MISSION STATEMENT
The Parish of Saint Teresa of Calcutta is a welcoming community of believers; striving to live and give witness to our
faith, to proclaim the Good News of Christ; and motivated by compassion, to use our gifts to actively live as disciples of
Jesus and to serve all people.
WE’RE GLAD YOU ARE HERE
PARISH OF SAINT TERESA OF CALCUTTA Although Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish is unified together with a common cause and goal, we live out our
vision in two different locations throughout the greater Manchester area. We have a Leadership Team that is
ultimately responsible for 2 churches - Saint Bridget Church and Saint Bartholomew Church, and Saint Bridget
School, but each individual location has its own unique identity, rituals, traditions, and roots.
Let us not use bombs and guns
To overcome the world.
Let us use love and compassion.
Peace begins with a smile.
Smile five times a day at
Someone you don’t really want to smile at;
Do it for peace. Mother Teresa

Pro-Life Mass
Annual Archdiocesan Mass of Remembrance, a time for reflection on the lives of our children who have died from any cause. The causes are numerous but the resulting emotions of pain, longing, and sorrow are the same. Perhaps one of the most misunderstood and often over-looked losses is of miscarriage. Too frequently it is seen as less than other deaths of children, but for those who have experienced miscar-riage, it is no less painful. Please join us in praying for children who have died by miscarriage, illness, or any cause, and for their families.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 22 2018
Society of St. Vincent de Paul Assisting our neighbors in need
April 22 Fourth Sunday of Easter
Today, we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday” where we reflect on Jesus’ love and care for us. This month, through your gifts, the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul was able to be “Good Shepherds” to the hearts of our neighbors in need to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness
and dread.
Is there an individual or family you know who needs assistance ? Please tell them to call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we
can be a sign of God’s love to our neighbors in need.
We want to help !
860-670-7016
Leave a message and an SVDP member will return the call.
All calls are handled in complete confidence.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul welcomes " all who wish to live their faith by loving and serving their neighbor."
We are a lay volunteer organization. All donations made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are used directly for the benefit of
our neighbors in need. We are looking for new members! Please come and meet us and learn:
What we do Who we help How we help
All meetings are held at St. Bartholomew’s meeting room: St. Bridget’s SVDP meets at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday of every month.
St. Bartholomew’s SVDP meets at 7:00 PM on the first Thursday of every month.
Please consider joining us at either meeting – or both!
SVDP April Showers - For Babies - are coming !!!
The Vincentians of our Parish will be collecting your wonderful baby item donations the
weekend of April 28th. Items we can use to make up the layettes for distribution:
Diapers, Wipes, Onesies, Sleepers, Shampoo, Diaper Cream, Blankets, Crib Sheets,
Towels, Washcloths, Toys, Clothing, etc.
We’ll be collecting items for distribution to new moms in our community who need some sup-
port for their newborn. Look for the crib or the collection box at the worship area entrances.
If shopping is difficult for you and you wish to donate money, please make your check payable to The Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
Thank you for joining with us to help welcome the newest members of our community.
Qualified Charitable Distributions
For those of you at least 70-1/2 with an IRA, you are eligible to take a Qualified Charitable Distribution or “QCD”. Your financial services agency
can directly send a contribution amount you specify to any qualified charity you support, including Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish. You cannot re-
ceive the money yourself; it must be sent directly from your IRA financial institution. You can contribute as often as you want, monthly or once a
year.
A QCD will cut your federal and state income taxes. It may also lower the tax amount on your social security income. - you will lower your
AGI and pay less federal tax; you will lower your state tax since federal AGI is lower and you may lower the fraction of your Social Security income
that is taxed. For more information, contact your financial advisor.

Living Lent with Rice Bowl
Thank you for your Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. We hope that you were able to spend some prayer and meditation time with the CRS clients pro-
filed in the written materials, and maybe even shared one or more of their simple meals. The Rice Bowl program officially ended with Easter. Please return the filled bowls as soon as possible. There are collection boxes near the entrances of both churches.
Lectio Divina
The practice of Lectio Divina can
be traced back to the 5th century. It
focuses on reading Scripture with
the express intent of hearing God’s
personal message in the words.
Know the background, understand
the rationale, and learn how you can do this. Lectio can be a
powerful tool for deepening our conversa-
tions with God.
Nancy Billias, parishioner (and cantor) and profes-sor at the University of St Joseph in West Hartford, will offer her reflections on Lectio Divina … when, why, and how to engage in this prayer practice. Tuesday, May 8th, at 7pm at St Bart’s
Live the Gospel
Pope Francis tirelessly proclaims a Church full of hope and joy. Recently he did so by releasing his third “exhortation”, entitled Rejoice and Be Glad. In the justice center, there are copies of a few reviews on this letter. If you would like to read a copy, you can find it online at https://zenit.org/articles/gaudate
-et-exsultate-on-the-call-to-holiness-in-todays-world-full-text/ I have ordered copies from USCCB and will sell them at discounted cost of $10. John Ryan, [email protected], or 860-643-2403x104, or tell me after Mass.
Visit a Nursing Home
Our Knights of Columbus have arranged for another visit to our neighbors in a nursing home this Sunday, Apr. 22, from 2:00 - 3:00p.m. at Manchester Manor. Volunteers introduce some games, play music, talk with residents. If interested in participating, contact Felix Gbati, 860-518-2469 or [email protected]

