Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I am taking a lot of spiritual and emotional comfort in the words of St. Paul from the second reading for Mass for this weekend:
“We know that all things work for good for those who love God, And are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28) This has been a particularly difficult week for many of us as we continue the onslaught of negativity, lack of charity, discord, and suspicion in our society and in our Church. At the same time, I have experienced so many “traces of grace” of goodness, charity, outreach, moments of compassion and acceptance, and laughter. Please be assured of our prayers for all parents in the midst of decisions regarding schooling for their children; for our elderly and homebound who continued to experi-ence being trapped at home; for our young adults with their anxieties about higher education and entering the workplace; for our parishioners who experience job loss and economic pain; and for the sick and their caregivers who call upon the Lord day and night. Please spend some quiet time this week reflecting on the power of Paul’s bold state-ment of faith. May the truth found in this verse bring some focus and peace. God is with all of us, for we are God’s holy people, chosen and beloved. Your brother in Christ, Msgr. John
