty

UTSA has invested a lot of money to get high class professors to teach their school programs. UTSA raised five million dollars to get new professors and HEB matched that five million dollars, dollar for dollar. With the help of HEB UTSA had a budget of ten million dollars to hire professors for all colleges at UTSA including the college of business, sciences, engineering and many more. With the help of HEB our school is becoming high class and Elite.

HEB University Center

After HEB donated five million dollars to UTSA we built the HEB University Center in their honor. This building has many rooms such as a ball room, where many events are held, lounge areas, where students can go to relax between classes, office spaces, so that we have more room to provide for professors, a game room, where they have various types of entertainment and meeting rooms, where over 250 organizations meet to discuss business.

HEB Education Awards

HEB is very involved in the community and supports education to the fullest. HEB gives out many awards to the teachers of the public school system. The amount of money awarded depends on how much experience the teacher possesses. The rising star award is for teachers with experience less than 10 years and they can win $5,000 for them and their school. The leadership award is for teachers with 10-20 years experience and can win $10,000. The lifetime achievement award is for teachers with over 20 years experience and they can win $25,000. HEB contributes a lot for education so students can have a better learning experience.