Rebuilding Manchester 2018
St Teresa Parish is looking for volunteers for our parish involvement
with the Rebuilding Manchester Program to be held this year on Satur-
day, April 28th. For many years we have participated in this ministry
in assisting our elderly, handicapped and low income neighbors in
cleaning yards, painting, etc. It only takes a few hours on Saturday. If
you are available, contact Tom Lenehan, 860 648-1412 or email,
[email protected]. You can make a difference!

within ourselves, within our commu-
nities and within our world.
We will be offering the Cultivating Nonviolence, Harvesting Peace
program from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at St Bartholomew’s, beginning
Thursday, May 3, and ending Thursday, June 28.

APRIL 22, 2018 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
HELP ! Birthright Every year on Mothers’ Day we pass out baby
bottles … and then collect them over the next few
weeks … as a fundraiser to support Birthright. As
Catholics opposing abortion, we are happy to do
so because Birthright takes us to the next level … offering a supportive
environment which includes providing effective, viable alternatives to
abortion. If a woman doesn’t have options, support and assistance
during and after her pregnancy, is she really given a choice? Programs
like Birthright offer very supportive pregnancy counseling and provide
viable choices for the parents once the child is born.
Can you help me, please, display and collect the baby bottles at St
Bridget’s or at St Bartholomew’s? Maybe by taking care of one Mass
for those three or four weeks, from May 12th to June 3rd?
Contact John Ryan 860-643-2403x104
Thank you!
Brake the Cycle of Poverty
The annual trip of this parish ministry is fast approaching … Saturday June 23rd for almost a week … cruising the byways of Connecticut, visiting
parishes, shelters, and politicians’ offices spreading awareness of poverty in our state and the Christian message that we are called to do something
about it.
When we visit parishes (from New Haven to Litchfield to Norwich) we talk about poverty … some stories we’ve heard, some data, … from a faith
perspective … with encouragement to action. Before then we will make that presentation here in three weeks. If you haven’t seen it, join us for an
hour.
1) We are looking for folks who would like to join us for one or more of the six days … either riding a bike or driving a support vehicle (or riding
shotgun).
2) We are also looking for another support vehicle … so if you could drive yours with us that would be great.
Either way, please contact Lou Terzo at [email protected] or 860-268-8145 - with any questions you might have.

the 25th anniversary of his ordination. I’ve had
inquiries as to the date and his current address by
parishioners who would like to congratulate him on
this very special occasion. If you’d like to drop him

Inequality
Chuck Collins, a one-percent-er who leads the Center for a Fair Economy, has just written an optimistic little book, Is Inequality in
America Irreversible? I’m planning to have book discussion(s) once the book has been available for a bit.
Here’s a short excerpt from Irreversible? : We are living in a time of extreme and extraordinary inequality. There is now a genre
of research looking at different dimensions of the income and wealth gap. This slim volume will focus on the pathways to revers-
ing these inequalities. The primary focus of this analysis will be on the US economy and its particular systemic inequalities of
income, wealth, power, and opportunity. (Because) while US inequality is part of a global trend, the condition is more acute due to
the nature of hyperindividualistic capitalism and public policy in this country.
Copies of a longer excerpt from the book are available in the justice center.
Faithfully Compassionate: A Mental Health Forum co-sponsored by St. Maurice Church *free admission*light refreshments*
Have you wondered where to seek help in a mental health emergency? How to respond if someone you love is having
a hard time? What community supports are available to you and your family?

meditation upon the resurrection of Jesus and his appearances after the
Resurrection.

