Place unused eye glasses (including Sun glasses) and hearing aids in the recycle box provided by World Cataract Foundation. To Date: 2,997 pair of eye glasses and 22 hearing aids have been recycled by Nativity parish.

Our St. Vincent de Paul chapter is an active and viable part of the Bartlett/Raleigh community. Because the need for assistance is great, you can now donate to this worthwhile organization at anytime throughout the year by going to the
webpage and donating through our Online Giving option and selecting the St. Vincent de Paul button. If you so choose, you can help offset the processing fees by selecting that option as well. Thank you for your continued and generous support of Nativity's St. Vincent de Paul chapter.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Memphis serves a meal every day of the year at our Food Mission at the Ozanam Center at 1306 Monroe Ave. Volun-teer Teams serve between 125-225 guests each day. Many guests are homeless, hungry, and in need a shared smile and gentle spirit. We are seeking volunteers to help serve our guests on weekday mornings. The time commitment is 8:30-11:15 am. If you are interested, please contact our Operations Coordinator, Becky VanDeren. Her email address is [email protected]. Or just show up at 8 am at Nativity on our serving day and carpool to the kitchen. On 6 Sept, 9 volunteers from Nativity fed 149 . The next Soup kitchen is 9/06. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd ages 3 yrs to 12 yrs, and Confirmation 1 and 2 begins August 14. Parents are required to dedicate 5 hours of service per year. This can be in the class-room, helping with retreats or helping with the Christmas play etc.. Registration will be on a first come first serve basis on the time you choose. Wow-Let Me Count the Ways
Gift of Life (www.giftoflifemidsouth.org) is a Rotary based project that provides life-saving heart surgery to children who suffer from congenital heart defects. These children come to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital from third world countries that lack the facilities and expertise to perform this life saving surgery. Catholic Charities of West Tennessee is collaborating with Gift of Life to recruit people who would be willing to take a meal to the FedEx house at LeBonheur for one or two persons, a few times each year. Volunteers will be notified via e-mail when a child arrives in country and directed to sign up at www.TakeThemAMeal.com if they are available. People in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette dioceses have been badly hurt by flood waters in recent weeks. Many parishes, dioceses and Catholic agen-cies are responding and will continue to respond to the dire needs of flood victims, many of whom have lost everything. Blue Streak Scholarship Fund presents the first ever WINGS OF JUBILEE Hot Wing Festival and Cook-off. On Sunday, 10/2, Ave Maria’s Gala Dinner, which recognizes individuals who are making our community a better place to live, will honor Brother Chris Englert, FSC, president of CBHS; Dr. Warren and Kay Johnson, owners of Eyewear Gallery, former family members, and longtime supporters of Ave Maria; & Will Gagne, an Ave Maria board member for over 30 years, posthu-mously. This year’s Gala Dinner will be held at TPC Southwind, 3325 Club Drive at Southwind. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. dinner & a program of fun toasters. Tickets are available for $100/person or $1,000/ table of ten. The next day, on Monday, 10/3, Ave Maria’s 16th Annual Father Leonard Oglesby Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at TPC South-wind. This popular golf scramble, ” Par is Your Partner” format, is held in memory of Father Leonard J. Oglesby, the first resident at Ave Maria Home and an Ave Maria Board Member Emeritus. A box lunch and registration begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $250/player or $1,000 for a golf team and includes green fees, carts, box lunch, tournament contests, door prizes, and a picnic dinner during the awards ceremony. Bereavement Ministry Training – Are you being called to help others who have lost a loved one? Has someone been there for you when you went through the grieving and mourning process? Please consider joining the Bereavement Ministry to help those who are suffering. Training will be held on: Date: Saturday, October 22, 2016, 8:30 AM - 4:45 PM, The training will provide the participants a better understanding of the grieving process and theories on loss and also skills to effectively reach out and to accompany their fellow parishioners through the journey of grief. Part II Facilitator for Bereavement Support Groups: Date: Thursday, March 13, 2014 5:30 -8:30 PM, Catholic Center; This training is intended to those who are planning to form and facilitate self-help support group sharing sessions. Candidates must complete the part I training in order to attend this training. The training will cover communication, listening skill, support group ground rules, handling difficult situations and practice. "On 20 September the Memphis Redbirds are hosting the equivalent of the final World Series game when the PCL AAA Minor league champions will play the AAA International League Champions. The cost is $17. You will receive a reserved box seat, a hot dog, a soda and a Redbird hat. Sign up and payment are due by September 12th. Last row and wheelchair seats will be available. The annual “Grace at the Trace” will be on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Natchez Trace State Park from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for middle school and high school youth. Activities include interaction among small groups in the morning, followed by free time in the afternoon to include softball, basketball, horseshoes, Frisbee, tennis volleyball, football and hiking (bring your own sports equipment). Small group activities will be at Cub Creek Lake at the park. The day will end with an outdoor liturgy at 4:30 p.m. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from.
