CONFIRMATION

A practice session for our Confirmation Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22nd in the church beginning at 7:30pm. Spon-sors or proxies are required to attend this session. We hope to be finished by 8:30pm. Our Confirmation Mass with the Bishop will be held on Thursday, May 23rd beginning at 7pm. All candidates and their sponsors or proxies must be in the parish hall NO LAT-ER THAN 6pm and prepared to meet with the Bishop before Mass begins. Please check in with your catechists. They will be available in the hall by 6pm. A reception will be held in the parish hall beginning at 5pm for all candidates, their sponsors or proxies, and their families. Letters have been mailed to each candidate’s family with details regarding attire for Mass. FIRST COMMUNION Our First Communion practice for Mass is scheduled for this Friday, May 17th in the church beginning at 7:30pm. All chil-dren and a parent are required to attend. We kindly ask that you please arrive on time so we may be finished by 8:30pm. Our First Communion Mass will be held on Saturday, May 18th beginning at 10:30am. All children must be in the church chapel no later than 10am to give us ample time to line up for the procession. Immediately following the Mass, in the par-ish hall, we will host a reception. All fami-lies are invited. Letters have been mailed to each candi-date’s family with details regarding attire for Mass. Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry members loving-ly incorporate prayers and blessings into each knitted, crocheted, or quilted afghan and shawl made. These items are blessed and given as a tangible reminder for the recipient that they are covered in God’s love. If you or someone you know is in need of the comfort prayer brings, please call the church office at 843.552.2223. Someone from the ministry will contact you. We are always looking for new members. We meet once a month. Our next meeting is Saturday, May 25th at 10:00am in the church conference room.

The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program is coming to Charleston County. The goals of the program are to supple-ment the diets of low-income seniors with fresh, nutritious produce and to support South Carolina's small farmers. Tri-dent Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services will be issuing $25 worth of coupons to low income individuals age 60 and older. These coupons must be used at participating markets from June 2019 through October 15, 2019. The coupons will be issued on a first come first served basis until the sup-ply is exhausted. Applications must be submitted in person. Proof of identity and residence in Charleston County is required in order to receive the free coupons. Applicants must also meet household income eligibility limits. Information regarding the in-come of all household members is required to determine eligibility. “Mis ovejas escuchan mi voz; yo las co-nozco y ellas me siguen…”

En los tres ciclos litúrgicos, el IV domingo de Pascua presenta un pasaje del Evangelio de Juan sobre el buen pastor. Después de habernos conducido, el do-mingo pasado, entre los pescadores, el Evangelio nos conduce entre los pastores. Dos categorías de igual importancia en los evangelios. De una deriva el título de «pescadores de hombres», de otra el de «pastores de almas», dado a los apóstoles. La mayor parte de Judea era un altiplano de suelo áspero y pedregoso, más adecuado al pastoreo que a la agricultura. La hierba era escasa y el rebaño debía trasladarse continuamente, no había cercados y esto requería la constante presencia del pastor entre la grey.

De Jesús buen pastor el pasaje evangélico de este domingo subraya algunas carac-terísticas. La primera se refiere al conocimiento recíproco entre ovejas y pastor : «Mis ovejas escuchan mi voz; yo las conozco y ellas me siguen». En ciertos países de Eu-ropa, las ovejas se crían especialmente por la carne; en Israel se criaban sobre todo por la lana y la leche. Por ello permanecían años y años en compañía del pastor, quien acaba por conocer el carácter de cada una y llamarla con algún afectuoso apo-do. Está claro lo que Jesús quiere decir con estas imágenes. Él conoce a sus discípulos (y, en cuanto Dios, a todos los hombres); les conoce «por su nombre», que para la Biblia quiere decir en su esencia más íntima. Él les ama con un amor personal que llega a cada uno como si fuera el único que existe ante Él. Cristo no sabe contar más que hasta uno: y ese uno es cada uno de nosotros. Otra cosa nos dice del buen pastor el pasaje del Evangelio del día. Él da la vida a las ovejas y por las ovejas y nadie podrá arrebatárselas. Frente al peligro, el mercenario huye y deja a las ovejas a merced del lobo o del malhechor; el verdadero pastor afronta valientemente el peligro para salvar el rebaño. Esto explica por qué la liturgia nos propone el Evangelio del buen pastor en el tiempo pascual: la Pascua ha sido el momento en que Cristo ha demostrado ser el buen pastor que da la vida por sus ove-jas.

ADORACIÓN AL SANTISIMO

Los invitamos semanalmente los jueves entre las 7 y las 8 de la noche para compartir una hora de Adoración con el Señor. El último jueves del mes el tiempo de Adoración se extien-de hasta las 10pm. Los espera-mos.

Los miembros del Ministerio de la oración del chal incorporan con amor las oraciones y las bendiciones en cada uno de los afganos y mantón hechos de punto, ganchillo o acolcha-dos. Estos objetos son bendecidos y dados como un recordatorio tangible para el receptor de que están cubiertos por el amor de Dios. CONFIRMACION

Una sesión de práctica para la Misa de Confirma-ción está programada para el miércoles, 22 de mayo en la iglesia a partir de las 7:30pm. Se requiere que los padrinos o representantes asistan a esta sesión. Esperamos estar terminados a las 8:30pm. Nuestra Misa de Confirmación con el obispo se cele-brará el jueves 23 de mayo a partir de las 7pm. Todos los candidatos y sus padrinos o representantes deben estar en el salón parroquial NO MAS TARDE de las 6pm y prepararados para reunirse con el obispo antes de que comience la Misa. Sus catequistas estarán en el salón para recibirlos. Tengan seguro de dejarles saber que llegaron al salón. PRIMERA COMUNIÓN

Una sesión de práctica para la Misa está programada para este viernes, 17 de mayo en la iglesia a partir de las 7:30pm. Todos los niños y a los menos un padre están obligados a asistir. Esperamos estar terminados a las 8:30pm. Nuestra Misa de primera comunión se llevará a cabo el sá-bado, 18 de mayo a partir de las 10:30am. Todos los niños deben estar en la capilla de la iglesia no más tarde de las 10am para darnos tiempo suficiente para aliñarnos para la procesión. Inmediatamente después de la Misa, en el salón parroquial, acogeremos una recepción. Todas las familias están invita-das. Cartas han sido enviadas a la familia de cada candidato con detalles sobre la vestimenta para la Misa.