side. We will gather in the church and process across the street. Other-
wise we will pray them in the church.
Reading for a Higher Purpose
The Divine Dance: The Trinity and Your Transformation by Fr. Richard Rohr and Mike Morrell
May 2, May 9, May 16, May 23, May 30, June 6 Each date will have a 2:00 - 3:30p.m. and a 6:30-8:00p.m. session
Meeting Room at Saint Bartholomew
What if changing our perception of God has the po-
tential to change everything? God is not what you think. Visions of an angry, distant,
moral scorekeeper or a supernatural Santa Claus hand-
ing out cosmic lottery tickets to those who attend the
right church or say the right prayer dominate our cul-
ture. For many others, God has become irrelevant or
simply unbelievable.
Drawing from Scripture, theology, and the deepest insights of mystics,
philosophers, and sages throughout history, Fr. Rohr presents a com-
pelling alternative to aloof and fairytale versions of God. Before each
session participants will be asked to read 30 pages in preparation.
Please call the Education Office at (860) 643-2403 ext. 105 or email
[email protected]. to register no later than
April 23.
An Invitation to become Catholic …… or to complete
the sacraments you may have missed.
We would like to welcome everyone to the RCIA process. It is a place
to ask questions, to find out who we are, to find out what Catholics
believe, a place to be welcomed. Perhaps you have questions, maybe
you are married to a Catholic or you are a non-Catholic who is raising
your children in the Catholic faith but you feel left out of a very im-
portant part of the lives of those you love. Maybe God is calling you
or someone you know to join our faith. Or maybe you were baptized
but never made your First Communion or Confirmation.
The Parish of Saint Teresa of Calcutta offers a process called the Rite
of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) to help people understand the
teachings and practices of the Catholic faith. If you are interested in
this process which is beginning in June, or have any questions before-
hand, please contact Kathy Sinnamon at 860 643-2403 ext. 117 or

Home”

St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield
Our Opening Keynote Speaker will be Joan Rosenhauer of Catholic Relief Services in Baltimore. Joan's talk will be: "Let Justice
Flow at Home: Rooting Catholic Social
Teaching in the Family" Family is a central social institution that must be supported and strengthened. Joan will share her expertise and experience on how Catholic Relief Ser-vices is supporting this tenant of Catholic Social Teaching throughout the world. We must help our families remember this rich
body of Catholic Social Teaching which calls us to respond to the Gospel and go to the peripheries
70th Anniversary as Sister of St Joseph
Sr. Joan O’Connor, was a parishioner here many years ago, even resided in the old parish house for a few years. She is celebrating her 70th anniversary as a Sis-ter of St Joseph … by receiving cards from well-wishers who have known her through those many years of educating people in our Catholic faith. Sr. Joan has served as an elementary school teacher, as a high school teacher at
South Catholic in Hartford, as vice-principal, as principal of a public high school, then principal of St Paul’s HS in Bristol for 10 years, capped off as Superintendent of Catholic Schools in Norwich diocese. In retirement, she has continued her involvement with people as a greeter of many at Holy Family Retreat Center in Farmington. Her strong faith and her gentle ways, combined with her extraordinary knowledge (PhD in Education), account for so many folks valuing Sr Joan’s friendship and advice over the years. If you have a memory of Sr. Joan, here’s an address you might send a little notecard to her: Sr. Joan O’Connor, CSJ 27 Park Rd West Hartford CT 06119

Pro-Life Thought of the Week
When a law is contrary to
reason, it is called an unjust
law; but in this case
it ceases to be a law and
becomes instead
an act of violence.

Small Christian Community Pizza Supper Sunday, April 29
th at 5:00
St. Bridget School Cafeteria
Our Small Christian Communities (SCC) invite all current and past members, and anyone interested in SCC to a pizza supper.
(A $3.00 Donation to help cover the costs will be appreciated!)
Join us and enjoy some food, conversation and meet other SCC mem-bers! Small Christian Communities are small groups who gather to-gether, read the Sunday Scriptures, share our faith and its connection in our everyday lives. A special donation opportunity will be available to support the Annual Retreat for the Blind. The funding for this event, which serves the blind from around the State, has been reduced and they can use some help to continue in the future. If you have any questions, contact your group facilitator or any member of the SCC Core Team. Hope to see you on April 29th!

Congratulations, Aiden ! Aiden Puffer, an eighth grade student at St. Bridget School recently set a new world record while participating in the Boston Athletic Associa-tions 5K run. He ran a new personal best, finishing at15:47, breaking his own previous world record for 13 year olds. Aiden had also set the world record for 11 and 12 year olds when running in those categories. This race takes place the Saturday before the Boston Marathon, draws large crowds and offered Aiden the opportunity to run alongside some of the world’s best runners.
THANK YOU ! To everyone who helped make our St. Vincent
DePaul bake sale an outstanding success. We were able to raise just over $1,700. We couldn’t have done it without all of our wonderful bakers and everyone who participated. I also want to thank our SVDP members who spent many hours over the weekend to make sure every-thing went smoothly. Dianne McPherson, President, SVDP
