Until an athlete can control his/her own body weight and learn to move efficiently through multiple planes, he/she should not be doing weight training at any age

� You can gain strength without gaining muscle size
� Strength training is not bodybuilding
� Bodybuilding increase muscle bulk for appearance
� Strength Training gets an athlete stronger to reduce injury and perform higher level power and speed
� Becoming faster = Becoming stronger
DRYLAND� Successful training program prepares a swimmer

PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT � Muscle Length
� Limited muscle length- leads to poor positioning of joint, weakness of surrounding muscles and poor movement patterns
� Muscle Strength
� Is relative strength; meaning whether the muscles are capable of performing the specific tasks in the pool
� Muscle Timing
� The ability of muscles to tense and relax at the right time in the right sequence

� Helps bridge the gap between what happens on the deck and what happens in dryland
� Dryland is not a “sneak in” extra conditioning, but instead is a valuable asset to prepare the body for the technique demands it faces in the water

� Coaches will have positive attitudes and respect for each and every swimmer
� The workouts are focused and geared towards the goals to improve and get stronger and faster in the water
� Each workout will compliment the focus for the week in the season plan
� Know that their coaches are here for them and their success and to help them achieve their goals
� Expect the coaches to be tough on them
� Expect to have a teamwork aspect- hold other swimmers accountable for work/behavior
� Expect to have FUN!

• Need to have a parent (with clearances) patrol the lockerroom• No use of sauna• Change and meet parents upstairs
Bronze, Silver and Gold (full-time) use the locker room
