Editorial -STEPS IN THE RIgHT DIRECTIONHere at Park Li e we are pretty emo. We cant understand why everyonehates us, and generally we like to hang out by ourselves and listen tosad music.

But lately some things have given us reason to put down the razor bladesor a moment and wonder i li e isnt maybe worth giving another shot.

Here they are, in short orm.

First, theres the interest in B g C - which has been awesome. Bigcrowds were reported at Cup games around the Capital and mediacoverage was signifcant. Shows that people care!

Second, theres the two new artifcial tur s about to open at WakefeldPark, the rumour o two going into Lower Hutt, and one going intoPorirua. A ter years o whinging, its nice to see something happening onthat ront!

Third, theres Capital Football, who have been working alongside ParkLi e (who would have thought it!). We have them to thank or our super-up-to-date Twitter stream o results rom the top grades.Follow us: @Park_Li e.

Fourth, is the amount o ootball being played. 18 Capital Football mensleagues this year. Amazing.

Fi th, the new U17 league on a Sunday, which is helping clubs bridge

the gap with schools a ter the disastrous decision (that nobody wanted)to move U16 ootball out o clubs and into schools. Now those kidshave somewhere decent to play, and clubs can stay connected to theiryoungsters through high school.

But still everyone hates us and the world is against us. Girls laugh whenwe walk past. So its back to the bathroom to run the hot water. This timewe have to remember its down the road not across the street.

GEt WEll Soon CappyThe thoughts o all the sta o Park Li e go out to Waterside KarorisDave Capstick. Cappy had his skull cracked by his own team mate twoweekends ago while playing against Island Bay. Cappy needed surgeryand will have a long recovery.

A top man, one o the games gentlemen, its a tribute to his goodhumour that he posted photos o his bandaged head to Facebook withthe comment: ive g s e he .

gET wEll SOON CAPPy, wE All MISS yOu!

GaME oF tHE WEEk -THREE CRACKERSTwo really good Central League games worth seeing this weekend. On Saturday Western Suburbs (2nd) host Wairarapa United (1st) atEndeavour Park. Wests have been a bit o a surprise this year, back on awinning curve a ter a couple o mixed seasons. Wairarapa almost oldedlast summer, but despite losing some talented players have kept the coreo their team together and have made a bright start to the season.

Olympic (5th) host Maycenvale (7th) on Sunday at Newtown Park.Maycenvale have had some good results lately a ter a slow start to theseason, while Olympic will bounce back any day now rom a slow start.Maycenvale have recent signed ormer Phoenix goalkeeper coach JonnyGould to bolster their de ence. Should be a good game.

In Capital Premier the game to go to is probably Miramar vs Olympic atDavid Farrington Park. These two old oes always produce good battlesand with Olympics frst team playing on Sunday they might take theopportunity to drop a ew players or this one. Expect freworks.

GiGGlES FroM around tHE GroundSt m f e f he wee goes to Leighton Arraj, whostormed out o Petone a ter he was put on the bench as hecame back rom injury. He headed across town to LowerHutt, where he was told hed have to start in the reserveteam and work his way up. He didnt like that much, sostormed straight back to Petone where he started their nextgame. A ter being subbed in that game, he heaved his toysout again, and went back to Lower Hutt where he sat ontheir bench against Maycenvale. Brilliant stu .

S me Sm h . Occasional Park Li e contributor GuySmith loves a good argument, and also has a amous love orre eree Mohammed Safq. When trying to organise ambu-lance access or injured Karori duo Liam Dunbar and David

Capstick, Smith and Safq clashed loudly. Safq trying to keepSmith o the pitch, and Smith not particularly interested incomplying. Apparently Smiths loud mouth could be heard

rom inside the clubrooms. This ollows on rom Safq send-ing Smith rom the sideline in a schoolboy game he wascoaching, and Smith clattering Safq in last years end o sea-son game against the Re eree XI. Rumour has it that Smithwas the one who organised or Safqs taxi to be towed romTe Whaea last year. Angry much?

Sh G made his frst appearance or Miramar Rangers

o the bench in their reserve teams game against WesternSuburbs last weekend. Gill, who is also the reserve teamcoach and Team Wellington General Manager, had to gloveup when their regular keeper had to come o injured. Didnthelp Wests though, they lost 4-2 a ter being 2-0 up.

W e s e k took advantage o a loophole in the sus-pension laws by sacrifcing Dave Capstick in order to get sus-pended keeper Nick Tarrant back without missing a game.Tarrant was suspended or the Easter Saturday clash againstIsland Bay, but Karori contrived to have the game abandonedby getting Liam Dunbar to break Cappys head. NZF ruledthat the suspension was served, and Tarrant was ree toplay in the Monday Chatham Cup fxture. The game againstIsland Bay is to be replayed, so he missed nothing. Cappy onthe other hand...

the the F es. Any avid ollower o Wellington club oot-ball will have come across the joy o Jake Theron. Now, ParkLi e enjoys a beer with Jake as much as the next man, buthe does have a habit o explosions. Here is a brie history o Jake the Snake:

2009Plays or Western Suburbs, and works or theattached Ole Academy. Has regular minor tantrums at train-ing. Throws water bottles when he misses the target (o ten),blames all and sundry or his mistakes (many). Famously,a ter coming on as a sub with 20 to go, screams to his teammates boys, Ive been on or 15 minutes and I haventtouched the ball yet, as i that was their ault. Spends mosto his time on the bench. Whinges a lot.

    2010

Starts season at Wests. Not happy about not starting. Leavesand heads across town to Stop Out in the league below a terabout our games. Gets sent o in his frst appearance ornew club. Sets the tone or his time there. Drives everyonenuts with his non-stop chatter. Steve Gulley tells him to pullhis head in at training. Tension rises. Last game o seasonagainst Island Bay he gets subbed, blows up at coach andthrows his shirt down in disgust. Storms o to changingrooms, only to fnd they are locked. Has to walk back to dug-out with tail between legs and etch his shirt back. Leaves atend o season.

2011Starts season at Lower Hutt. Gets dragged against Maycen-vale (two weekends ago). Yells at George Barbarouses. Thenyells at coach Brendan McIntyre. Says F&ck you, you needto see the game di erently you &ck. Assaults Bell Park
